Aside from the usual legendary issues with recording the dialogue, some of it was mad-libbed together in post, usually from unused dialogue from other cut parts of the game. This is one of the more flagrant examples.
Mikami threw a fit when he found out people found the dialogue humorous, and if anything, it's a benefit to the game. He ensured more serious actors and recording sessions were made for 2 onwards. 2-3 are fine, but they sound like kids cartoon actors (which is what they were). Remake really doubled down on the horror and seriousness to its deteriment.
>Mikami threw a fit when he found out people found the dialogue humorous
Why is it on Ganker that I see people portray Mikami as if he was a talentless hack who did nothing to contribute to the franchise, but wasn't he a big part of why RE4 was successful?
I know he was "just" the producer, but wasn't it his say-so that allowed the project to get the late development restart and also pivot to be more action-focused?
GOOD STUFF

-Resident Evil

Yes, now you go.
They grabbed any random gaijin they could find.
Jill's actress was still in high school and did not even want to be there. It's still a mystery who she even was.
TAKE-A LOOK-AT THIS
IT'S A WEAPON
IT'S REALLY POWERFUL, ESPECIALLY AGAINST LIVING THINGS >in a zombie game >proceeds to give you grenade rifle rounds, not even a weapon
I've always had a hunch that entire conversation was originally meant for the flamethrower, and he'd hand if off to you around the guard house if you triggered this scene, and then you'd take out Plant 42 with it solo, or if it doesn't trigger, he still has it, and subsequently saves you with himself, as actually happens in the game.
TAKE-A LOOK-AT THIS

IT'S REALLY POWERFUL, ESPECIALLY AGAINST LIVING THINGS >in a zombie game >proceeds to give you grenade rifle rounds, not even a weapon
No, it's just garbled. The Acid Rounds are a fantasy weapon, and on top of being a grenade it explodes with an acid that would in fact be dangerous for a living creature.
It's just an Engrish way of trying to say that these are more than ordinary ammo, and it's extra-deadly.
I've read somewhere in the last 20+ years that there was an event planned where you'd play Barry and get the flamethrower from the Arms room in the basement to save Jill from the plant. Basically a counterpart to Rebecca mixing the V Jolt. No idea why it didn't make it into the game though.
The DVD extra of RE1 GCCX is pretty cool, the show's cameraman was a part of the filming for the intro. Apparently he got in trouble for trying to steal one of the handgun props later kek

Close. He later worked for the company that filmed that segment, and once learning that he tried to steal some of the original props but was caught. Crazy shit is that these original costumes and props are likely lost to time. I'm sure Capcom themselves would have loved to keep them, and they'd be perfect to display at the Biohazard Cafe (if it's still up).
The voice actors weren't the same as the live action people. Chris was a radio DJ and some of the others did voiceovers for commercials and things like that.
Barry's VA sounds fine in his handful of other roles as an in-flight announcer, every ounce of camp from him is because the (non-english speaking) voice directors though it sounded better that way. Now, Richard on the other hand, I can't blame the nips for that one, what the unholy frick.
Barry's VA went on to become a principal in Australia, and as such, he would be on the PA for announcements. Students told him he sounded like Barry from Resident Evil, and lo and behold. He didn't know what RE was, he just signed up for some quick gig.
It's shocking/weird that this game could sell 5 million copies, but the VA and actors would have no clue. That there's millions of people looking at you, or magazines all over the world with your face in it. Even now thousands and thousands of online videos and playthroughs.
Wesker's VA Pablo explained in one of the interviews a few years ago that it was common back then to not even be told the name of the game you were doing voices on; the words "Biohazard" or "Resident Evil" were never mentioned, so they had no way of finding out the dumb little game about some SWAT dudes stuck in a house full of monsters they worked on was the same thing as the media juggernaut it eventually became many years later.
IIRC they tracked down Enrico's VA too at some point, and he genuinely doesn't recall even doing it at all, like "Yeah, that's definitely my voice, and I worked with Capcom that year, but I have no idea what this is".
Enrico has so few lines, it would definitely just be handing him a page when he's doing another game and just asking if he can line read it right then and there. He might have done several games that day.
The time he spent recording his RE lines might have been not much more than the actual cutscene, so it's not crazy he wouldn't remember 6 minutes of his life 25 years ago.
Barry's VA went on to become a principal in Australia, and as such, he would be on the PA for announcements. Students told him he sounded like Barry from Resident Evil, and lo and behold. He didn't know what RE was, he just signed up for some quick gig.

