No, not at all. Portal 2 is better in evry single way.
Plus portal is a short as frick game, its more of a tech demo, where portal 2 is a fully fledges game, even has multiplayer.
tbh I dont think I would ever play portal again but I would play portal 2 and the multiplayer again.
lol. portal 2 is most unnecessary game ever. i couldnt believe how everyone was sucking its dick when it came out. but now its rightfully forgotten at least
WTF are you talking about.
It uses the portal tech, adds more puzzles and a semi coherent story, with a much better presentation.
You think portal 1s like 2 hours of simple puzzles using the portal tech was enough, no need to reuse and explore the tech again, just can it.
Are you moronic>
The portal tech, along with geo mod are some of the best tech vidya devs have ever created.
Just shelving this tech to 1 game never to be used again is a crime against vidya.
I semi agree with you but when I saw the portal tech I was impressed, but when I played portal I was let down by how simple and short it was.
fortunately for me I played both games back to back first time and I could fully appreciate what they had created with portal 2.
I'm not a sperg like others above, the presentation matters very little to me, its the quality of the puzzles, and portal 1 was simple, quick and too easy.
Nah. The gels were fun and the larger scale and the setpieces were all great but Portal 2 was Black Panels: The Game. In half the puzzles the only places where you could put portals were the ones leading to a solution and all the other panels were black. In the original almost all rooms were mostly white so you actually needed to think about a solution. In Portal 2 you can stumble your way into solving a puzzle by just shooting puzzles into the three white panels in the room since that has to be part of the solution.
This question is a good litmus test for if one has a soul.
>Portal 1
Succinct exploration of its core concept. Tightly designed and written. Atmospheric, clever, memorable. Only as long as it needed to be.
>Portal 2
Remember that tedious part from the end of the first game? We made a whole heckin sequel out of it! Look at all this content! Pog at the setpieces! Chuckle at the reddit humour!
I‘m playing portal 2 right now and while the start was great the current part i‘m at where it‘s in the open in that factory is fricking garbage. The fun of the first game for me was the test chambers. Should i just drop portal 2 here or are there gonna be test chambers at some point again?
I liked portal 2 more when you were doing the challenges. Getting between rooms though ruined the game for me.
WTF is this shit.
Its a puzzle game >this puzzle is good because it is in a test chamber but this puzzle is bad because it is not in a test chamber
Lateral thinking eludes you
Low IQ cretins
It doesn't matter the presentation, its about the quality of the puzzles and the puzzles in that game increase in quality, complexity and mechanics, mainly because they eventually need lateral thinking, which clearly brainlets like you cannot do.
I didn't mind the factory basement levels and exploration, made me feel like I was playing half-life 2 again for the first time. Crazy how valve went from being lauded for including a puzzle underwater with barrels that can be solved in under thirsty seconds to making these portal games and people complaining about it. Gaming has come such a long way and continues to surprise me.
The game is split into four "acts", and it sounds like you're at the second one. The third act mixes test chambers with open-ended design, and the fourth act goes back to the pure test chambers of the first two acts.
Portal 1 is an inspired work of art. Portal 2 is a great successor if not a little forced.
Just play both. 1 is 3-5 hrs for new players and 2 can take up to 7 hrs iirc. I might play them now actually.
Ignore the fanmade mods.
Portal 2 doesn’t introduce anything new other than the gels (meh) and the coop campaign which is pretty good.
Portal 2’s story and aesthetic fricking suck (in comparison to Portal 1). It’s full of lots of little retcons and the humor is on par with the words of The Big Bang Theory or SNL (very Reddit). It’s like they got the worst of TF2’s later writing staff to pitch in. Portal 2 loses the appealing gritty and slightly scary atmosphere of Portal 1 which itself borrowed parts from Half Life 2. They also casualized it by removing harder puzzles elements like the energy pellet.
Portal 2 isnt bad per se but it’s a step down from Portal 1. Even though most of Portal 1 was tutorials Portal 2 felt dumber, and a lot of the middle and late game puzzles were just finding a single spot on a wall in a giant room. Glados isn’t scary in Portal 2 either. She’s more scary in her more lockdowned state through most of Portal 1 and especially in the boss fight where she becomes an actual intimidating psycho while dropping hints to a deeper lore (“I’m the only thing standing between us… and them”)
Overall better than most games, but can’t hold a torch in quality to Portal 1.
>Portal 2 doesn’t introduce anything new other than the gels (meh)
The gels are great. It's so satisfying to land on the blue gel to boink away. Or to spray everything with the moon gel and get to places where you couldn't normally.
The issue for me is you don’t really have much of a constraint you just spray them everywhere and win. Really only seems like there’s one puzzle with them: make a speed strip with a bounce pad part at the end.
True but I never considered any of the Portal puzzles to be particularly hard so the gels didn't make any difference when it comes to difficulty. The co-op ones could get tricky.
>It’s like they got the worst of TF2’s later writing staff to pitch in.
Other way around, Jay Pinkerton was hired from Cracked for Portal 2 and wrote blog posts and later voice lines for TF2 incidentally.
I liked Old Aperture. Minus some of the cringey Cave dialogue it has such good atmosphere and music. Plus I gotta admit that I did enjoy GlaDOS's reformation.
The first Portal is basically perfect though, so Portal 2 inherently can't be better than it.
No, Portal 2 does everything better. As usual, the tourists that plague this site will pretend that Portal 1 is better because they think that's the correct opinion to fit in.
Portal 2 aged better although some parts of it are just irritating or cringe inducing. Generally the Cave Johnson parts where even back then it broke my 12 year old self’s suspension of disbelief.
No, not at all. Portal 2 is better in evry single way.

