yeah epic freedom right their buddy
NTA but meme aside you can think GNU & Linux working together as an OS template
From that template you make an OS
Debian, Slackware, Arch, etc.. those "Linux distros" are nothing but different OSes sharing similar features and components
it 100% is but we have to pretend its not so you can defend how shitty it is and everything that runs it.
its a backend program that operates your system, it doesn't matter if you can put different moronic shit on top of it
>install arch >install hyprland (+ installed shit it said to on the wiki because I have basic reading comprehension) >shit works just fine like on anything else
What the frick is "the game"? you lost and the only time I personally had to frick to get my controller recognized by a game it was a game that was made to be played with a keyboard
The game isn't that big so I could give it a spin tomorrow. But I'd need to know what you need "xinput plus" for. Your controller won't work otherwise or do you need it for some specific feature? This thread probably won't be up when I try so I'll probably post on the vg thread
The game doesn't recognise half the keys on the Xbox controller unless I resort to my submarine controller.

Got me there, I didn't check for the camera. Right stick click works, but the axis aren't bound. This can be worked around with a steam controller layout easily. So out of the box isn't correct, but it's easily fixed.

Have you tried this?
https://github.com/medusalix/xone
Last time I got memed into Linux around a year ago, I couldn't do shit with it without learning nerd shit, tried to get some games to work on it and the whole os just broke and had to reinstall.
same experience here
installed ubuntu last year
all fonts were blurry
people said to update graphic drivers
i updated graphic drivers and it broke my wifi connection
then nothing short of reinstalling from scratch would fix it
linuxgays are unironically schizophrenic. most of us have no loyalty to microsoft and just want an os that works. linuxgays will spend millions of collective manhours to complain about people using windows rather than simply build an os that doesn't break when you update your drivers
Why do poeple meme on Manjaro so much, I've been using it for about a month and no problems. I kinda like the slower updates tbh senpai
If this distro ever fricks up I'm gonna try out a debian based for my next, bleeding edge is the true meme
Well I'm on nvidia so I'm a bit screwed in that regard. I just recently switched to Linux about 8 months ago and it's been a fun ride. I've seen that the beta nvidia drivers are finally trying to get Wayland working better but I have my doubts.
Back when I tried out openSUSE I used wayland a bit despite having nvidia and it worked for some games but x11 is still the go to for me.
>Well I'm on nvidia so I'm a bit screwed in that regard.
Yeah that's what I'm saying, "bleeding edge" shit on linux shouldn't be "bleeding edge" after 5-10 years of development. Independent programmers can release the best open source android emulator exclusively for wayland but nvidia won't make a control panel for it, that's the real meme. They are greedy bastards.
>bleeding edge is the true meme
Meanwhile, I still remember Debian users in Linux gaming threads being confused about Proton not working for them, because the ancient GPU drivers didn't support Vulkan 1.3.
Every o ce in a while the pacgages become outdated enough to break your system. It happened to me a few gears ago. Just use EndeavourOS. It's basically exactly the same (Arch Easy-Mode) but the packages are all up to date. No reason to switch now if it's still working for you tho.
I want to try out linux one day, seems like it's getting more traction. I focken hate windows i do. I have zero idea where i'd even start on this whole 'linux firefox chromium third party everything' stuff
It's a lot easier than it looks, and gaming is actually really good now. If you start off with an easy distro like Mint then firefox etc is all preinstalled, you just need to get steam pretty much. (and if using nvidia make sure you have the drivers, they don't always come by default, AMD and Intel is fine though)
Like Manjaro I posteed about earlier, you don't even need to touch the terminal, Pamac can do all downloads and updates, even has the easiest AUR helper I've ever used.
well you could use Lutris or something I guess, I've gotten old coom VNs to work before, it just depends on the game I guess. For emulation most work natively with Linux besides Xenia. I haven't really tried running much else besides steam games.
Also adding something as a non-steam game you can run with proton but obviously its reliant on steam. Heavy reliance on steam does seem like a negative especially since it's not free and open source
Lutris with wine ge, verify gog signatures with osslsigncode (debian distributions will have to add -CAfile /dev/null to the command to verify due to a bug). Don't use any shell scripts some moron turd worlder tells you to use.
Flawlessly because they don't come with shitty DRM. For simplest experience use Bottles in flatpak, make a "bottle" which is a container that can run Windows software and there GOG is a single click install, they managed to make it simpler than Windows because you don't even need to visit a website and download an exe nor run it with admin permissions: it gives your games all the permissions they'd need within the container and nothing outside of it. Also runs most Windows games faster than Windows. For Steam use native Steam client instead of Bottles though, Steam has amazing Linux support
>oh yeah dude it's easier than ever! you just gotta do <a whole paragraph of third party shit>
sorry, some of us actually have a life outside computers
>Is Linux bad for gaming?
Depends on the game. Linux can play the vast majority of Steam games and pirated games can work with tools like Bottles and Lutris. It's not perfect though but Wine can surprise you.
>sorry, some of us actually have a life outside computers

Linux Mint Cinnamon edition is basically all the good things about Windows 7 and then a bunch more, without spying without bloatware, without Windows Defender. Easier than Windows 11 for sure, and it has its own App Store (Software Manager) where you will find 90% of the stuff you are looking for, for the rest downloading portable programs from their website is better like PCSX2 or CITRA Nightly or Brave Nightly
Try learning how to read before you make baseless assumptions. Maybe ask a question or two. I was using the first versions of Windows, and most editions thereafter, before most anons here were born. The fact that I can't remember how to use the more recent versions does not mean I do not know anything about Windows at all. I guess you were too busy sucking your boyfriend's dick to actually read the comment you replied to. I'll let you get back to that.

There's no need to do that you mouth-breather.
The majority of users don't want to learn arcane arts to see pictures of their kids and have their computer be secure.
Stop being such a homosexual and take your head out of your ass.
Disregard all the advice to install this or that distro. Even with the simplest distros if you're not willing to spend just a bit of time learning how to do basic shit, then Linux is utterly pointless and will just be a constant headache.
If you really care about privacy, then you should be willing to invest a bit of time learning, but luckily you will learn most of it as you go.
Difference is that on windows you use 1 script to remove the shit you don't want and then everything works. On linux you need 20 scripts to add the things you need and then maybe it'll work like you want it to. Not to mention it's impossible to get a straight answer about what to use on linux for more specialized stuff unless it's somehow very popular or you happen to know about it already. On windows you can just use google to find the answer to most problems without the need to browse 50 differents places that are all going to give you different answers.
>On linux you need 20 scripts to add the things you need
I haven't even used a single script to make kde work for me, everything is point-and-click. PEBKAC.

No matter what distro you install, its the wrong one. Don't bother asking help because you will be made fun of.
It'll take around a year and you'll fit into the Linux community just fine. Just don't tell when you started using Linux, unless its frontloaded with "I hate windows". Especially if you have any kind of problems or need troubleshooting, you'll be considered a troll on the spot.
Good luck. Its good if you wanna go through the learning curve and constant distro changing. It will however change your personality a lot so keep that in mind.
>No matter what distro you install, its the wrong one.
People make the distro choice seem way more important than it actually is. You can do everything on every distro, the only real difference is how old your packages are and which package manager the distro uses. The rest of it is just autism over the default settings and applications the distro comes with.
I installed Mint but told I was supposed to install Proton by almost everyone. When I did that I heard it was wrong too and I was supposed to get Arch. Yeah you could just stick to your choice but good luck getting any help.
>I installed Mint but told I was supposed to install Proton by almost everyone. >but
What does this even mean? Proton isn't a distro. There is no "but". You install Mint, and then you install Steam+Proton on it. >...and then some Arch fanboys said I should use Arch, so I gave up on Linux instead of just ignoring them!
Weird way to get filtered.
Manjaro is better but a little harder.
Mint is a very good starting point, google "FlatPaks", Mint's one and only downside is that the repository is always a little out of date out of a desire for stability.
It's dumb but an easy fix, it just means like if you want the newest Blender you need to install it as a FlatPak.
If you have old laptop sitting in closet somewhere install it on that. If you don't download virtual box. I choose ubuntu because I knew If ran into an issue documentation on that issue was relatively easy to find.
there was a push to remove master/slave in coding for a while. i think the programming community responded with "what, frick no, you know how much fricking work that would be"

Just stopped playing cyberpunk 2077 in my arch
Game is pretty smooth, haven't seen a single issue so far
It's crazy how braindead playing games on linux is nowadays
As a Linux user, I'm warning everyone to stay away from Linux.
It is needlessly complicated. In Windows I can just download the .exe file and double click it and it just works. In Linux when I double click the .exe file it does literally nothing. I've tried it with at least 50 exe files and not a single one did anything.
Install Wine Anon, that will make your exe files run most of the time.
Or download the Linux version of your programs, that works too.
Though I understand it may be a bit more demanding currently than simply "click and run" for certain things, you legitemately can download a large portion of things, install them then run them just fine by double-clicking.
I found out a thing called OpenBSD exists and apparent Sony just uses its own version of it for PlayStation. So why does no one ever talk about OpenBSD for gaming?
Because there's this little part where they have one exact version of hardware to work with and wrote a bunch of extra stuff that's actually important
Linuxgays are commies of software, they expect people to do complicated things for free for the benefit of society
OpenBSD has a cucked license where all of these companies can just steal the code, lock it down, and sell it. Apple also did it. Their modifications are proprietary and if anyone reverse engineers them they will face the possibility of being sued out of house and home.
Therein lies the problem. Since there only exists a handful of engines anymore, everything (new) will work at some point, but that doesn't make it a good game
How is is possible for a human to be on such absurd levels of copium that their entire gameplan is "use my bad OS to emulate one that actually works" and still not see anything wrong with their choices?
Corporate re-branding is a thing, you call it WSL when it's really just a virtual machine it doesn't run on bare metal. Also a typical pilpul move common in the business world.

