the version without the rocket smoke is fine, the battlefield still turns into a smoldering, fiery cauldron, but you can still see more than 10 feet in front of you even on moons without atmosphere
I had over a thousand hours in MWO but never put more than 5 hours into MW5, maybe with updates and mods it got better but I haven't bothered trying again
MW5 is fun for a little bit, but it gets very stale very quickly since every mission is procedurally-generated slop and the hand-crafted story missions barely feel any different than the filler missions, and you get to play one of those for every ten filler missions on average.
>did any of you play Mechwarrior Online
A little at the initial launch, but I actually picked it up again around December and it's quite fun. People are usually chill, and the events give out a good amount of premium currency to buy skins or mechs with. Most of the real-money mechs aren't strictly better than the in-game-money variants, I've never really found myself going 'oh man if I'd had the paid version of this thing I would've killed that guy' because the paid version is usually geared to do a completely different build that a different free 'mech probably already does.
>every mission is procedurally-generated slop
That's an outright lie. Game has tremendous amount of handcrafted storyline missions with DLCs, literally t least 4 separate campaigns within campaigns, you lying fricking subhuman.

The vanilla game has like 4 mission types and like 6 biomes, and every mission crams every inch of square space full of cannon fodder tanks, helicopters, and turrets. Every AI enemy fights like they want to personally end your lance for kicking their dog or some shit, and every character repeats the same badly-voiced lines for each mission. Mechwarrior 4 had way more variety in OpFor deployments, better voice acting and unique dialog for each mission, and enemies actually fought like real militaries would, with your lance being able to force retreats if you destroyed enough mechs.
>shit-eating subhuman turd-worlder who never played the game opens his shit-encrusted ass-mouth to vomit verbal diarrhea no one cares about

The game economy revolves around having 2+ lances worth of spare mechs to rotate and being careful to not lose a mech outright even if it is catastrophically damaged. They've got Archangels from Jihad era my dude
https://wiki.mechlivinglegends.net/index.php?title=Archangel
Idk if it was the map design of previous games or hardware issues that prevented them from making big maps but it never bothered me until I tried playing mw5 and there were so many opportunities where my 50+ ton death machine's weapons just fizzled into the air at a distance shorter than what you can make shots at with an average hunting rifle. Mw2 was one of my first PC games growing up so I've been playing the franchise off and on for 20+ years but this is the first time it made it unplayable for me.
Shoulda gone with ballistics. The arch on the AC20 is thrown pancake tier but they didn't have damage decay for the longest time so actually hitting things with them was pretty rewarding.
after lengthy scientific analysis, I've determined that quad clan PPC Kaiju is the best possible mech in the game. I wouldn't use it otherwise, because the wienerpit view is awful and its annoyingly low to the ground
one of the popular mission mods adds beyond-maximum-difficulty legendary missions which require you to kill dozens of mechs all at once. 4 PPC crab can one-shot anything at any range, meaning it takes the least amount of chip damage over the course of a mission. And critically, it never runs out of ammo.
Best in the series and the only pve mech game worth playing on the market, because it's the only pve mech game on the market. Everything else has nothing to do with mech games.
MW5 starts off with some tiresome family revenge plot and then plops you down to enjoy randomly-generated no-context mission slop for 50 hours. The voice acting is bad, the sound effects are bad, the writing is thankfully ignorable, and there's barely any actual content
MW3 starts off with a no-nonsense military briefing for what is a very seriously-presented military campaign, and takes you through hand-crafted missions with unique objectives and brutal difficulty spikes that force you to cherish every single scrap of salvage
>want to take my heaviest mechs >can't because of mission limitations >bring what I can >enemy has 2x as many heavy mechs as I do plus 10 smaller mechs
Am I supposed to just not care when one of my mechs blows up or a pilot dies?
I really fricking wish crash logs would name an offending mod because I have 110 of the fricking things and the Solaris update broke ONE of them, but i don't know which. Fricking sucks.
what the frick do you even use the dual joysticks for? I get having one, but what does the second one offer? Are there games where you can independently move the arms?
For the (good) Mechwarrior and similar mech sims like Heavy Gear, you can move the reticule and your torso independently. Additionally, one hand acts as a throttle for some games. I would suggest, personally, a one-handed throttle and a joystick. I used to play with rudder pedals to adjust walk/run/glide/jumps but I grew out of that when I got higher quality joysticks/throttles.
I figured throttle and joystick was the combo to go for controlling your mech. It could be interesting using throttle and joystick, with pedals to rotate the torso independently of aiming. Probably more of a hassle than anything else.
Depends on how desperate you are for stompy mechs
It's an awful game that becomes average with dozens of mods installed
Just (re)play Mechwarrior 3 and 4
D-did you just try to run the dedicated server...?
I really don't want to make fun of you because you're probably just young and/or afraid of technology from your previous posts, but jesus christ man.
People on Ganker would tell me before that game sucks and it MUST use mods to be playable but I played it few months ago, my very first MW game and I loved it. Didnt even use any mods, still liked it. I must admit however that randomly generated stuff can get annoying sometimes but I only got a bit bored after 70 hours so thats okay in my book. Also, DLC galore is not good thing, missions from Rasa and Dragon Gambit were really fun but melee DLC with that axe mech was mediocre.
Can anyone do me a favor? Could you post the name or look of the paintjobs you get as rewards for completing missions in vanilla and DLC of MW5?
Just want to make sure that the mods I'm using for adding custom paint jobs don't clash with the existing ones and make them unable to appear or something like that.
It is fine in Mechwarrior games because it is interactable. It is horseshit in things like Battletech mods (i.e. Roguetech) because there is no way to interact with it, making nothing more than >teehee the suicidal pilots who keep running at you have a 3% chance to go nuclear on you
Stackpoling is fine in the action-based games and fine in human vs human tabletop. It is fricking stupid when modded into Paradox games that obfuscate necessary mechanics and field AI that is less intelligent than what was being run in The Crescent Hawk's Revenge over 30 years ago.
I liked it but it pales in comparison to 4 or 3
Is it fine to play vanilla or should I get some mods in particular? I remember seeing them mentioned, but not which ones.

