I didn’t realize just how stupid one of my old friends was until I helped him build a PC, by which I mean I built it for him.
He tried three or four times to force the CPU into its socket on the motherboard incorrectly. He was also trying to do this by holding the motherboard upside down and lowering onto the CPU.
He couldn’t figure out how to slot the RAM in on his own. He couldn’t focus on the motherboard’s manual long enough to learn what pins did what and how to correctly set up the power buttons and front I/O on his case.

In a span of five years (before people upgrade their computer), you would need to torrent 18 games worth $70 assuming that the computer cost around $1300. If we divide 18 by 5 then we get 4 games after rounding it up. The year of 2023 was exceptional but for the most part, there is probably a single $70 game worth torrenting if we are lucky.
I still think computer is the superior platform because even if you don't make up for its initial cost through torrents, you can always use it to play anything you want from the past several decades unlike consoles.

That being said, saying you play games and exclusively play on consoles is like saying you like drag racing and pull up in a Toyota Sienna 2003. If you genuinely don't have the money to buy a PC because life sucks and just want to play some games there's no shame in playing on console, but if you have the means and the ability to buy a PC but don't, I wouldn't really call you hardcore, or you're misguided

I was using a ThinkPad x220 from 2013 until then. Went from an old mobile i5 and Intel HD 3000 to a Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 2060. I'm set for the next five years at minimum, likely longer.
youre not set, the industry is going to undergone rapid change starting next year with ai tools. You'll need a much much faster gpu and cpu along with oodles of memory

it's harder to justify spending money on a powerful PC just for games, if most of your PC's No-gaming activities are posting in Ganker or reading X/Facebook/Tiktok. And you need invest in large storage and faster internet. Pc are expensive in the long run, the fact that you spend more time troubleshooting, updating drivers, testing bugs, and save everything in a zip file, and send the zip to the developers is a example. The amount of trash advice on Ganker telling you should gaming only in KB+mouse, but not ideal, ergonomically. Your GPU have four Hdmi outputs for a bigger screen in your living room.
And you cant turn on a PC on and jump into a game instantly. There's always an update (Steam, windows itself) to be downloaded and installed
It's really less maintenance than you mention. Game and OS updates are done in the background. OS updates come once a month, so you know ahead of time what day to be ready to reboot. Game updates are just done when they're available (at least on Steam and battle.net). You might have to update GPU drivers occasionally, but that's about it.
This is not a very high bar, and you might occasionally dunk on a 3rd worlder who actually has a toaster.

Do you save up more than the computer's price by torrenting games though? In a span of five years (before people upgrade their computer), you would need to torrent 18 games worth $70 assuming that the computer cost around $1300. If we divide 18 by 5 then we get 4 games after rounding it up. The year of 2023 was exceptional but for the most part, there is probably a single $70 game worth torrenting if we are lucky.
I still think computer is the superior platform because even if you don't make up for its initial cost through torrents, you can always use it to play anything you want from the past several decades unlike consoles.

PC gaming is for the hardcore. Like it or not, it's more expensive than console gaming, you miss out on the occasional worthwhile exclusives, and plenty of ports just run like shit or have issues that won't be solved until years later when you can throw hardware at a software problem. That being said, saying you play games and exclusively play on consoles is like saying you like drag racing and pull up in a Toyota Sienna 2003. If you genuinely don't have the money to buy a PC because life sucks and just want to play some games there's no shame in playing on console, but if you have the means and the ability to buy a PC but don't, I wouldn't really call you hardcore, or you're misguided

99% of PC problems are easy to fix until you run into that 1 issue where search engines find nothing, there are no logs, no help forum, and if there's even an error message it's something like

it's harder to justify spending money on a powerful PC just for games, if most of your PC's No-gaming activities are posting in Ganker or reading X/Facebook/Tiktok. And you need invest in large storage and faster internet. Pc are expensive in the long run, the fact that you spend more time troubleshooting, updating drivers, testing bugs, and save everything in a zip file, and send the zip to the developers is a example. The amount of trash advice on Ganker telling you should gaming only in KB+mouse, but not ideal, ergonomically. Your GPU have four Hdmi outputs for a bigger screen in your living room.
And you cant turn on a PC on and jump into a game instantly. There's always an update (Steam, windows itself) to be downloaded and installed

It's really less maintenance than you mention. Game and OS updates are done in the background. OS updates come once a month, so you know ahead of time what day to be ready to reboot. Game updates are just done when they're available (at least on Steam and battle.net). You might have to update GPU drivers occasionally, but that's about it.
