Poking around looking for updates and found this. Surely this is a joke. Right..? Is OpenVic ever coming out or is it stuck in development hell? Discord seems dead and the promised November Dev Diary hasn't dropped yet. Is it over for us Victoriabros?
>update
It's not a joke.
the issue is that it's not a real open source project
the whole thing is simply an autistic tantrum by spudgun & friends over victoria 3 existing
he used to insert random "hehe victoria 3 is... le bad" into his videos for a while, the game living rent-free in his head as he played vic 2
why is that a problem for development of openvic? there's only so long one can tardrage over something so insignificant - they have moved through the stages of grief so the interest in trying to "develop" this "project" died
meanwhile alice was and is an actual attempt to create an open source victoria 2 clone that wasn't launched on a whim of some internet personality and his clique of autistic friends throwing a tantrum
it's for the best really
chudgun's edited vic 2 multiplayer videos are entertaining
best to focus on that instead of jousting at windmills and getting mad that victoria 3 exists and doesn't conform to what the "victoria multiplayer community" (like 20 people) thinks
Spite is a great motivator while working on something. If you see that a game you've been playing for years gets a really bad sequel, and you decide to use the hatred of that sequel to actually make a replacement, which an open source implementation would be, you can actually get a lot of shit done. Unfortunately, OpenVic is bogged down in bureaucracy and lacks the one man autism vision and drive that most of these projects need.
I feel they need to actually let people have access to whatever current status their map/game is in. Most people won't believe what you say until they can see it themselves, which in this case will be directly on their computer.
You can download built versions from GitHub for every single commit
>Unfortunately, OpenVic is bogged down in bureaucracy
Its really funny to me that these people wanted to make a game and their first move was role playing as a real company by creating a huge amount of red tape.
Surely they draw a hefty wage like people in a real company do
What would theoretically be funnier? Them getting paid or them doing it FOR FREE.
>Spite is a great motivator while working on something
Nah, it's not. It burns out too quickly and is more destructive than creative. See the entire history of Yandere Simulator clones, or the YanSim itself. All are spite projects. None succeeded.
I'm talking about videogames here, sir, not pedophilia simulators.
Anyone with any sense agrees Vic3 is a shit game and missed a huge opportunity to improve on what Vic2 already did well years ago. It’s not just 20 guys who play multiplayer.
Project Alice chads just cannot stop winning!
What’s Project Alice?
The open source vic2 that is actually being developed.
OpenVic is a meme and always will be a meme.
What happened to the autist raging about multiplayer FP implementation?
Probably still raging, I don't know, nor do I care; no-one plays multiplayer in paradox games; that "community" is quite insignificant and should be laughed at and ignored.
https://schombert.github.io/Project-Alice/
You say that, yet Spudgun goes on ad nauseam about how the multiplayer community (max 50 guys) is single-handedly keeping Vic2 alive.
>we know the most about Victoria 2 because we’re actually playing against humans and not the AI!
>the work of a few turbo-autists who tried to make sense of the economy is actually credited to the multiplayer community
His edited content is quite good, and really one of a kind, but latching his channel to this game-development quagmire wont do him any favors.
Thanks for the link btw. Managed to find their YouTube Channel and PA’s progress looks really promising. Fonts need a rework though lol.
Why exactly is openVic doing poorly? It’s a shame if so because I actually like Spud quite a bit. I had high hopes for openVic, but I haven’t followed any progress.
Right now the issue is they've presented nothing but mockups and spreadsheets.
>pic related.
Simply put, they've got nothing to show. It's all smoke and mirrors. A great big bureaucratic mess to keep tinkering with until it's 'just right' to start development. Meanwhile, Project Alice is steamrolling ahead with hardly any publicity and Spudgun doesn't want to talk about it because it's not his project. It's all just so fricking gay and shady.
Very disappointing to see.
It is. Having two open source projects competing with each other scratches an itch in my brain I didn’t even know existed. Can you imagine?
>moronic ideas not being implemented just because some discord troon with no job badgers for it 24/7. Instead there’s a consideration for how it would affect the project’s support base seeing as there’s a competitor who could easily placate a dejected audience.
>Actual participation (not LARP events) from the community as, again, each supporter is now a valuable resource and could always be stolen away at a moments notice
>More transparency. Less discord autism.
Ah, but anon, it was only ever a dream. At least Project Alice is shaping into something moddable at the very least.
So it's the same scam as the skywind project with troons hogging up the idea and never doing anything with it?
>Project A is implement first, refactor second
>Project B is design first (corporate style), implement second
where you expecting anything else? Project A is going to steamroll ahead and overshadow Project B as it gets bogged down in planning hell, as it's not even in development hell. Never trust corporate bots to develop anything.
well, actual corporations are made of paid employees instead of some autismos motivated by seething
>the schizo autism spreadsheet
He actually has a vic2 community, where is the sp vic2 community? /gsg/ lmao?
The silent majority.
I don't know but I do remember him having a chimp-out when it was pointed out that Supreme Commander has completely deterministic floating-point math in its simulation.
>The open source vic2
but its not, they are changing how game works significantly
t. openvic pr manager
something is wrong with what i wrote? different AI logic, economy rework and god knows what else, its not going to be vic2
>it has to have busted-ass AI that suicides into mountains
>it has to have a broken economy
yes because the game and mods were balanced with around that, if you want to change base game release mods or later other versions of the game.
My friend worked on this and everything he said was that the main dev was a joke and another project (prob alice) is doing better
Why did he think that? From reading their dev diaries it looks like they’ve hardly gotten things off the ground but is it an actual grift or something?
Do you have a link to Project Alice? Would appreciate it
Lot's of samegayging going on in this thread
Uhhhh who cares...? If it comes out cool if it doesn't nothing changed
Why do people keep saying OpenVic is doing nothing when it's been making continual progress?
Where's the game?
All I see is mockups while a 60 year old autist alrrady has a playable game.
>project alice is the real vic 2 recreation bro
if you
ignore war and units
ignore stockpiles
ignore rebels
ignore ai
it just doesnt feels like victoria 2, more like shitty knock-off (i mean, it kind off is)
>you need to keep ai moronic so i can do le grobgermaniumz
moron
>latest openvic livestream has 5000 views in just 14 hours
wow
hi spud
>Game development takes a while and a lot of effort.
>We know this.
>Wah why is this free remake of an old triple a quality 2000s era video game taking so long?
>Victoria 2
>AAA
Lmao, it's B level at best. And Project Alice started later and has a mostly complete release already.
>VIC2
>TRIPLE A QUALITY
that's a triple a quality joke
there are incremental games that are more complicated than vic2
More like
>why has this free remake of an old 2000s era video game of questionable quality made next to zero progress in multiple years, and is getting absolutely blown the frick out by GODberg?
>next to zero progress in multiple years
Neither of those things are true though.
>AAA
Delusional
Also wasn't vic2 made in less than a year with a small team?