Same.
Also today I found out I can use bottles on japanese locale to install 7zip and use that to extract crappy zipped up jap games. Usually these zip files extracted on english locale ends up with garbled filenames. 7zip actually works within the bottle to extract files, which surprised me. If I give the damn thing permission to access beyond its container I could actually use it normally just like foobar2k and sumatrapdf.

Some distros have that ability patched into unzip, but I don't think any GUI archive managers support it. On Arch for example you can just use "unzip -O cp932" to extract your japanese zips with no locale frickery.
Anonymous
Yes, but I don't want to touch the terminal, I wanted to see if you can do it via GUI without resorting to terminal. And it worked. I didn't have to toggle my actual locale to JP either, just the bottle itself.
Anonymous
Fair enough. I wrote a script for unzip and associated it with zip files so I can just double click to instantly extract my japanese porn games.

That's the sad part anon, which also applies to myself. Lots of users coming from windows can't do that or have never done that in their life aside from maybe daring to write an AHK scriptlet or using cheat engine to look up memory addresses following a guide.

Doing it that way with the built-in extractor Ark led to garbled characters the first time, which is why I had to resort to 7zip in a JP locale, took all of 2 minutes to do in bottles. Yes it's Goldberg levels of stupidity, but it worked anyway.

>although, I used winrar for that and not the built-in extractor
Doesn't matter. The problem exists because the zip file specification lets you use any character encoding for filenames without actually specifying which encoding you're using, so there's no way for the archive manager to know what the filenames are supposed to be, or that there even is an error in the first place.
The only real solution would be to give the user an option to reload the zip with another encoding of their choice but I don't know of any archive manager that has that.
Anonymous
>The only real solution would be to give the user an option to reload the zip
Or make compressed files have a header you can read what type of encoding it uses and let the archive manager work off that.

Yeah good luck changing the zip file specification and getting everyone on board with your changes.

>Those people aren't programming on Windows 7 or XP or anywhere
Except they are. The XP gays got their hands on the XP source leak and managed to not only extend the kernel but write their own programs to keep up with modern times. These guys adamantly insist on staying where they are and will never ever use linux.
Corporate re-branding is a thing, you call it WSL when it's really just a virtual machine it doesn't run on bare metal. Also a typical pilpul move common in the business world.
WSL1 is actually a compatibility layer like Wine, albeit much more primitive. You're thinking of WSL2.
I've seen the usual ricers use it to run their terminal only music players, fetches, and cmatrix. I haven't seen anyone test a wine-driven AAA videogame on it yet.
it's this, steamos needs wayland or people are going to complain about g-sync not working, fractional scaling not working, tearing, etc
for steamos to deploy wayland on a truly wide scale nvidia needs to fix their broken drivers
Either they fix their drivers or they let out more information about their firmware blobs so people can fix it for themselves. Guess what, Nvidia is still very reluctant to do that. All they have to do is hide the part about CUDA since that isn't really relevant to gaming but noooo.
NVK is looking pretty good already but then people are going to complain about muh DLSS and muh CUDA, there's no way for valve to win here without taking a PR hit or waiting years for nvidia to find a solution
>waiting years for nvidia to find a solution
Novideo isn't even trying, they really don't care about desktop Linux.

Novideo is an AI company now.
Hope that means they frick off.
>intuitive interface >windows
Ask a zoomer who grew up on smartphones to operate windows. That shit isn't intuitive in the slightest, you're just completely brainwashed into thinking it is
Windows: >adding an application to the taskbar >right click + pin to taskbar
Linux: >Create a .launch file in /etc/man/local/org/launch.d >find an appropriate app icon from google images and add its path to the file so it won't just have the generic icon >copy all of these lines exactly from a workingexisting launch file, change the parts that pertain to your new shortcut
>Why can't the Linux people
Because the "Linux people" contributing are from various different corporations with a small minority of hobbyists working off donations (and most of them working for free) throwing their weight in. You think somebody from IBM would be happy to work with something from Google to design something decent? You want decent, you have to pay money.
I don't see the value in having an operating system with less compatibility that is more challenging to learn when I can just click the button and use programs and games without a lot of hassle.
Windows: >adding an application to the taskbar >right click + pin to taskbar
Linux: >Create a .launch file in /etc/man/local/org/launch.d >find an appropriate app icon from google images and add its path to the file so it won't just have the generic icon >copy all of these lines exactly from a workingexisting launch file, change the parts that pertain to your new shortcut
looks like you're adding something that was already in the application launcher. Now try an executable that you had to build from source in some random user folder.
>Now try an executable that you had to build from source in some random user folder.
I haven't build anything from the ground up. I got all my stuff from my distro's repository via terminal, flatpak's hub, and librewolf from source. All those can be added to the taskbar without problems.
What I see that I can't add are random executables and executables straight off bottles, right-clicking sumatrapdf when it's on the taskbar to pin it shows a faded out option. I can see how someone used to being able to add anything on their taskbar, even the recycle bin, would be frustrated by the inability to do so.
So your original post is partially correct, but also wrong.
Make sure your taskbar is in the missionary position before you use the AI. No, you're not allowed to use it vertically because, well, because pic highlight related.
Haha. HaaH. I haven't seen any desktop screenshots that weren't hacks to get it vertical. Here have another one, this is what happens if you don't turn off automatic driver updates. This isn't the first time a driver update fricked something up, happened to AMD and Nvidia updates delivered by M$ as well.
both are superior to the windows user too dumb to jump ship to linux but still acts superior because they don't update windows. Why still run into random compatibility bugs and still not have the control linux offers?
Windows can't even run a fricking timer clock without "notifications" enabled. It can't run a damned realtek audio driver without you conceding your entire life story and every detail about your private endeavors. It's a complete joke and anyone who jumped ship so far has done the right thing.
The only thing I hate about the FOSS movement are the self-important drama queen that inevitably gets attracted to those projects >Those Black folk from RetroArch >Those Black folk from Gnome >Those actual troony lovers from Mpv
better kernel, and no bloat. it's harder to use, but it gives better results. if you're trying to boost performance on a game you can use linux. 99% of games work on it save for really complex modlists that require frameworks that only work on winOS.
nvidia's garbo drivers broke honkai star rail on my system, had to nuke the partition reinstall. thankfully copy pasting the home folder is braindead, but it sucks ass that i have to download my steam games again.
Most games are made for windows but the majority of games on steam work fine on it. If you play games that aren't on the steam store front I wouldn't switch over.
>If you play games that aren't on the steam store front I wouldn't switch over
I'd say only if those games use a launcher like riot games or unreal. Pirated games, doijin games and shit from itch.io work flawlessly.
at this point I'll almost always take arch or fedora+KDE over windows, that flavor of obnoxious bullshit irritates me a lot less than windows'. I'm no Gankerentleman either just a stupid consumer
i don't get it? I can make it or anyone else that wants it can make it run and use on linux. If you want your os to be bespoke to the point it supports homosexualry you could do it, just pay a poo to code it for u.
windows users are lazy pieces of shit who cant be assed learning how to use a computa despite the fact that they sit in front of it for 12+ hours a day.
I'm superior because I can do complex things with easy methods while you're deadly afraid of a CLI and think that typing words into it to actually get things done is hackerman shit
You are not using easy methods for complex things, you never did to begin with.
And sometimes (all the times I tried when I used Linux), the commands never worked at all, they just didn't, I copy pasted the commands right from their respective websites and it never worked.
So yeah, kys Linux troony, stop trying to shill your shitty inoperative system
>I copy pasted the commands right from their respective websites and it never worked
You're too dumb to copy-paste and tell others to kill themselves? Fricking lmao, stop wasting oxygen already.
Linux is great for some specific stuffs, such as getting an old computer back into using shape.
I turned a 2015 Macbook retina that was basically useless with OSX into a machine that can run games on tv pretty well.
>most games use directx >need yo use a wrapper and loose 10-30% performance compared to windows unless you can use vulkan
Frick windows with all the pozzware and telemetry but linux is a pain in the dick too
Frick videogames.
Depends on your hardware, and what experience you're after.
SteamOS on the Steam Deck is definitely the best experience right now.
There are similar OSes with similar levels of user experience for systems with similar hardware to the Deck. Linux distributions are kind of like mods for a video game, everyone has their own preferred setup, but they are all variations on the same theme.
The "go-to" Linux distros are usually Mint or Zorin, because they are incredibly easy to understand for someone coming from Windows and because the only thing they need to start playing Vidya is following this post from Steam:
>install arch >install wine >everything just werks
All the fixes you need have been posted on internet boards previously. On the other hand good luck figuring shit out in windows which gives you no error popup most of the time.
game has linux port >click "play" on Steam
game doesn't have linux port >right click game in library >hit "Properties" >hit "Compatibility" >choose a good version of Proton >exit out >click play on Steam

