I haven't touched the gacha at all but all my Japanese friends who've been playing for longer than I have said it's a waste of money and the rewards are trash. I only started yesterday (about level 24) and the levelling seems to be much more relaxed than it was at launch, I think you can reach level 60 just by doing the main story quest.
The gameplay so far is really fun, doing missions (= dungeons) and other challenges while also exploring the world and the main story is really enjoyable for me although I only played for 14 hours according to my console.
While the censorship is shit, BP has way bigger issues than that.
I went through the trouble of learning how to set up a personal VPN service to play it, I don't think I even lasted a full week.

that wasn't the issue, it just feels really bad to play. 4 Abilities, no combos, just using whatever's off cooldown (I know the lancer is different but I quit before then), the visual effects covering your entire screen, the enemies being really boring, etc.
For action combat there's way better MMOs out there, PSO2 and PSO2NGS is top of the line by a long shot, New World, Tera was better (RIP), Dragon's Dogma Online was stellar too (RIP).

Maybe it depends on the class. I play archer which has a lot of synergy between different skills and passives to apply buffs/heals to the party and/or debuff enemies and apply status ailments to increase damage. If you just button mash your abilities at random you won't get very far, and the way you build your character also matters as you can't have all your available abilities equipped (but you can swap between builds at least)
Like, don't get me wrong it's nothing revolutionary and it's not the pinnacle of action gaming, but for an MMO I find it rather enjoyable. It reminds me of Guild Wars 2 except more action oriented.
