Is the era of indie games over? In the 2010s there were so many games being made by individual people or small 3 man teams that were incredibly innovative and fun with tons of soul but now "indie" is just a massive industry of companies with huge marketing budgets churning out the same formulaic garbage over and over again trying to get rich by appealing to twitch streamers and casuals. What happened to game developers with passion who want to make something actually good? The last game with the kind of spirit behind it was Baba is You almost 5 years ago.
You just don't play games. There are more and more high quality indie games coming out every single year.
>EAslop that's never going to be finished
>muh retro shooter # 12532431
frick off
EA is moronic in the sense its just a way to release the game before completion with no hate
but theres no reason to inherently hate EA unless the game genuinely sucks at the present
>muh unfinished
but what if, even unfinished, it has more substance and unique qualities than the rest of the genre?
>muh scam
Dont buy EA for the future. Buy EA for what is already present. consider everything else a major free bonus
>muh defending shit games and practices
If the EA game is shit and half assed with a promise to be better later, dont play it lmao
Treat it the same as any other game, buy it if its good
Early access games should be free since you're doing the beta testing for them. Only that would make it acceptable.
Play a game that doesnt make you feel like youre beta testing
If it isn't beta testing then why is it an early access game?
It's trolling. OP literally posted minecraft as an example which was in EA for years.
Trepang is based off of FEAR which I really wouldn't call "retro" unless you just mean "anything kind of old" as retro. It's not a boomer shooter like Dusk.
>factorio clone #162738382
This is the kind of shit I’m taking about. It’s just endless formulaic clones of the same concept and the only thing that differentiates them is which one spent the most money on marketing. That’s not how it used to be. People were making actual innovative games and everyone would take notice because of how good a game was. Minecraft had a marketing budget of $0 when it became popular.
Yeah, you don't play games.
fpbp. Ironically, the people who complain about how "true indies" don't exist anymore and about how all indie games nowadays are published by companies with huge marketing budgets, are the same people who only play and care about games with a huge marketing budget.
Trepang2 was indie, wasn’t it. It reviewed pretty well and I really liked it.
yeah, I think that's evident from all the zoomers that grew up on these games experiencing nostalgia for them now
Indie games will always be around as long as there are enough white people not distracted by their phones to develop their mind to code.
too bad everyone born after 1990 isn't white.
>The last game with the kind of spirit behind it was Baba is You almost 5 years ago
Guy that made Baba Is You also worked on Noita, which is 100% pure Finnish soul
homie the best games are being made in roblox and fortnite and minecraft
you're just an old homosexual that didn't adapt
no, moron
>ultrakill
>baba is you
>hollow knight/silksong
>intravenous
just play videogames
you forgot
>teardown
>hypercharge unboxed
>rain on your parade
>roboquest
>midnight fight express
>synthetik
>minion masters
>splitgate
>intruder
>fashion police squad
>stealth bastard
>door kickers
>neon white
>due process
There's still unique indie games the problem is there's too many indies now. For every unique original indie there's 100 doom clones and 1000 vampire survivor clones.
If only there was a way to sort games by a "rating" of some sort or maybe by order of release. Unfortunately we can't do this, and will never be able to.
I blame steam getting rid of greenlight. It really kept all that shit at bay but then gaben turned into a israelite who just wanted to make more money by opening the floodgates of shovelware.
Greenlight was fricking broken from the start and really, really easy to abuse. There was nearly as much shovelware on the platform with greenlight as there is without.
>It really kept all that shit at bay

I also love history revisionism.
battlebit came out recently and this board launched a coordinated shitposting attack against it because it threatened their precious battlefield 1.
Black person what? the AAA downfall is right now, the era is not over, it's only getting started
>Is the era of indie games over?
no,
you just need right guys releasing right games at right time,
for indies a red flag of a bad shitty game is it being an allegory for depression, and all "diversity" bullshit
Baba is You looks unnappealing and not fun to me. Not very innovative either, games that were based around programming logic have existed before. Stop with this cult already.