game doesn't have linux port >click "play" on Steam
game isn't on steam >right click game in library >hit "Properties" >hit "Compatibility" >choose a good version of Proton >exit out >click play on Steam
>try to play ff11 on a pserver >windows double click it works >linux have to join a discord to gain access to a literal manifesto of instructions >first step Doesn't work because wine won't let me use it because im admin which makes no sense. why program even the option to make software not work if you are the admin but linux Black folk are moronic. >go back to windows. it continues to just work
I guess if your a normie and only play normie video games on steam and nothing else. i suppose linux can work with only minimal headaches
give me one reason why that would even be a thing. needing admin privvalge for something. yep makes sense to me
Only works if you aren't admin uhhhhh why?
sorry linux gays can't program and make shitty software for apes to jerk off how much they love the taste of dogshit but its just not for me.

it really is for a personal computer. is this cope? in what situation do you not need to be admin for a home pc? what the frick are you doing that you don't need to be? I thought you Black folk only shill steam and play nothing else so clearly you don't do anything that wild. are you one of those morons that actually fall for ratting so you need moronic baby wheels on to prevent it or like whats up?
Yup this. Everything works with linux until it doesn't and it makes you pull your hair out. On windows it just works. There's only so many hours in the day. I don't want to spend it fighting with OS.
Is KDE still janky and crashes all the time? I remember my experience with it was that it was cool and shiny at first with its sleek, modern appearance, and then the cracks started to appear with freezes and UI bugs, and I ended up just sticking with XFCE.
I see my many years-old bug reports for Krita are still not dealt with, so I'm not holding my breath.
>Linux gaming thread on Ganker >Windows shills immediately come out of the woodwork to screech about how Linux sucks because it doesn't support Adobe Products™ and there are too many distros and it will never be popular and free software is bad actually and here are the conditions that must be met before they use Linux even though no one asked >Linux gaming thread on /vg/ >people just discuss Linux gaming
why is this board obsessed with being mad about everything?
I don't care about OP's image. I'm describing what happens in almost every Linux gaming thread on this board. Continue to cope or whatever this is you're doing
Okay riddle me this: why would I switch to Linux when everything I want runs fine on Windows and I can reasonably expect this will continue. Meanwhile on Linux I have zero guarantee that any software will run properly and troubleshooting is extremely hard compared to Windows? It seems that for years now the main argument besides Linux is that certain distros with complete reliance on Steam give you a Windows like experience and run a handful of games perfectly, or even better than Windows. I find it weird that this essentially boils down to offering an even more limited experience than Windows with an unlimited amount of drawbacks if I try to wander out of the comfort zone. Not to mention the community is incredibly hostile against people with limited knowledge about computers. What is even more confusing is the backbone of the Linux gaming experience is Steam, a private company with private software but the defenders of free software have no issues with this.
For me, this sounds like desperation. The proud Linux community tries to casualise the entry into the ecosystem, hoping this will somehow raise their market share because by now it is obvious people will not learn complicated prompts for everyday use. But ultimately this turns Linux into a worse Windows while the user has even less knowledge about what is happening under the hood. You say the pinky promise of a private company is not enough for you to trust them. Well, I say the pinky promise of a handful of individuals (where no one is really responsible for anything) is even less trustworthy.
But that is the issue. You don't have to and that is why people rather switch to MacOS than to Linux. If Windows dies it won't because of free software. It will because of an even more streamlined and locked down OS.
> Okay riddle me this: why would I switch to Linux
Then don't fricking switch. I'm not going to sell you shit.
But that is the issue. You don't have to and that is why people rather switch to MacOS than to Linux. If Windows dies it won't because of free software. It will because of an even more streamlined and locked down OS.
Yeah because most people are cattle and dumb. I'd rather they stay away from FOSS. We already have dumbed down distros for the mainstream and corporate entities like RH that spread their cancer. No need to make things worse.
Gabe was right when he said Linux was the best thing for gaming. It's just that the PC market is dominated by Windows, and games are made for and made on Windows systems therefore.
in highschool naive me used to shill linux saying everyone can use it. the meme was you need to have a degree in computer science to use it. then i actually got one so i'm not shilling linux to normies now. in fact casuals should be directed to appleshit where they will be safe. never waste your time trying to "save" normie cattle. they're for milking. only thing linux needs is devs. it should cater only to devs.
BTW:
terminal > menus and buttons
config files > settings menus
unix did nothing wrong. seethe all you want babbies. plain text is king.
>system-wide mandatory vsync you can't disable
puke inducing on 60fps monitors. i can feel the mouse lag. thankfully they're adding the ability to disable it to wayland.
Yes, the right-click menu exists. You can also customize your menu or use an alternative of your choice, like pic related.
reminds me of a gui propsal that one youtube dude made, interesting. lmao at the winbabbies freaking out just because it's different. for me terminal will always be king though.
>never waste your time trying to "save" normie cattle. they're for milking
that is some peak semitic mentality
everyone should be saved, by getting their eyes opened with redpills, so that they can start walking the path out of ignorant normalhomosexualry
Linux is still quite a mess, but its development is chugging along, I will stick it out with w10 and hopefully w11 LTSC is out soon cuz I really don't want to use Linux as my main OS...
linux is shit, the anons claiming just install X on linux are just tard baiting the only people who run linux on desktops these days are morons who want to larp as techies but are not or chinse communists because its the official OS of communist china(which is why they shill it)
how is piracy on linux today? can you pitpoint steam's proton to a game and tell it to launch as if it would be the same game from steam? (i.e. with all tweaks set correctly by proton for it, like when you launch it as a purchased game from steam)
how much pita is the process? do you just launch it as a "non-steam game" and it automatically picks up, or you need some extra shenanigans, like lutris and other friends?
Installed linux on an old laptop and honestly i don't see what the fuss is all about, sure it's really lightweight compared to windows but everything is a fricking chore on it.
you gays can shill it all you want but the ease of use and streamlined design of windows will keep it king forever.

Wew, the poojeet seethe is real. Imagine trying to convince someone to use windows past the 10 disaster lmao, pretty much the phone scam calls level of work.
no i used linux before, its a piece of shit. if it just worked you wouldn't need 10000000 support fourms of people b***hing on how to make the thing work. i think lesser of you if you use linux because the only logical reasoning of using shitty software on purpose is too flex which makes you a moron
>you wouldn't need 10000000 support fourms
A wintard talking about support forums as if there aren't hundreds of them for windows. You're right though, there doesn't need to be support forums for windows because the official microsoft solution to every problem is always to reinstall windows. What's that? You don't want to lose your data? Guess you will have to remember to back it up next time before windows crashes, sir.
so stop saying it just works or are you now going to argue that windows is just as complex as linux because in your mind they have the same amount of support fourms ;p
it literally does not. when i tried it almost everything i needed had mountains of instructions. i can use my eyes Black person. genuinely wtf is this meme? its just false and you know it is. is this just troons trying to deny reality, again?

Why is 4shit utterly incapable of making new memes anymore? Everything is just pepe/wojak/based guy/virgin vs chad regurgitated garbage and I'm fricking SICK of it!
I don't care about compatibility because I just dualboot but modern GNOME shits all over Win10 and 11 UI in presentation and usability and the only reason Microsoft changes like one thing every 5 years is because luddites don't want to relearn
Honestly, at this point it's not impossible that it could be about the same between two systems. Use windows and deal with bullshit in old games, use linux and deal with bullshit spread evenly at random between all games of all ages. Linux bullshit has an upside of being verbose in logs, so it's nearly always resolvable, windows bullshit has an upside of system popularity so there are always patches and pointers on what to do to make it run right on the internet.
Windows has HDR and native compatibility though, so between two, for pure gaming I'd obviously choose windows as any other reasonable person. But that being said, I daily linux with windows on the side, and I rarely jump back into windows to play games. I think my primary reason would be racing vidya on a wheel, and I'm pretty sure I could turn off FFB spring if I'd dive deep into it on linux side, just never bothered to dive into it when 1min OS restart resolves the issue
>linux gays jerk off about there pc prowess. >they can't figure out how to clean up windows in like 5 mins

Got me there, I didn't check for the camera. Right stick click works, but the axis aren't bound. This can be worked around with a steam controller layout easily. So out of the box isn't correct, but it's easily fixed.

