I haven't kept up with GPUs since I built my PC like four years ago and I've always used nvidia cards, but the Radeon absolutely fricking kills it. I've spent years hearing of AMD cards with severe optimization issues in lots of games. Is it actually that bad, or is it just a meme? I'm in quite the pickle here. Help me out AMDbros i need to play Space Skyrim

the driver issue was a thing in like 2006 that nvidishills latched on to and have always used as a coping mechanism for paying twice as much for half the performance
    modern AMD is coming fine

No, AMD has driver issues pretty much every generation. The 5700 XT was a mess and the 7000 series has high idle power consumption.

Was true until a few driver updates ago, it was especially bad with dual high refresh monitors

It's more like 100 $ or € more on your bill at the end of the year compared to a 220w card. Assuming 6 hours a day. Push it to 12 hours a day you double that.

If you want a high end card, you have to deal with high power draw. What the frick did you expect? More electrons makes framerate more gooder.

Don't know. Nvidia has always been better and Linux drivers work without any gentooing like AMD requires.

What are you talking about, you fricking moron? AMD's Linux drivers are literally built into the kernel and just work out of the box on every distro. Nvidia's Linux drivers are a fricking nightmare and missing a ton of functionality versus the Windows ones. You can't even undervolt.

      none of them

why the frick do you need a benchmark?
the best benchmark is just emulation because it tests your system through pure brute force and not some shitty code and it actually matters because you want to emulate

I'm done with these meme huge graphics cards these few generations keep producing. From now on it's dual fan models or smaller.

    >Can't close case because gfx card's don't allow space for 8 pin connectors so I have to run an open case or buy a vertical mount
    >Future gen cards will have an option to power the cards via a new Motherboard slot instead of the old 8 pins

Also frick GPU whine at framerates above 60 fps. Idk why no one ever talks about this but these new generations of cards are loud, dump way too much heat, and block airflow due to size.

I agree that the performance uplift is pretty pathetic, but they also have no reason to lower the price when the competition at that point is the fricking 16gb 4060ti.

        >AMD has no reason to lower the price

If only they had some great feature on Radeon which was unavailable on GeForce, but right now they only have more VRAM which is great but your average homosexual will still buy nV no matter what.
If AMD doesn't care about DIY PC market they can keep doing what they are doing.
I would like to see how much they are earning from all those mobile and console SoCs.
And I own RDNA3 GPU because frick nV, but RT performance and upscaling quality is far behind.

I am talking specifically about the $500 price point, which is by far the one in which AMD is most favored at the moment. The 6800XT assrapes the 4060TI 16gb into oblivion.

            Anonymous

Sure, there is no point in buying 4060Ti at all 8GB or 16GB. nV right now has 2 cards 4070 at $600 and 4090 at $1500 anything else is waste of money at MSRP.

I recently upgraded from a Nvidia card to an AMD and it was a bit of a mess to get it working. Took like 10 tries to get the AMD drivers working without it blue screening windows every 5 minutes. The trick, if you can call it a trick, is that I had to update the chip set after running DDU but before running the adrenaline installer and only after disabling the firewall and antivirus. Now everything works, but it should not have been such a headache.

I had an issue with windows 10 installing old drivers over the ones I tried to install, can't really blame AMD for that one though

Go look up how to enable it in your BIOS if you haven't, AMD cards benefit a lot from it. Also Smart Access Memory if you also have an AMD CPU.

7900 XTX, has the same rasterization performance, downside of worse RT and upscaling, upside of being cheaper by 160+ USD.

I have two computers, one 3060ti the other a 6700xt.
    From my experience AMD:
    >has better performance per dollar than Nvidia
    >runs better in games meant for consoles due to them also having AMD architecture
    >has a better control application (Adrenalin) than Nvidia
    >has slightly more technical issues (like drivers not playing well with dual monitors or night mode, or having to reset undervoltages every time you restart) but nothing too serious
    >has a history of running hot and driver issues (though in my experience the RX6xxx and RX7xxx series don't have these issues any more or less than Nvidia!)
    >lacks luxurious gimmicks like DLSS/DLAA/DLDSR/Reflex/AI - don't underestimate these but if you just want pure rasterization than this won't matter to you
    >has a much better sharpening tool than Nvidia
    >not currently as good in terms of power efficiency
AMD cards are good now if you're price conscious and want the best bang for buck. The 6700xt and 6800xt are both much better deals at their current prices than their Nvidia counterparts. Dunno about the 7000 series yet it's too early, but the 7600 is meh and I'd skip it.
I also have to warn you Starfield will run like shit. It does run slightly better on AMD cards due to their different bandwidth being a big advantage in Bethesda games, but it still doesn't run good. I got my 6700xt in a bundle with Starfield and it runs pretty poorly on it (though clearly better than 3060ti that gets murdered by the draw calls)

Thank you anon for the detailed response. This was the answer I was looking for. I'm definitely leaning towards the Radeon. If there's any issues, I'll at least be expecting them. The headache I might have to go through is surely worth $200 in savings.

Never buy AMD if you ever plan on doing any emulation.

How do you mean? Do radeons play well with Dolphin, at least?
