It's extremely dated and a true dungeon crawler rpg. The story and music are good, but the random encounter rates are ridiculous. Innocent sin psp is a solid improvement, however the only way to play eternal punishment is piracy. Many will say go straight to 3 as that's what changed the series forever much like GTA 3 or FFVII. Overall I think it's worth a play if you want to consume all things persona.
Didn't play PS1 persona 1, but I did play PSP and it felt pretty damn high still. Thank god for auto battle, but frick your life if you have your character set to something that gets countered and nukes your party.
this is what gets me. you never say GTA gays try to force people to play 1 and 2, why is the case with persona? I guess cause it's niche?
Just stating that those games were what changed their series. My autistic ass usually prefers to play games in order regardless of cohesion. The early GTAs are also very difficult to find and play.
>enough that people ended up underleveled?
SQQ I ended up badly underleved by the time I got to the last boss due to getting lucky in navigating the dungeons. If you worry about being under leveled, keep all you dudes but MC dead and just solo it with him since XP gets split by amount of alive party members.
No specially when you have to deal with the shit negotiation system that game has and the story isn’t great no matter what reddit and twitter tells you.
in fact I am pretty sure most idiots pretend to like 2 because they can make the mc gay in innocent sin and not for any other reason and taking into account that the same people that shill 2 also shill femc route in p3p as the best thing ever, I don’t think I am wrong.
1 and 2 have a great atmosphere to them but their gameplay sucks ass. Slow combat, obnoxiously high encounter rates, imbalanced mechanics, unsatisfying demon fusion/recruitment systems, etc. 3/4/5 don't have incredible gameplay but they're at least serviceable.
It's good, but it's completely different from 3 onwards and the formula isn't going to revert any time soon
If you're more interested in dungeon crawling and SMT than social stuff, start with 1, otherwise go to FES (or 4G or 5R, the later games are more self-contained so it doesn't really matter)
I've been played the PSP version with Music restoration and HD mods. Been pretty fun so far. Refreshing not having to deal with all the social shit the later games are full of
1 has the most personal and low stakes story that doesn’t devolved into save the world with the power of friendship and is an okay dungeon crawler.
So if the game intrigues you in any way play it specially since there is no 40 hs of cutscenes or bad gameplay to stop you from getting shit done, something that can’t be said about the sequels.
1 is the only one worth playing. 3-5 simulate friendship+social lives for pathetic losers who should just end it all before they start abducting and impregnating highschoolers like the unwanted freaks they are
Skip to 3. Play portable though, the PS2 versions dont allow you to control your characters. And in a game with combat as brutal as persona where you can get 1hit KO'd and 1hit Game Over'd at every step of the way - leaving your character battle commands up to AI is insanity.
Eternal Punishment is basically a remake of Innocent Sin intended for western audiences. It assumes you haven't played Innocent Sin, because if you have, you already know what the entire plot is from the get-go and there's really nothing new there for you since the plot is the same but they find-and-replaced "Hitler" with "New World Order".
The PSX version has an amazing soundtrack and atmosphere but the combat is atrocious and slow. Also it's missing content and the localization is terrible.
The PSP version has the missing content and fixed localization, also the combat is a bit faster but the remade music is absolute trash.
On both games "talking" is shitty and slow, which is the way to obtain cards.
go straight to 3FES
ignore hipsters and contrarians
Straight to 3 of course
Straight to 3. "Persona started at 3" isn't a lie.
No, play 1 and 2-1 and 2-2. Don't listen to zoomer fake fans.

I haven't played 1 yet, but didn't the PSP drastically reduce the encounter rate, enough that people ended up underleveled?
>drastically reduced encounter rate
Man the PS1 version must've been a living hell, the PSP encounter rate is still pretty nuts
Didn't play PS1 persona 1, but I did play PSP and it felt pretty damn high still. Thank god for auto battle, but frick your life if you have your character set to something that gets countered and nukes your party.

cringe nerd

Persona 2 is the best one.
No specially when you have to deal with the shit negotiation system that game has and the story isn’t great no matter what reddit and twitter tells you.

do you want a dungeon crawl RPG or do you want a high school dating sim with an RPG attached?
1 and 2 have a great atmosphere to them but their gameplay sucks ass. Slow combat, obnoxiously high encounter rates, imbalanced mechanics, unsatisfying demon fusion/recruitment systems, etc. 3/4/5 don't have incredible gameplay but they're at least serviceable.
1 is the best, followed by 2-2, followed by the Q games, followed by 2-1, followed by 4, followed by 3, followed by 5.
It's good, but it's completely different from 3 onwards and the formula isn't going to revert any time soon

1 and 2 are very interesting games but i would struggle to call them "good". Nothing wrong with going to 3.
it's good but it might as well be an entirely separate franchise from 3 onward
I've been played the PSP version with Music restoration and HD mods. Been pretty fun so far. Refreshing not having to deal with all the social shit the later games are full of
Go to 3, if you need to ask which one to start with then 1&2 aren't for you.
Skip all of them.

3 and on have a completely different team. The only similarity is that it focuses on people finding themselves.
Forget 1 and duology, Persona started at 3

P3P is garbage and the game isn't balanced at all around full party control. Besides, party tactics adds another level of thinking and strategizing.
>filtered by tactics
I always thought that the persona fanbase was moronic. With all these "persona started at 3" comments, I guess things make more sense.
Play 1 with a guide. Don't put all your points into Agility on the protagonist because it becomes impossible to level anyone else up.
Play Innocent Sin, skip Eternal Punishment because Eternal Punishment is only good if you haven't played Innocent Sin.
>skip Eternal Punishment because Eternal Punishment is only good if you haven't played Innocent Sin.
Why do you say that?
