Ngl I played D3's season 2 and the mechanic is everything a PoE mechanic should be. A portal in your map with a series of maps with increasing difficulty and rewards with a larger reward at the end. Actually drops good gear, good to do while levelling and not a full blown side activity just something that complements the gameplay.
PoEs leagues fricking suck because they're constantly trying to make a mini-game in the game and half of the time they're so obtuse and unrewarding that no one even bothers with them until endgame and for some leagues you might as well ignore them altogether. PoE needs to go back to Blight or Ritual, something you find in a map thats actually worth doing. No I dont want to play your gay little autobattler I want to kill monsters and get loot.

Boneshatter is mechanically (actual combat) terrible, mechanically (stat scaling) amazing, and conceptually awful. It's just a basic attack that hurts you, scales up the more you hurt yourself, and has an AoE on stun (but stun is currently shit and unreliable due to a common Map mod).

I've made a new build every league, funded it using casual play over a week or two (like never more than two hours of gameplay per day) and always 38/40'd each league. I use either a different farming method each time or primarily farm the league mechanic.

spec expedition, craft with rog, farm essences, learn how to block mods, learn where div cards drop if you need hyper specific items or easy bases, and learn all the batshit ways you can craft a single item.

Do you need random generic rares? Go expedition and essence. (rog crafting + tujen for currency for bench crafting)
Do you need base items? Go run whatever drops them. Be it heist, or guardian maps or hell, even kirac missions.
The point of SSF is to be able to recognize what item you need, and then find the best way to obtain it.
If you want a good minion wand, running maps is pointless. Spec into delve, and get some 4 sockets+fossils. It does not take long and its a 1/12 chance to get a decent +2 minion wand. Rog can also get you +2 minion helmets quite often.
Thats just an example. Don't play SSF if you need someone to tell you what to do, you should find it fun to figure it out yourself.

while i do agree that unique drop rates are aids and i think div cards should be MORE target farmable, poe is a game that is built around rare items, the best items in the game are rare items, and farming currency to craft has literally never been easier, crafting is also 100x more deterministic than it's ever been. again i don't think the itemization in poe is bad, it's just the barrier to entry with how weak the vast majority of gems are is the real problem.

Just white T14s+ with an alva sextant for a whooping 5c investment and essence sextant for another 5c each per 4 maps so a total cost of whooping 4.5c per map or was it 5.5 i don't remember if essence was 2c on the map device or 3c.

its the best if you just want to go through campaign and beat a few maps. Almost every other arpg i played is super easy/boring and i dont care if the endgame is better in them if it takes 4-5 hours to get to it.
Lost ark for example i played for over an hour and used health potions like 1 time vs 1 boss and i never felt like i was in danger i was just right clicking mobs then inspecting loot and theory crafting builds, but builds for what? endgame after like 5-10 hours? and in the meantime im playing loot piniata clicker with no sense of danger or character progression because i 1shot everything.
Diablo 4 got this right but it has mmo style quests and shitty story elements that ruin it.

The game is decent even if you are new but its not something I see myself doing every day for years and years like most of its players. Definitely will try PoE 2 when it comes out