This made me want to search up the live actions models and this was the first video that popped up interestingly enough;
>the voice acting in the original Resident Evil used to be Japanese but it was considered so bad that they got English voice actors to do it over
I've been playing these games as far back as the PS1 and I still learn new things every now and then
Speaking of shit that was so terrible it needed to be replaced, look up the original J-pop opening and credits themes that they trashed immediately after the first printing run of the game.
It's so great. It's pure 90's Japan to have a pop uplifting music at the end. Re1 has a lot of these weird design choices that they ironed out later. Even RE2 has this funk song for some reason for credits music?
Still Dawn is 80's action movie gold though, I wouldn't trade it for anything; I hate that later versions switched it out, there's got to be at least different end credit songs for RE1 depending on version.
That was pretty common for the kind of American horror movies RE was inspired by too. Like how Arachnophobia has a Jimmy Buffet song over the end credits.
That's what I thought as well but it's weird to me. Why is it in the lowest tier? Hell, it's not just in the lowest tier, it's the lowest entry in the entire chart. I thought he point of icebergs was that things get more obscure/unknown the lower they are.
Either that or the one in 2 where zombies attack during the door animation.
I was just presuming as well, if the charts not bullshit I'd love an explanation. the kitchen door in REmake is pretty spooky as well
while the threads still up I'll share the greatest RE glitch
Nah, I know things as far down as tier 11, and nothing in there strikes me as blatantly made up either. It has none of that "DO NOT RESEARCH" or "Every RE game is personalized" nonsense like most icebergs have. And the creator of the iceberg was very open to people contacting him so that he could answer any questions about the entries. I don't think someone would put the spotlight on themselves like that if it were fake.
Can any of you please try to explain these in a video. I promise I will like comment and subscribe.
I don't know everything on the chart, but I can try to create a document to explain everything that I do know, and other people can fill in the gaps for things I missed. I really want to see it get fully explained as well. It seems like a really high effort iceberg compared to most of the ones people make.
its made up by a deviantart user. if you google some of the terms it will bring to posts asking for explanations. so far no one has been able to contact the image creator
Can't take away what they already made... or can they? Rebecca's costumes in the HD version are something else. It pisses me off how her arms clip through the nurse dress though.
I might be wrong, but in both versions if you sit there and keep plinking the little wasps for awhile eventually huge badass wasps that do about as much damage as a Hunter slash start spawning to frick you up. I luckily had a nearby save in the PC version so I just grabbed a quick screenshot of them.
i hate remakes but seeing from capcom's perspective i kinda get it
i feel like re1, cvx and 5 are like the "chris vs wesker trilogy", meanwhile the average RE fan today probably doesn't even know that chris was the "main guy" in the older titles (he's not present in re2 or 3 but is still the main reason claire went to racoon city and during re3 there's many mentions of jill, barry and chris going after umbrella, including their endings)
That scene is really fricking weird. Someone on /vr/ said there's some evidence in the files that fighting Yawn there was a last minute addition. And I think their conversation is mostly stitched together from other voice clips.
To this day the cutscene where you walk into the closet and get sprayed by her and Chris is just like "W O A H! what is it!?" and then her "Oh! Oh no!" is the funniest few seconds of any game for me.
RE2 got a different jap or hafu to translate the script but a few mistakes slip in through the cracks. I always found it charming background artists misspelled Emergency as "Emergencey" on the police vans and in the Umbrella lab.
No More Heroes 3 also has a few odd translation bits like in OP.
>Phone rings >"Travis, it's me." >"Sylvia? Is that you??"
Or later on.
>"Yeah, don't kill him too quickly." >"Ooooh a quick kill! How exciting." >Conversation ends
What I found confusing was when a friend told me that Billy Cohen was circumcised because of his surname but then he also said Chris Redfield was circumcised too. Sorry can someone explain what they meant with that?
YOU WERE ALMOST A JIGGLE SANDWICH
I always heard it as "jibble"
Same. It was always "Jibble" for me
Aside from the usual legendary issues with recording the dialogue, some of it was mad-libbed together in post, usually from unused dialogue from other cut parts of the game. This is one of the more flagrant examples.