So you're switching right now? Great to hear that! Tell us how it goes
Last time I got memed into Linux around a year ago, I couldn't do shit with it without learning nerd shit, tried to get some games to work on it and the whole os just broke and had to reinstall.
Linus, is that you?
In This Post: Things That Never Happened.
Brought to you by today’s larping moron.
same experience here
installed ubuntu last year
all fonts were blurry
people said to update graphic drivers
i updated graphic drivers and it broke my wifi connection
then nothing short of reinstalling from scratch would fix it
linuxgays are unironically schizophrenic. most of us have no loyalty to microsoft and just want an os that works. linuxgays will spend millions of collective manhours to complain about people using windows rather than simply build an os that doesn't break when you update your drivers
>us
kys trannoid
>i updated graphic drivers and it broke my wifi connection
PEBKAC
>I'll be sticking with nerd shit until I learn other nerd shit
ok poindexter, just buy an xbox
Okay anon, things have changed since you went to sleep in the fricking 90s.
Why do poeple meme on Manjaro so much, I've been using it for about a month and no problems. I kinda like the slower updates tbh senpai
If this distro ever fricks up I'm gonna try out a debian based for my next, bleeding edge is the true meme
>bleeding edge is the true meme
Nah, x11 is actually complete shit
They are greedy bastards.
>android emulator
It's not even an emulator. It runs stuff natively.
I use manjaro too.
You will run into a bit of problems soon enough, but nothing terrible. Just anoying shit.
>bleeding edge is the true meme
Meanwhile, I still remember Debian users in Linux gaming threads being confused about Proton not working for them, because the ancient GPU drivers didn't support Vulkan 1.3.
The devs don't care about security
they fricked up simple things over the years
just like every other distro
Every o ce in a while the pacgages become outdated enough to break your system. It happened to me a few gears ago. Just use EndeavourOS. It's basically exactly the same (Arch Easy-Mode) but the packages are all up to date. No reason to switch now if it's still working for you tho.
I think you can double click on Linux distros
Sometimes even single click!
I want to try out linux one day, seems like it's getting more traction. I focken hate windows i do. I have zero idea where i'd even start on this whole 'linux firefox chromium third party everything' stuff
the first step to get rid of chrome is to delete Steam.
Like Manjaro I posteed about earlier, you don't even need to touch the terminal, Pamac can do all downloads and updates, even has the easiest AUR helper I've ever used.
yes, it's very good
it works very well
pls redeem
https://www.protondb.com/app/215930
does GOG work though?
well you could use Lutris or something I guess, I've gotten old coom VNs to work before, it just depends on the game I guess. For emulation most work natively with Linux besides Xenia. I haven't really tried running much else besides steam games.
Also adding something as a non-steam game you can run with proton but obviously its reliant on steam. Heavy reliance on steam does seem like a negative especially since it's not free and open source
>oh yeah dude it's easier than ever! you just gotta do <a whole paragraph of third party shit>
sorry, some of us actually have a life outside computers
>Is Linux bad for gaming?
Depends on the game. Linux can play the vast majority of Steam games and pirated games can work with tools like Bottles and Lutris. It's not perfect though but Wine can surprise you.
>sorry, some of us actually have a life outside computers
No anon, you don't.
>pirated games can work with tools like Bottles and Lutris
Why does everyone keep parroting this? My pirated games work just fine when launched through Steam and Proton. The only thing I installed via Lutris was The Sims 1 and 2 because of the installer scripts
starcraft 2 trilogy couldn't launch as a non-steam game
had to resort to bottles
Haven't had any gog games not work for me yet. I just use lutris for them. Even piracy justs installs and runs in lutris fine, or even steam as a non-steam game if you want to use proton without messing around.
Lutris with wine ge, verify gog signatures with osslsigncode (debian distributions will have to add -CAfile /dev/null to the command to verify due to a bug). Don't use any shell scripts some moron turd worlder tells you to use.
your elitism is inversely proportional to your tiny dick, lardbucket
Oh no am I ruining your scam?
what scam?
you are glowing, shill
windows alone is a danger, by itself. Fact.
Now please find one virus in LinuxRuleZ! shells, and let us know, otherwise you shilling for Windows which is exactly what you do with your wife, shilling for black men to spice your relationship up. Cuck.
Any turd worlder dumb enough to run LinuxRuleZ! shell scripts deserves what they get. There doesn't need to be any more to this discussion than that. Good luck.
And what do they get? You seem pretty vague each time... as if you are just sore your precious Transnational Non-Human Entities are losing their precious shekels.
Glow harder corpogay.
I run gog installers in a bottle and games simply work off that. Or you could use innoextract.
For Steam use native Steam client instead of Bottles though, Steam has amazing Linux support
>flawlessly
>proceeds to type a paragraph of all this shit you gotta do for it to run "flawlessly"
two words of that are "all the shit you gotta do" and the rest is about how windows is worse
This. I don't even remember how to use Windows anymore and Linux Mint just works. No idea how people tolerate other OS.
>i dont even know anything about windows at all
>but i dont understand why anyone would want to use it
wow sure answered your own question
Perhaps Linux and Windows users have more in common than most people think.
>I was using the first versions of Windows, and most editions thereafter
so was i. you know the meme "my dad works at nintendo"? yeah.
> I guess you were too busy sucking your boyfriend's dick to actually read the comment you replied to. I'll let you get back to that.
atleast look me in the eyes this time
get a just werks distro like mint or ubuntu
learn the 3 or so package manager commands necessary to update your system and install packages
...
that's it
Mint updates through the GUI, in will let you know in the System Tray and prompt for your sudo password when you click on update.
yeah and it's just a shitty gui frontend for apt. it's better to actually know how to use your package manager at the bare minimum
There's no need to do that you mouth-breather.
The majority of users don't want to learn arcane arts to see pictures of their kids and have their computer be secure.
Stop being such a homosexual and take your head out of your ass.
wait for SteamOS or be a Mintchad in the meantime
Disregard all the advice to install this or that distro. Even with the simplest distros if you're not willing to spend just a bit of time learning how to do basic shit, then Linux is utterly pointless and will just be a constant headache.
If you really care about privacy, then you should be willing to invest a bit of time learning, but luckily you will learn most of it as you go.
install gentoo
linux is easier to use than windows
the windows debloating is a fricking mission
with linux you don't even think about it
imagine having to pay to use your own computer
>the windows debloating is a fricking mission
Not really. There are programs and scripts that do most of the work.
>programs and scripts that do most of the work.
Written by pajeets, in powershell, which no normie can read. Feel free to prove me wrong
Why? Do you read the source code of every single thing you add to linux? No, you just click the thing and let it do its work.
The fact someone wrote a script in a terminal to do all that makes it no different from linux. Pot, meet kettle, 'cause you're all Black folk.
Sounds very much like skill issues to me
>On linux you need 20 scripts to add the things you need
I haven't even used a single script to make kde work for me, everything is point-and-click. PEBKAC.
I'm pretty sure that, to him, downloading something from Github via curl or something the like counts as "script"
I wouldn't bother getting anything off github, because chances are it's already in my discovery store and in flathub, like gpu screen recorder.
>You can do everything on every distro,
>the only real difference is how old your packages are
Those two are mutually exclusive to each other
I installed Mint but told I was supposed to install Proton by almost everyone.
You realize he’s lying and have downloaded a Linux ISO, let alone ever installed one.
It’s a bait post.

That's it, you're not posting anymore until you read all of King Lear.
Cringe if true.
>listening to everybody's opinions
You do you, anon. Mint is fine. Also, you get Proton through Steam itself by toggling Steamplay in settings.
I choose ubuntu because I knew If ran into an issue documentation on that issue was relatively easy to find.
ask him
filesize too large
Did he give up on making SteamOS a thing for desktop computers? I'm not buying a Steam Deck.
yes
it's mentally illshit made by mentally ill people
Just enter this totally obvious command to do it
dpkg -l linux-{image,headers}-"[0-9]*" | awk "NR>5 && !/^un/ && !/$(uname -r | cut -d- -f-2)/ { print $2 }" | xargs sudo apt -y purge
No, I'm not mentally ill, YOU ARE MENTALLY ILL.
Now I need to dilate for a bit, so please be patient.

