      Shogun + Showdown

James Clavell's Shogun created a generation of weebs, and probably popularized the word. It's great, you should watch it (the blu-ray version of it has been uploaded in full (for free) on YT, last I checked). There's also a remake of it on Netflix or something, but I can't imagine they haven't butchered it (especially the Protestants vs. Catholics parts).

That’s a cool cabinet. I never saw a SamSho 2 standalone, only saw it part of MVS cabs

I used to be late to class after lunch due to playing this game at a burger joint called Big Ed's. They specialized in making a hamburger served like a pizza. I cant recall the last arcade I played in the wild.

I think half of my game memories are just from being a kid.

Dang that sounds rad as shit. We had a local pizza hut that had a few cabs.

I just googled and there is still one location open here in OKC with a guy who looks like Ed lol. If you could eat this burger and fries in 45 minutes it used to be free.

Samurai Showdown II is my favorite for gameplay reasons as well, but man just hearing the intro with the drums and the Kabuki guy, it was probably my first "Japanese" thing that made me want to figure out what was going on over there.

Thanks, fellow OKC bro! I'm going to pay this place a visit (if it's still around), thanks to this thread.

I want to know HOW exactly I'm meant to eat this? Do you cut it with a knife or am I expected to unhinge my jaw in a Scooby Doo esque fashion to swallow it like a serpent does pray?

No sadly Ed died at 66. I guess eating pizza sized burgers probably isn't a good idea long term.

Why does that thing have 6 buttons? Neo Geos never had that.

i was perturbed at first too
to the point of almost saying "frick that i dont want it now"
but being able to map to neo cd layout on a per-game basis is comfy
also it has all the cps1&2 games kek

Apparently SNK and Unico had plans to released an improved MVSX with improved controls, better screen, better quality controls, and much more games. Basically addressing all the concerns of the first mvsx.

But SNK was pissed at Unico. They hated the 6 button layout since Neo Geo never used 6 buttons. They also accused Unico of allowing the Hylo hack mod to happen. So SNK cancelled the project. To be fair I agree. Why would they put 6 buttons for a Neo Geo? It's not authentic. Not unless Unico engineers planned on modding the cabinet from the start to play other arcade games.

            to change button mapping
            thats why the six

You don't need 6 buttons to remap. All Neo Geo games use 4 buttons.

I got an MVSX too. I actually got it as a holiday gift from the whole family and I actually like it a lot.

Why does that thing have 6 buttons? Neo Geos never had that.

I mean you can still play the classic way, I actually swapped out all my original buttons so I bet you could even get some caps or whatever easy enough to make it more authentic.

I mean I get why they'd be mad but honestly having the hylo mod be an option makes the cabinet WAY more appealing.

Plus the Arcade stick pro also had the 8 button lay out. I know that makes it more usable as an arcade stick but still.

Launchbox and the ease of playing on a 75" big screen in my living room has spoiled me.

I actually have two arcade cabinets in my garage that I just got repaired last fall. One is a Dr. Mario for my wife and the other is Star Wars upright that I bought back in college.

I found that I don't use either of them enough to warrant owning a cabinet anymore, and with a yoke controller it's really a better experience sitting in my recliner than standing at some cabinet or on a bar stool.

          >garage
I own a 6 slot Big Red Neo Geo arcade cabinet, and a Dynamo Cabinet (that has a switcher that can switch between Street Fighter and Marvel VS Capcom 2)

I originally kept them in the garage. They didn't see as much play because I didn't go into the garage as much. Out of sight, out of mind.

I moved them inside the house as an experiment, and noticed an instant change. I would play it more often because it was...there. It was easier. Walking by the Neo Geo running the attract screen and I would do quick game of Metal Slug or KoF. I keep a bowl of quarters next to the arcade machines for authenticity. I sometimes challenge myself to see how far I can go on a single quarter.

I've found that keeping inside the house makes a huge difference than keeping in the garage. When I have friends or family visit, they instantly see the arcade cabinet and want to play which is fun.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you keep your arcade machines nearby, then you will want to play them more often. Make it easier on yourself.

You are right about it being played more in the house.

I kind of burned my bridge with my wife by having a bubble hockey table in the den for literal years that didn't get much play. It was one of those Ice Chexx ones between USA and Canada and was friggin huge. She was so sick of vacuuming around it and just looking at it that I eventually sold it. If I were to try and bring a cabinet in noe (even the one I bought for her) she would just see it as a repeat. I also have a few classic cars in my garage and her car parks outside because they take her spot, so I probably better not press my luck.

Happy wife, happy life is very true.