This guy unironically has the best voice performance out any character in the original trilogy
https://vocaroo.com/13K0YtRNXWIb
having his scene right at the start makes it even more effective too, really sells the feeling of collapse.
>Mikami threw a fit when he found out people found the dialogue humorous

nobody said anything about 4 or the rest of the franchise
>I know he was "just" the producer
No he was the director.
Why are you morons incapable of looking shit up? It takes literal seconds.
Sorry, I was lazy and not super invested in being correct.

Yes, now you go.
>they actually modeled the entire room, and ew can see it from multiple angles in cutscenes
>it's not just some 2D drawing they made
Correct; all the backgrounds in RE1-3 were high-poly (for the time) 3D scenes that were then converted to 2D backdrops.
Did you just learn how prerendered graphics work?
They were sometimes 2D drawings.
Mostly, but they also drew on some elements with several layers.
til diablo 2 was a full 3d game moved to 2d
on a semi related note, look up how they did the market place in ocarina of time. its kinda neat.
>in an area overlooking the forest
IT'S FOREST
OH MY COD!
It's like they were trying to make the dialogue seem moronic.
They grabbed any random gaijin they could find.

WOAH WHAT IS IT?
Jill's voice actress was adorable.
RE1 zombies are apparently not dead, due to the strain the brain basically rot as well as the whole body.Raccoon city zombies are indeed dead corpses
I always wondered if that line was leftover from an earlier script when the game still had ghosts.

Chris's voice actor was also Richter in SOTN. He died in a car crash in 2000.

no that was the live action actor Greg, the VA was from Norway believe or not

i really like this shot
Eric Harris vibes. 90s was a hell of a drug.
Also Rebecca such a good girl I named my first daughter after her.
This made me want to search up the live actions models and this was the first video that popped up interestingly enough;
I feel like we're having a SECRET MEETING :3
I would have respected Billy more if he had really done it.
Pablo Kuntz has a kino voice and even kind of looks like Wesker. He deals in expensive antique Japanese swords and stuff now.
He's cool as hell, forcing his turbo-zoomer son to play through RE1 for him was hilarious.

Pretty sure most of it is made up nonsense.
i dont belive so, i recognized quite a few of them

Shameful.

smarr indie game prease understand
If they ever make a remake of RE1 (again) it wouldn't surprise me if Rebecca meets Jill at some point.

A completely new game in the style of the old ones.
yeah i doubt we will ever get something like that officially
at least theres indies like alisa and signalis...
it really fricking sucks that it will never happen. biorand scratches that itch for me, though.

HAVE YOU FOUND ANYTHING INTERESTING
That scene is really fricking weird. Someone on /vr/ said there's some evidence in the files that fighting Yawn there was a last minute addition. And I think their conversation is mostly stitched together from other voice clips.
I was warned RE6 was a bad game but I played it anyway and now I'm mad how can this be happening to me??
>Not liking RE6
How could bad taste be happening to you?
Not a glitch, but this is one of my favorite things most people probably never see.
huh didn't know that can happen, there's no reason to go to that room once let alone twice IIRC, just a few herbs there
The way they make you waste shotgun ammo is infuriating
>switches to the handgun to save a shell knowing it only has like 1 HP left

wtf Barry
It will always amuse me how much of an IQ filter tank controls are.
I was like 10 when I first played RE2 and had a blast
I don't remember if I finished it but nonetheless, it was fun and scary as frick back then
What I found confusing was when a friend told me that Billy Cohen was circumcised because of his surname but then he also said Chris Redfield was circumcised too. Sorry can someone explain what they meant with that?