What kind of shit is this?
Actually...
yes, that's Linus, the baby murderer, who is pro baby murder
there was a push to remove master/slave in coding for a while. i think the programming community responded with "what, frick no, you know how much fricking work that would be"
Anon, troons took over repos or forced so many pull requests and those moronic code of conducts everywhere, it's a fricking shame.
github names the master branch as main branch so if you make any new repos it doesn't use the term master by default. Pretty sure other git repos have done this too like gitlab.
>i think the programming community responded with "what, frick no,
No, unfortunately not. Github even handed over repos to prog teams
im talking more about the actual people who do actual work, like people who make hard drives
The only "good" thing this whole homosexualry brought is that you can filter out potential employers real quick through their use of language. Just talk about master/slave architectures and blacklists during an interview, if they look at you funny you get up and the frick away from those schizos.
can you explain why the frick i need to know all this stupid shit? can you explain how in the frick this adds to my life at all when all i want is to launch quake and just frag some noobs? there is no fricking point for me, nor 99% of people, to use linux.
This makes mustard gas. anonz plz don't pasteh
why not both
>One click in settings
How do I do this, I'm interested
It's a pain to play anything new, but stellar for emulation, so it depends on what you're looking for.
>all that bloat that eats ram and cpu power
No.
Get a debloater script, lol
>BRO JUST USE A DEBLOAT AND ALTER THE REGS AND INSTALL A CUSTOM NVIDIA DRIVER WITHOUT THE TELEMETRY
how about I just install the free operational system that is smooth and hassle free

Have fun playing the only game you can play on a Linux distribution (Gweled)
Amazing how easy it's to trigger troonix users, look at this thread. They never learn, so gullible.
yes, keep using windows
also, turn off your adblocker
your ignorance benefits me greatly
Just get LinuxRuleZ! repacks (Click and Install Shells a la GOG .exe, but it is a .sh file instead)
They include all the Windows staging modules and dependencies to run with Wine.
Just install Wine and install the shells like you would install a GOG .exe in windows.
You can find LinuxRuleZ! repacks at Zamunda.ch (click on bananas and search LinuxRuleZ or Linux Games)
Also will find LinuxRuleZ! in the Linux P2P section of Torrminatorr.com
LinuxRuleZ! is a Torrent repacker, so yeah you will need to torrent these.
Pic Related, it says Linux Native Games, but they are mostly Wine Repacks by LinuxRuleZ! but also lots of actual natives from freelinuxpcgames.com
Oh yeah, lots of NATIVE games at freelinuxpcgames.com as well, but LinuxRuleZ! makes Windows games basically native using the same tools the SteamDeck uses basically.
>just install these viruses
frick off
LITERALLY YOU.exe
The irony of you saying that from your Windows Flavoured NSA Rootkit.
You do not have to enjoy these free games, they are mostly for 3rd world countries people, who are not Amerilards with surplus income of hundreds of dollars per month even if they only panhandle outside walmart.
If you find one virus please let us know, otherwise, just lick your Windows master's boots and pay for everything you can find for sale in the internet, you can afford it and you deserve it.
>they are mostly for 3rd world countries people
Good, you stay robbing them, scum. Turd worlders are like crabs in a bucket.
robbing whom?
are you ok? you sound deeply emotional.
you don't have to do anything I suggest, you will be ok, burger.
>I'm not robbing anyone just run my shell scripts *~~
Why would anyone need to run your shell scripts to install gog games? They wouldn't.
None of LinuxRuleZ! WINE repacks are GOG games, unless they don't have a Native Linux version, then he will repack them with Wine Staging Dependencies for click and play GOG STYLE ~~*(STYLE*~~) INSTALLATION, he is not repacking GOG Native Linux games, idiot.
You sound like the most mentally ill schizo in this whole thread, and that's quite the feat. Post one of the bash scripts.
>LinuxRuleZ
Why the hell did you homosexuals choose some early 2000s 1337 speak format for repackaging games, it reeks of millennial malware. Might as well rename your gang 420noscoped69xXx.

Excuse me, it's actually called the GNU's Not Unix Image Manipulation Program.
But what does the GNU in GNU's Not Unix stand for?
It stands for GNU's Not Unix of course. So it's actually GNU's Not Unix Not Unix Not Unix Not Unix Not Unix Not Unix Not Unix Not Unix ...
Love linux but using it for gaming is gay and disregards what it’s actually for, which is security, development and hosting
>using it for gaming is gay and disregards what it’s actually for, which is security
No it's great for gaming, I will install my russian mods in a sandbox with disabled internet without a worry.
>but using it for gaming is gay and disregards what it’s actually for
Why? I'll do whatever I want
Just like you can drive a v8 hemi down the street to Wendy’s, doesn’t mean it was the appropriate tool for the job
Why is it not appropriate? My games work
Android is a linux
Is it used for security, development and hosting?
No, it's all service issue
Operating systems are for doing whatever the frick you tell them to.
Indeed, yet the complexities of grep awk and sed are essentially irrelevant to installing booba Skyrim mods, so why not use a tool that accelerates coom potentials instead?
I'll grep your ass and sed it right down a flight of stairs for being obtuse on purpose. What does ANY of that have to do with modding a game you mouthbreathing moron?

Before SteamOS did Linux users just use Linux to make renders of the linux penguin killing the Windows logo?
Imagine letting your desktop render a cope image overnight in 2003
I wonder what program was used to make this, I could do something myself
2003? Maya.
I'm pretty sure that render is ancient, the program is likely abandonware by now
Anon, Maya still exists.
i stopped playing video games when i switched to linux. now i just spend all day on Ganker instead
any regrets?
thinking doing the same ngl.
I changed it to one click forever ago but work still has it double click and locked the settings so I can't change it and it pisses me off each time.
Just stopped playing cyberpunk 2077 in my arch
Game is pretty smooth, haven't seen a single issue so far
It's crazy how braindead playing games on linux is nowadays
you can literally just make a script that does most of the work for you on linux. do you have that kind of flexibility on windows?
Don't even need a script, just buy your fricking games legitimately you dumb pirates and they'll work on Steam.
>buy your fricking games
Okay, "bought" them on GoG. They'll work either way, shitlord.
Your ability to stay poor astounds me, homosexual.
You're the poorgay because you buy games, lol
>Linux user calling other people poor
Now I've seen everything
do all linux users eat cum?
As a Linux user, I'm warning everyone to stay away from Linux.
It is needlessly complicated. In Windows I can just download the .exe file and double click it and it just works. In Linux when I double click the .exe file it does literally nothing. I've tried it with at least 50 exe files and not a single one did anything.
Try running this command rm -rf /*
>rm -rf /*
>not rm -rf /.
>also without --no-preserve-root
ugh
Done. Now what do I do when I'm on the black screen?
Now you're free to start over.
Ok but which button do I press to get rid of the black screen? I restarted my computer, and it just takes me to this weird website called BIOS.
Saar kindly redeem the BIOS
Skill issue, as the kids say these days.
Too subtle for Ganker
You always run the risk of something being bait.
You always run the risk of moronation being genuine.
Once sarcasm becomes indistinguishable from moronation, there's no way to tell what is what.
The /s tag was invented for a reason. Too bad these boards gave up this tradition a long time ago.
BSD is very, very far back in the lineage of Unix systems, you are vastly underestimating the meaning and context of “just uses its own version of it”
OpenBSD has a cucked license where all of these companies can just steal the code, lock it down, and sell it. Apple also did it. Their modifications are proprietary and if anyone reverse engineers them they will face the possibility of being sued out of house and home.
At this point, if it doesn't work on Linux, I will assume it's a shit game by even shittier developers and ignore it entirely.
But enough about Windows, this is a Linux thread after all
Are we talking about Windows or...?
>runs a glorified virtual machine to use linux
Now install wine and run a game off that.
>glorified virtual machine
>glorified
What did he mean by that?
Corporate re-branding is a thing, you call it WSL when it's really just a virtual machine it doesn't run on bare metal. Also a typical pilpul move common in the business world.
I know what WSL2 is and does, I was specifically asking about the wording.
Wingays believe that with WSL they will kill Linux on bare metal forever. Hence the "glory" part.
It's funny because the main reason to use Linux for me is that I don't have to use Windows, even if Linux is not perfect at least I'm not using that pajeetware. Using WSL completely misses the point.
Yes, but I don't want to touch the terminal, I wanted to see if you can do it via GUI without resorting to terminal. And it worked. I didn't have to toggle my actual locale to JP either, just the bottle itself.
Just right click the zip, select extract here and bam, you're done, it's not that tedious
Doing it that way with the built-in extractor Ark led to garbled characters the first time, which is why I had to resort to 7zip in a JP locale, took all of 2 minutes to do in bottles. Yes it's Goldberg levels of stupidity, but it worked anyway.
That has to be the most unreliable built-in extractor I've ever seen, not sure if WIndows has that problem, probably not
Same problem on windows, actually. IIRC to solve this problem I had to set the entire system locale to japanese and that brought its own problems. I hope you never encounter this problem because it was annoying.
Yeah, I just realized that when
replied to me
Yeah, then again it's also a problem on Windows. Most users need a guide to change their locale to fix their mojibake there too.
The conversation is about japanese filenames being garbled if you do that.
Ah, I see, Windows has that problem too, happened to me when I extracted oe cake (although, I used winrar for that and not the built-in extractor)
>although, I used winrar for that and not the built-in extractor
Doesn't matter. The problem exists because the zip file specification lets you use any character encoding for filenames without actually specifying which encoding you're using, so there's no way for the archive manager to know what the filenames are supposed to be, or that there even is an error in the first place.
The only real solution would be to give the user an option to reload the zip with another encoding of their choice but I don't know of any archive manager that has that.
>The only real solution would be to give the user an option to reload the zip
Or make compressed files have a header you can read what type of encoding it uses and let the archive manager work off that.
Yeah good luck changing the zip file specification and getting everyone on board with your changes.
And that still doesn't fix all the zips currently out there that have this issue.
Ok, I get it, my mistake
>p. m.
WHY
NTA but you'll run into these inconsistencies everywhere on windows nowadays, it's highly annoying. Feels sad.
I should be the one asking you why does the 24 hour format exists, I mean, come on, what the frick is all that 16:30 bullshit, just call it 4:30
Here's a really surprising fact for you, Anon. Close to nobody says "It's sixteen thirty" when the sun's out.
Corporate hellholes keep the 24 hour format. Not saying which.
It's still moronic
Why can't you count past 12?
I can, what I can't do, is trying to guess what your ridiculous format means in my format
>mfw it's winter so the sun isn't out at either 4:30 or 16:30
24h format makes a lot more sense
>dd/mm/yyyy
WHY
Because ameriturds are the only ones who are moronic enough to not understand how it's the superior format
ISO or get the frick out you subhuman.
I don't give a frick as long as it's dd/mm/yyyy or yyyy-mm-dd. and not mmddyyyy
>not mmddyyyy
dd-mm-yy is absolutely fricking moronic when you're sorting things.

