Xenosaga was great of you wanted the Phantasy Star tone but with actual voice acting and cool cutscenes, and no MMO grinding either unfortunately both Phantasy Star and Xeno went to shit when New Genesis and Xenoblade came into being. Either way they were basically peers in tone and sci-fi aesthetic

PS is its own narrative progression. Xeno is a series of games that try to mash multiple sub genres of sci-fi like a fever dream.
