Gameplay-wise it's the game that introduces ATB but it's also the single poorest game of the original six, zero customization or player agency whatsoever, fixed parties are the nail in the coffin.
It is also the game that signals the shift towards storyhomosexualry compared to the NES trilogy, which was way more focused on the gameplay side of things.
recently been playing the snes version for the first time. just arrived on the moon. the difficulty spike at the end is worse than dq2. story is worse than dq4/5. shit game. ff only started getting good with 5 imo.
In my opinion Rydia should've stayed a little girl after getting taken by Levaithan, that way Cecil and Rosa could've adopted her as their daughter. Plus we would still get older tiddy monster Rydia in After Years so it's the best of both worlds.
Cecil turning into a Paladin and getting a completely new sprite and moveset is still one of the best moments in the series. Games just don't do cool hype stuff like this anymore.

I've played Ultima Edition. It's actually a fun mod, but be warned that the dev takes a few creative liberties. Nothing on par with Brave New World, but you'll be seeing some interesting changes from vanilla, like new bosses, tweaked bosses, and crossover bosses from other FF games.
Just started FFV for the first time after enjoying FFIV. My biggest complaint was it started to draw on pretty hard during the Lunar Subterrane but I guess that's expected.
ffv has fricking awesom job combinations, it really loves seeing you experiment
I'll throw you a bone for a pretty goddamn effective early game combo level knight so you get the 2 hand ability so you have your attack doubled if you dont use a shield. transfer this trait to berserker, who already has frick huge damage so its damage is even fricker huger since they use battle axes which are 2 hand weapons by default.
really experiment around, ffv is my favorite final fantasy