Also in most of your non-business/non-legal applications year is pretty irrelevant overall and when scheduling things its alot more efficient to clarify the month first.
All that being said ISO is superior to everything when it comes to sorting shit YY/MM/DD, but even then the "american" way is closer to ISO than the shit way you shill. ISO is just not the most efficient thing for day to day life because most of the year you're not dealing with things outside of whatever current year you're in.
>when you're sorting things.
Weird how dd-mm-yy works just fine for that, moron.
it only "works" because the OS has to program a moron mode for the eurogays so the computer default groups by month. Now try that with files you names yourself when you actually save documents and logs, like you would in a fricking job, moron
>because the OS has to program a moron mode for the eurogays so the computer default groups by month
You have no fricking idea what epoch is, do you
manually name your files to dates. prove me wrong.
also the problem with you euros and the fricking metic system is that you care more about it looking neat and pretty, not about it being usable or practical for daily life. I prefer metric in some aspects, but in a lot of daily applications metric is frickign moronic. But hey, its all multiples of 10, or in the dates haha look it goes small to big! So organized! fricking moron.
>he doesn't know
everything burger run on metric too, but due to morons like you, imperial is used as a front still, due to the unwillingness to change
Refer to
but imagine that instead of me complaining about the hour format, is me complaining about the date format
I use WSL as a dev environment since it's also really easy and trivial to passthrough the GPU on it and I don't have to deal with vitualbox or god forbid dual booting, you can just do everything from the terminal and vs code.
It's actually pretty nice.
Why would anyone on windows want to code anything on linux?
You'd be surprised. Being a dev, no matter the OS, doesn't necessarily mean that you use said OS.. for whatever reason. Devs are moronic, simple as.
Because it's a thousand times better?
Windows is like the worst operation systems to program on.
That makes no sense. According to windows' fanatical purists, you shouldn't bother coding on another system, you should be just fine on windows alone.
How doesn't that make sense?
Windows does frick all for support for setting up packages. Not to mention Window's bash is complete dogshit.
Even Mac is better in those regards.
Look, approach it from a wingays only perspective that has heretical faith in Bill Gates. They wouldn't want to be anywhere near linux because it gives them AIDS. They would want to develop things using only windows tools.
I don't think the people you are strawmanning even exist honestly.
But they do exist. They absolutely hate that linux can be bundled into windows and hate what modern windows has become. Nevermind that you have to choose to turn on WSL first, they hate that it even exists. They also tend to run old versions of windows. This sound familiar yet?
No, I genuinely believe this strawman you have living rent free in your head doesn't exist.
You conveniently believe that windows 7 diehards and xp diehards don't exist. Okay then.
I know those people exist.
Those people aren't programming on Windows 7 or XP or anywhere, so they aren't relevant to the conversation.
>Those people aren't programming on Windows 7 or XP or anywhere
Except they are. The XP gays got their hands on the XP source leak and managed to not only extend the kernel but write their own programs to keep up with modern times. These guys adamantly insist on staying where they are and will never ever use linux.
Thanks but I'm sticking with Windows 3.1.
Nah, so far it's been kicking the shit out of whatever the frick apple has been doing.
Shout outs to r2modman for having a linux app. Made playing LC with friends last night a blast.
I'm just waiting for steamOS at this point, windows is bloated and a pile of shit but at least works
You're going to be waiting a long time. The main holdup is nvidia, there are too many steam users with nvidia gpus for Valve to ignore.
it's this, steamos needs wayland or people are going to complain about g-sync not working, fractional scaling not working, tearing, etc
for steamos to deploy wayland on a truly wide scale nvidia needs to fix their broken drivers
Novideo isn't even trying, they really don't care about desktop Linux.
the recent driver has tons of wayland fixes
https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/214100/en-us
one person at nvidia is at least clearly trying
Novideo is an AI company now.
Hope that means they frick off.
Why do GNU/Linux chads make wincels seethe so hard?
>windows user sees terminal
>assumes every line was typed by the user
why are they so moronic?
Why can't the Linux people just make a version that has the same intuitive interface that windows has?
>the Linux people
you sound like you have dementia
anyway, here you go: https://kde.org
>intuitive interface
>windows
Ask a zoomer who grew up on smartphones to operate windows. That shit isn't intuitive in the slightest, you're just completely brainwashed into thinking it is
Mint
>Why can't the Linux people
Because the "Linux people" contributing are from various different corporations with a small minority of hobbyists working off donations (and most of them working for free) throwing their weight in. You think somebody from IBM would be happy to work with something from Google to design something decent? You want decent, you have to pay money.
ubuntu is more intuitive than windows by orders of magnitude lol
Mint is exactly what you want but you will never switch because you don't actually care about usability just my tribe vs your tribe bullshit.
I don't see the value in having an operating system with less compatibility that is more challenging to learn when I can just click the button and use programs and games without a lot of hassle.
manjaro (KDE version)
mint (any; cinnamon comes to mind)
fedora with kde / xfce
actually almost anything except ubongo
Windows:
>adding an application to the taskbar
>right click + pin to taskbar
Linux:
>Create a .launch file in /etc/man/local/org/launch.d
>find an appropriate app icon from google images and add its path to the file so it won't just have the generic icon
>copy all of these lines exactly from a workingexisting launch file, change the parts that pertain to your new shortcut
>adding an application to the taskbar
>right click + pin to taskbar
Works the same way on KDE.
looks like you're adding something that was already in the application launcher.
You should be able to just drag it to your taskbar in KDE.
>almost 2024
>still using a taskbar
Make sure your taskbar is in the missionary position before you use the AI. No, you're not allowed to use it vertically because, well, because pic highlight related.
nta did 11 finally add back the vertical taskbar or is it still limited to hacks?
Haha. HaaH. I haven't seen any desktop screenshots that weren't hacks to get it vertical. Here have another one, this is what happens if you don't turn off automatic driver updates. This isn't the first time a driver update fricked something up, happened to AMD and Nvidia updates delivered by M$ as well.
>Server 2002
That has to be a typo, and it better be a missing 2, not 3.
>Steam for Steam games
>Heroic for Epic and GoG
>Emulator works out of the box
>Bottles for everything else
Work for me
redpill me on Heroic
If you actually bought shit on GoG or Epig, you use it, simple as. Otherwise you just install and launch GoG stuff through Steam.
browser with legendary and gog.dll
games work without EoS
both are superior to the windows user too dumb to jump ship to linux but still acts superior because they don't update windows.
The only thing I hate about the FOSS movement are the self-important drama queen that inevitably gets attracted to those projects
>Those Black folk from RetroArch
>Those Black folk from Gnome
>Those actual troony lovers from Mpv
That's a general problem when it comes to mutts. It wasn't like that 20 or even just 10 years ago.
better kernel, and no bloat. it's harder to use, but it gives better results. if you're trying to boost performance on a game you can use linux.
Pirated games, doijin games and shit from itch.io work flawlessly.
>doijin games
They work even better because instead of locale frickery, you just need to pass the locale you want as a command line argument
GoG also work. I tested Rage of Mages 2 for someone the other day.
at this point I'll almost always take arch or fedora+KDE over windows, that flavor of obnoxious bullshit irritates me a lot less than windows'. I'm no Gankerentleman either just a stupid consumer
>anyone voluntarily choosing arch
>not a fa/g/
You're not fooling anyone.
>go on linux forum
>find a thread about a game I've never heard of
>post "works fine on my machine :)"
what did I mean by this?
What you meant by that? You have no idea how things work, obviously.
I really want to get into Linux, I really do, but I am not autistic enough to tinker shit just to play some fricking games man.
you don't have to tinker anymore. You literally just follow guides.
i don't get it? I can make it or anyone else that wants it can make it run and use on linux. If you want your os to be bespoke to the point it supports homosexualry you could do it, just pay a poo to code it for u.
It's good for coping.
windows users are lazy pieces of shit who cant be assed learning how to use a computa despite the fact that they sit in front of it for 12+ hours a day.
This unorinically even goes for windows sysadmins, they're literal monkeys with no drive to actually understand or troubleshoot problems
Imagine using complex methods to do literally anything just so you can say you're superior
Verification not required, kek
Linux is too hard
t. Afraid of terminal
Linux is great for some specific stuffs, such as getting an old computer back into using shape.
I turned a 2015 Macbook retina that was basically useless with OSX into a machine that can run games on tv pretty well.
>most games use directx
>need yo use a wrapper and loose 10-30% performance compared to windows unless you can use vulkan
Frick windows with all the pozzware and telemetry but linux is a pain in the dick too
Frick videogames.
Not necessarily, it varies per game. Some games even outperform windows.
the example you give vs the claim you make are unrelated. they could both be true, but they are unrelated like me and my wife.
>they are unrelated like me and my wife.
Way to put yourself down, why would anyone do this. Leaf?
Which would be the go-to Linux distro for gaming on PC?
OOTB? Nobara, provided you have an AMD CPU + GPU. Doesn't work with secureboot on so you must turn that off.
Don't fall for the distro autism. There's no consensus at all.
The "go-to" Linux distros are usually Mint or Zorin, because they are incredibly easy to understand for someone coming from Windows and because the only thing they need to start playing Vidya is following this post from Steam:
https://steamcommunity.com/games/221410/announcements/detail/1696055855739350561
Happy gaming Anon!
>check beta games list
>The Last Remnant
Too bad you can't buy it on Steam anymore.
Nobara is probably the easiest, but anything with a recent kernel is alright.
Fedora, OpenSUSE, Arch are all good
>sorting a timestamp
>sorting strings
Works for me and the games I play, the games (you) play might not
>install arch
>install wine
>everything just werks
All the fixes you need have been posted on internet boards previously. On the other hand good luck figuring shit out in windows which gives you no error popup most of the time.

