Is the MMO genre just a zombie genre at this point?
These 4 games pretty much dominate the genre and are all over a decade old.

What game is this?
Tower of fantasy and it's actually pretty fun. All of the girls have fantastic butts.
Isn't FF14 and OSRS the big two? Why isn't OSRS on there?
OSRS being added would only further prove the genre is basically dead and on maintenance mode.
Are there really people who only stick to one genre of video game?
Most people, yeah. If you're more open to different genres, you're the exception. Welcome to the casualization of vidya, though we've been here for 7 years.
MMOs are possibly an outlier in the sense that most of them demand hundreds or even thousands of hours or your time.
Yes. There's a benefit to only playing one video game (or type of video game) since it saves you money from not having to buy games that end up being shit
New World is unironically better than all of those.
I'm not saying it's great, I'm saying all those are worse.
New World was amazing for the first 2 weeks. Shame the game is so shallow after that, if it had a competent team behind it, it might have dominated MMO today.
I'm still playing, but man it really lost it's charm quickly.
The reward of an MMO is reflected by the time spent/money spent, not skill. The reward is based purely off the time invested in the game, so everyone who has stuck around for a decade wants to rope in new people to show off their decade of investment. No body new has an interest in starting old MMOs and new ones fail because the mentally ill people that actually enjoy this formula feel vulnerable in a new game, where everyone is on equal footing. In short, stop making MMOs and let the freaks continue to waste their time trying to rope you into playing wow for FF, so they can show off their mount or title or whatever.
sadly
Of those 4 I only played GW2 and WoW, but the grind stopped being fun when you're saving the world for the 12th time. The story doesn't need to be great but the story there was not serviceable.
I want a new MMO that is fun with a reasonable story, and as said the reward is based on the time spent, so if it fails after a year or doesn't have a long-term goal then its worthless.
pretty sad someone will spend 10 years grinding a game all so they can idle next to me in a major city and never interact with me for the rest of my time playing.
>GW2
kek, OSRS has more players than GW2 even after the steam release.
GW2 steam release is literally 2 days old.
It's kinda what's bound to happen to a genre that survives on the player's sunken cost.
come home white man
there is only a holy duo and they are ragnarok online and maplestory
the actual holy trinity is ultima online, everquest, and asheron's call. there's a reason they were called the Big Three
Everquest 2 is better than all of these, tho.
these all fricking suck, Sword Art Online when
For now yes. It could change depending on what the Riot MMO will be.
Yes, not a single mmo released in the last 16 years had any kind of improvement to the formula or original idea.
>see new DUNE game announced
>it's a fricking MMO
>go full CHOAM and make phat stacks all day
Might be cool.
At this point I feel like every exec wants a cool MMO to play but they have no idea how to make one so they just throw money at whatever they own and tell their employees to make one.
The human male regardless of income just wants a comfy MMO to play, women cannot understand.