What made Mechwarrior 3 feel so good?
high production value + no bullshit
MW5 starts off with some tiresome family revenge plot and then plops you down to enjoy randomly-generated no-context mission slop for 50 hours. The voice acting is bad, the sound effects are bad, the writing is thankfully ignorable, and there's barely any actual content
MW3 starts off with a no-nonsense military briefing for what is a very seriously-presented military campaign, and takes you through hand-crafted missions with unique objectives and brutal difficulty spikes that force you to cherish every single scrap of salvage
Mechwarrior 3 was amazing for its time and it took itself seriously where you were spec ops mechwarriors on a do-or-die mission in clan space.
No. I wanted it to be good but it just isn't.
If you can't post your final mission scoreboard, your opinion on the game is worth less than dogshit lol
Where are your urbies?
When you think about it Annihilators are just 3 urbies stacked on top of each other.
With or without the trenchcoat?
Without. They're just welded together which accounts for the extra 10 tons.
Now that screams efficiency and ingenuity
>The random hireable npcs have better voice acting than the main characters
i love the mod that adds the voice acting of previous games
I remember the MechCommander voices being pretty seamless.
>want to take my heaviest mechs
>can't because of mission limitations
>bring what I can
>enemy has 2x as many heavy mechs as I do plus 10 smaller mechs
Am I supposed to just not care when one of my mechs blows up or a pilot dies?
I really fricking wish crash logs would name an offending mod because I have 110 of the fricking things and the Solaris update broke ONE of them, but i don't know which. Fricking sucks.
So just split up the mod list in half until you find the offending mod
Do you guys use torso counter rotation?
I just discovered it was a thing in the options and it's damn nice.
i bind rotationlock to a mousekey for quick and easy reorientation
Yes, get two joysticks and you'll have fun.
what the frick do you even use the dual joysticks for?
Just (re)play Mechwarrior 3 and 4
enough foreplay give the facts can i have fun with a urban and raven in LL and if yes how do i get that game and for how much

>he installed shit from Ganker
Enjoy your crypto miner.
D-did you just try to run the dedicated server...?
I really don't want to make fun of you because you're probably just young and/or afraid of technology from your previous posts, but jesus christ man.
pretend i am your grandfather and guide me through the steps
Jesus
People on Ganker would tell me before that game sucks and it MUST use mods to be playable but I played it few months ago, my very first MW game and I loved it. Didnt even use any mods, still liked it. I must admit however that randomly generated stuff can get annoying sometimes but I only got a bit bored after 70 hours so thats okay in my book. Also, DLC galore is not good thing, missions from Rasa and Dragon Gambit were really fun but melee DLC with that axe mech was mediocre.

Yes
There's one with a couple players right now

If you have gamepass it's worth a try, I don't know if I would buy it straight up.
To add to this, I'm aware there's a couple for the Bounty Hunter and then the Divergent paint from Kestrel Lancers DLC?
i somehow did it, i watched some mech frickin them selfes over for 5 minutes but hot do i get to control my own mech
I believe in you anon you can figure it out
You are either really really old or way too young.
Is Mech Warrior Online worth playing? Can a new person get into it?
Play LL and join the other newcomer
i did it, the old man managed to join a server! AND I COULD EVEN PLAY A RAVEN!
if you tell me you are 69 i will forgive you for asking those questions earlier
i am 46, but very slow but i love mechs
c**** that was painful, adjusted your keybinds please
shush, give me three month and i will scrub the floor with you
What is your opinion on Stackpoleing?
Do you like to see it in your MechWarrior/Battletech games, or is it annoying for you
It is fine in Mechwarrior games because it is interactable. It is horseshit in things like Battletech mods (i.e. Roguetech) because there is no way to interact with it, making nothing more than
>teehee the suicidal pilots who keep running at you have a 3% chance to go nuclear on you
Stackpoling is fine in the action-based games and fine in human vs human tabletop. It is fricking stupid when modded into Paradox games that obfuscate necessary mechanics and field AI that is less intelligent than what was being run in The Crescent Hawk's Revenge over 30 years ago.
Are there any mods you use that are Steam Workshop-only?
No clue