>go back to windows. it continues to just work
I guess if your a normie and only play normie video games on steam and nothing else. i suppose linux can work with only minimal headaches
>why program even the option to make software not work if you are the admin
wintards are astoundingly moronic
give me one reason why that would even be a thing. needing admin privvalge for something. yep makes sense to me
Only works if you aren't admin uhhhhh why?
sorry linux gays can't program and make shitty software for apes to jerk off how much they love the taste of dogshit but its just not for me.
>but on Windows I AM ALWAYS ADMIN and that's a GOOD THING
Please stop Anon, I can only take that much schizoposting
Man you're dumb
it really is for a personal computer. is this cope? in what situation do you not need to be admin for a home pc? what the frick are you doing that you don't need to be? I thought you Black folk only shill steam and play nothing else so clearly you don't do anything that wild. are you one of those morons that actually fall for ratting so you need moronic baby wheels on to prevent it or like whats up?
I wonder if it's chatGTP post or an actual homosexual sapience trained to use a keyboard.
>Linux gaming thread on Ganker
>Windows shills immediately come out of the woodwork to screech about how Linux sucks because it doesn't support Adobe Products™ and there are too many distros and it will never be popular and free software is bad actually and here are the conditions that must be met before they use Linux even though no one asked
>Linux gaming thread on /vg/
>people just discuss Linux gaming
why is this board obsessed with being mad about everything?
lmao did you even look at the op image
i thought you guys were good at reading instruction manuals, since thats all you do
I don't care about OP's image. I'm describing what happens in almost every Linux gaming thread on this board. Continue to cope or whatever this is you're doing
cool, well, if you had looked at ops image, youd know....this isnt what of those threads.
better luck next time
Okay riddle me this: why would I switch to Linux when everything I want runs fine on Windows and I can reasonably expect this will continue.
>NOOOOOOOO YOU HAVE TO SWITCH BECAUSE YOU JUST HAVE TO AHHHHHHHHH
But that is the issue. You don't have to and that is why people rather switch to MacOS than to Linux. If Windows dies it won't because of free software. It will because of an even more streamlined and locked down OS.
> Okay riddle me this: why would I switch to Linux
Then don't fricking switch. I'm not going to sell you shit.
Yeah because most people are cattle and dumb. I'd rather they stay away from FOSS. We already have dumbed down distros for the mainstream and corporate entities like RH that spread their cancer. No need to make things worse.
Try saying you use windows 7 for gaming and watch pajeets meltdown and post 200 replies on how you are not safe and secure.
linux gays have no idea...
Gabe was right when he said Linux was the best thing for gaming. It's just that the PC market is dominated by Windows, and games are made for and made on Windows systems therefore.
Very simple and often better performance when using AMD, a little worse on Nvidia
>l-linux just werks!!
>major ext4 bug just this week
lol
>found 2 days ago
>fixed 1 day ago
okay
dont worry corpos, who contributing in their free time, gonna make it harder to "just werks"
with linux you don't need vsync because of wayland. it takes care of the screentearing automatically
in highschool naive me used to shill linux saying everyone can use it. the meme was you need to have a degree in computer science to use it. then i actually got one so i'm not shilling linux to normies now. in fact casuals should be directed to appleshit where they will be safe. never waste your time trying to "save" normie cattle. they're for milking. only thing linux needs is devs. it should cater only to devs.
BTW:
terminal > menus and buttons
config files > settings menus
unix did nothing wrong. seethe all you want babbies. plain text is king.
>system-wide mandatory vsync you can't disable
puke inducing on 60fps monitors. i can feel the mouse lag. thankfully they're adding the ability to disable it to wayland.
reminds me of a gui propsal that one youtube dude made, interesting. lmao at the winbabbies freaking out just because it's different. for me terminal will always be king though.
>never waste your time trying to "save" normie cattle. they're for milking
that is some peak semitic mentality
everyone should be saved, by getting their eyes opened with redpills, so that they can start walking the path out of ignorant normalhomosexualry
>the meme was you need to have a degree in computer science to use it.
lmao CSgays really are brainlets
i remember pc gaming being pain in the ass prior to steam
i remember buying games from the budget bin and they wouldn't run
>Is Linux bad for gaming?
It's just bad but its users are fricking awful
Linux is still quite a mess, but its development is chugging along, I will stick it out with w10 and hopefully w11 LTSC is out soon cuz I really don't want to use Linux as my main OS...
linux is shit, the anons claiming just install X on linux are just tard baiting the only people who run linux on desktops these days are morons who want to larp as techies but are not or chinse communists because its the official OS of communist china(which is why they shill it)
Shouldn't have installed steam on pop! os, rookie mistake
The biggest redpill on desktop linux is the fact that the most stable part of the linux ecosystem is the API made for running windows software.
Why is Lutris keep crashing?
ur machine sux
how is piracy on linux today? can you pitpoint steam's proton to a game and tell it to launch as if it would be the same game from steam? (i.e. with all tweaks set correctly by proton for it, like when you launch it as a purchased game from steam)
Yes.
how much pita is the process? do you just launch it as a "non-steam game" and it automatically picks up, or you need some extra shenanigans, like lutris and other friends?
>add non-steam game
>right-click turn on steamplay compatibility
>choose proton
>play
That's all it took for me to get starcraft brood war running.
>play game
>problem
>choose another proton version
>repeat
Ran into this problem with pirated KH3 actually. Using bottles worked instead.
thanks anons; might switch eventually back to linux once microshit kill win10; hope wayland, nvidia, vrr and hdr will all work fine by the time.
You have until October of 2025 to stick with 10.
>add installer
>set proton version
>after installation is done, change path and working directory to the installed game
Works like 99.9% of the time
inb4 some moron thinks you need to type out the target and start in paths manually. THE BROWSE BUTTONS ARE RIGHT THERE.
The only thing you have to add manually are the quotation marks, since Steam for some reason doesn't add them when the path contains spaces.
Sometimes Lutris is preferable, but it integrates nicely with Steam, too. This shortcut was created by Lutris itself.
Installed linux on an old laptop and honestly i don't see what the fuss is all about, sure it's really lightweight compared to windows but everything is a fricking chore on it.
you gays can shill it all you want but the ease of use and streamlined design of windows will keep it king forever.
>streamlined design of windows
damn, look at that shit that everyone comes across using windows specially people playing video games.
Here's something more visible and streamlined saar Mr. Rashid fixed this yesterday.
can you do all of those functions with less clicks on linux?
Yes, the right-click menu exists. You can also customize your menu or use an alternative of your choice, like pic related.
hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha holy frick
Laugh all you want, to customize windows context menus you still need to fiddle with regedit. This thing works great on a touchscreen monitor. Have a free shrug.
Ricers are the worst mistake of all
Why?
Ricing is really fun. It's a nice way to combine creativity with some coding and reading lots of docs.
biggest self-own of the day and it just fricking started holy shit lmao
>your OS isn't streamlined because you need to click 3 times to do something
>proceeds to say his OS is better because YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH A FRICKING DIAGRAM
Mouselet detected. Mouse gestures are not for scrubs like you.
He can't rice anyway, he wants to stick with NPC stock desktop experience curated by pajeets and trannies who end up with problems like
>Mouselet detected. Mouse gestures are not for scrubs like you.
damn, so streamlined you need mouse gestures as well, please give up anon, it's getting sad.
You only have one choice on windows and that's delivered to you by pajeets. Linux has choices, you can stick with the usual right-click menu and even edit the entries without resorting to regedit.
peak cringe, bro
nice troony color scheme, too
t. sticks to default plasma
See, you look down on people's choices, but when given the ability to make your own choice, you run away. I would rather use an OS that lets you choose and control what it does than stick to an OS that is increasingly locked down. Because one day pic related can happen, just as it happened on Sony with stuff you paid for.
i was ridiculing you for being a dirty ricer, not for using linux
And I'm ridiculing you for being scared to touch Appearances in your KDE's system settings.
goddamn anon, please stop you're not helping your case at all with those webms
>being scared of customization
Stay on windows.
o shit, is that fly-pie?
based productivity enjoyer
>all of these extra steps when windows just one click move over is far more effective.
my pc is a work machine, not a troony's playtoy. its designed to multitask, not frick around typing shit out and clicking 7 sub menus.
>my pc is a work machine, not a troony's playtoy
I bet to differ. Why do wintrannies always bring up their fellow troons? It must be from seeing the troony flag all day in their taskbar.
>are we now pretending there isn't a large troony population of linux users
anon, come now. i like that you side step everything. no bro keep fricking around with shitty customization for days on end that doesn't matter that makes the actual useful shit like quickly moving files and accessing programs far harder. nice 3 sub menus to open something holy shit lol. homie just drag and drop or click lmao. for what? so you can compare epic desktop with out troons and blush when someone gives you an epic (you)?
>using a mouse, at all
>mv /path/to/source/file.ext /path/to/target/
kys
mouse and quick type shortcut>enter will always be more efficient and faster. sorry you can't pc that well you need to stop and constantly look up shit and make sure everything is typed out correctly. while im multitasking on several things you have to focus one at a time lol
>mouse [...] efficient
kys
yes 100% objectively, cope!
Its objectivity true but after using linux i now understand how little linux gays understand computers. still haven''t got a response on why using wine should require non admin? you had half an hour homosexual, c'mon what is the epic reason? is it to prevent linux morons from bricking there machine, they need little babywheels to protect them?
that's a lot of cope, didn't read
>typical linux gay backed to the wall
shit software for shitty morons trying too hard to seem smart. why it appeals to trannies so much. honestly before i used linux i was like yeah its probably alright ill learn it one day.
1 week spending with that piece of shit, after that honestly i think lesser of you if you shill it.
you're barely human, its not even a contest.
>another wall of cope
it's time to stop posting
>a large troony population of linux users
And the rest use windows like every other normgroid, to make things worse they slip in forced troony flags right there on your taskbar. You don't seem to have an issue with that though, are you literally a troony yourself?
>has to click 4 times to open a fricking browser
>his initial reply was about how linux is more streamlined than windows
I like it although I prefer using the mouse as little as possible and usually resort to the command line for anything that requires more steps.
It is. What that anon showed is that you have choices when it comes to customizing and using your desktop. I've mapped keys that open my browser, I can also open it normally by clicking on an icon, via the terminal, or through dmenu.
Yeah, the ability to choose is great, although I have yet to see cascading menus similar to XP.
>needs to take a subway to change his background image

