No. You don't really loot parts or other crap. It's more about the world and story. Some mods make the loot more like EFT I guess. Also, you can already download Stalker 2 and try it out if you have a good enough PC for Unreal Engine 5.

By default, no, it's an immersive semi open world story based shooter set in a sci-fi exclusion zone.
I'd highly recommend playing Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl.
If you want something more Tarkov-like though, you might want to try Anomaly.

It's more like Far Cry 1, mixed with System Shock 2, with a hint of Fallout.
More of an FPS than RPG, but still an SP campaign. You got freedom to proceed and act as you please and the world reacts to in realistic manner, but you always got the ultimate story goals.
STALKER also inspired pretty much ALL the 2010's "survival shooter" games, but next to none of them have the similar design and approach. Too many other games just provide pointless sandbox, where you survive for sake of survival. That gets boring very quickly.
Meanwhile, I've put 10k+ hours to each of the 3 STALKER games, with and without mods, and still get an itch to revisit them every passing year.
If it'll be your first time playing STALKER,
consult this STARTING guide, grab the vanilla SoC, and play it through with minimal mods / bug fixes.

The Analmeme and Gaymma are the new wave of MEGA mods, that indeed are nothing but EFT in SP, with tons of bloat and no purpose.
Zoomers latch on that shit because the mods were made into standalone executables, meaning they no longer need the base games, which is why there's now a ton of kids who've never played a single official STALKER GAME before.

I tried it out again last month and yes, you will notice some obvious cheating in every other match
it is only tangentially similar to tarkov, but you should play it anyway. it's one of the great pc classics, a true aesthetic masterpiece. The vanilla game is great but if you really want it to play more like tarkov the AMK mod is fantastic.

I have never played a freeplay mod.
People will get mad but it's pretty much a broken version of Far Cry 3 albeit with more soul, but honestly, just play Far Cry 2. Stalker sucks.
I liked Misery despite everyone on here being a gay about it.
Early misery mod was loads of fun, but the final iteration just felt too bloated and unnecessary.
I think 2.1 was where it peaked if I’m remembering correctly
When it came out it was novel in a silly way, but I remember preferring its predecessor I Work Alone, which I'd already been playing since it didn't make everything look like chocolate