stupid zoomer
>zoomer
You fricking moron
>look I prefer this inferior game because I am a contrarian
KYS you fricking spastic.
Portal is a zoomer game. I played portal 2 when it came out. I was 9, and I loved that shit
lol. portal 2 is most unnecessary game ever. i couldnt believe how everyone was sucking its dick when it came out. but now its rightfully forgotten at least

Portal 1 is the perfect length for the kind of game Portal is, Portal 2 is good but stretches the concept too thin
I semi agree with you but when I saw the portal tech I was impressed, but when I played portal I was let down by how simple and short it was.
fortunately for me I played both games back to back first time and I could fully appreciate what they had created with portal 2.

>when you've managed to frick yourself
portal 2 is basically reddit the game
>reddit is..LE BAD!
if you don't like this site so much
then why do you browse it?
I'm having tons of fun in co-op. I prefer the atmosphere of the first one but the second one is better when it comes to everything else.
This question is a good litmus test for if one has a soul.

It’s the worst, test chambers followed by factories. Game keeps switching between both.
WTF is this shit.

Its still a decent puzzle game, just finish it

Let me just run a quick test...
*Ahem*

Why? I like the extra puzzles.
>i like extraneous bullshit
I can't help you.
>Ignore the fanmade mods.
The time one was a lot of fun.
Arguably neither
there are better puzzle games and they don't have reddit humor through the entire game
valve games suck
Take a box, and slam the open part of it down against an orange. Does the orange fly up into the box? No, it stays on the table.
No, Portal 1 sucks ass compared to 2
Portal 2 is dogshit. First potal is minimalistic and perfect
both of them are dogshit

Portal 2 came in 2011, a year before Avengers. Its witty style of humor was really fresh at the time.
This is what Ganker considered hilarious in 2011. Tell me, which has aged worse?
Portal 2 aged better although some parts of it are just irritating or cringe inducing. Generally the Cave Johnson parts where even back then it broke my 12 year old self’s suspension of disbelief.
>he doesn't like Cave Johnson
Do you at least like his 'before it was cool' multiverse DLC?
I kinda wanna get in her aperture if you know what I mean hahaha
Yes, by a huge amount
Yes, not even a contest
The only problem Portal 1 has is that it's way too short, meanwhile Portal 2 only has co-op going for it
How smelly is her underwear?