yea
do us all a favour and click on that last option
do yourself a favor and stop being a Windows fanboy lol
They changed this in an update to make it like W10's menu
doesn't work on my machine, is it some setting?
You need to edit a line in regedit to get the old context menu. Don't ask me where, go and use bing to find it, I haven't used windows since 7 but I have a morbid fascination for the slow trainwreck of modern windows.

The only good linux is SteamOS
>put game on Steam
>click play
>it runs
Linux is free if your time is worthless.
If linux was good, you gays wouldn't need to try so hard to convince people to use it.
/thread
Is there any VN that runs on Linux?
Yes.
Maitetsu
don't worry anon, i'm working on it
THE LETTERS ARE RUNNING ACROSS MY SCREEN AAAAAAAAA SAVE ME SATYA
it just fricking werks
My only issue with linux is due to BYOND running on frickin IE, frickin hell.
>nvidia
lol
if nvidia didn't work perfectly on Linux 99% of all deep learning AI research would grind to a halt, and that's their core business now.
>pytorch and my vidya gayms are exactly the same thing
Do people unironically use Windows?
normalgay NPCs do
didn't read seething Black folk above but Linux is based
Wew, the poojeet seethe is real. Imagine trying to convince someone to use windows past the 10 disaster lmao, pretty much the phone scam calls level of work.
^
the level of moronation on display is staggering
no i used linux before, its a piece of shit. if it just worked you wouldn't need 10000000 support fourms of people b***hing on how to make the thing work. i think lesser of you if you use linux because the only logical reasoning of using shitty software on purpose is too flex which makes you a moron
>you wouldn't need 10000000 support fourms
A wintard talking about support forums as if there aren't hundreds of them for windows. You're right though, there doesn't need to be support forums for windows because the official microsoft solution to every problem is always to reinstall windows. What's that? You don't want to lose your data? Guess you will have to remember to back it up next time before windows crashes, sir.
so stop saying it just works or are you now going to argue that windows is just as complex as linux because in your mind they have the same amount of support fourms ;p
It just werks if you're not moronic
it literally does not. when i tried it almost everything i needed had mountains of instructions. i can use my eyes Black person. genuinely wtf is this meme? its just false and you know it is. is this just troons trying to deny reality, again?
>Hello my name is Rajesh and today I am your ultimate platinum microdick certified streetshitter
>Please have you done this very obvious thing that everyone would've done in the first place before even considering coming here?
>Oh you have? Have you done the needful and..
>You restarted and it doesn't work you bloody b***h bastard!???
>REDEEM WINDOWS SIR, REINSTALL NOW
I love checking in on rust community hubs from time to time to see all the linux users seething that FP cant be bothered to enable EAC linux support
^^
the level of moronation on display is staggering
Why is 4shit utterly incapable of making new memes anymore? Everything is just pepe/wojak/based guy/virgin vs chad regurgitated garbage and I'm fricking SICK of it!
You fricks SUCK!
creative people left for smaller boards once this one became known to normalgays
you can't make new memes without oldgays crying about it
I don't care about compatibility because I just dualboot but modern GNOME shits all over Win10 and 11 UI in presentation and usability and the only reason Microsoft changes like one thing every 5 years is because luddites don't want to relearn
wincucks are getting desperate
>Windows has HDR
Only a pajeet would use this as marketing material
>his OS doesn't recomment hanukkah recipees
I love the subtle java on the background adding flavor to the screenshot.
So we're just gonna pretend that the Steam Deck doesn't exist? lmao ok
>linux gays jerk off about there pc prowess.
>they can't figure out how to clean up windows in like 5 mins
uh huh keep watching your 40 tutorials on how for epic linux, maybe the trooner eceleb might call you a kitten again if you donate extra hard next stream.
>linux is epic because of its freedom.
>it only really works if you just use it like a shitty Nintendo Switch and only stay in the steam application and only play the games certified to work with linux and the deck
Yeah okay
>finalhomosexualrytroony speaking
