Honestly I have no issues with soldering a modchip. I have issues with the fricking price. I'd grab it instead of something like an AYN Loki Mini if it wasn't so goddamn fricking pricey.
Pretty sure it's been stagnant. At this point you either have an old model that can be hacked or you don't hack it. There is a method for newer models but you need to open it up and solder a chip that I don't even think they sell anymore because the company who made it had its higher ups arrested.
as in, they are not being fabricated anymore so the price of the ones currently in the market rises.
I guess, I'm not saying they aren't justified but it's really a tough sell. It's not like the switch is an amazingly powerful console and the market is now filling with more and more handhelds that might surpass it except for switch specific games.
Why would you want to do anything with a Switch besides play Switch games? It's a garbage tablet
Nintendo can't patch the hack, so there's really not much to it. You just update your CFW whenever you want to update to the latest FW
You can ask the same question about any hacked console. Because it's cool from a development standpoint to get everything you can out of a machine and for the users, it's cool to have more stuff to do with the console you bought? Why would I buy a 400+ $€£ gaming tablet when I have a Switch?
>Why would I buy a 400+ $€£ gaming tablet when I have a Switch?
Why did you buy a Switch when you had a Vita or a PSP or some other handheld prior to it that was just as hackable? The philosophy of being able to do what you want with the hardware you own is fine, but the Switch has been cracked for years; there's no real forward progress to be made, and you were given a clear reason why that's the case.
checkpoint for managing saves and dealing with weird games like the new sports game
some of the modules that enable third party controllers & overclocking, should come by default
Don't know, I stopped caring when I was using reinx and had to keep my switch battery loaded all the time to avoid trapping myself into a corner. I uninstalled the shit and restored my nand.
Is this shit fixed now? I still have my hackable switch.

People just might want the improved version. Or even the lite that most people recommended against grabbing. I honestly despise the fact if I bought a switch I'd have to grab different nunchucks because of the shit non-dpad.
I meant the joycons, I don't know what I was thinking. I'd rather not have something that's uncomfortable to use on portable mode. I already have a gamepad that works on switch if I have it docked.
>People just might want the improved version.
Not the issue here. As a general rule if someone wants to hack their switch and if that's a big deal to them then they are not going to give that up because of a version that has 2 more hours of battery life. Nobody is this moronic. People are just having difficulties getting their hands on old models for a fair price.
So it would make things more difficult unless there's an obvious way of checking that a random person that doesn't care about how valuable a switch is selling it for cheap is going to sell you a good model. I guess it's been a thing with consoles for a long time now. I'm still trying to find a fat DS with the DS lite screens.

You can check if an old model switch is patched or not by its serial number. Sometimes that shows in one of the pictures the person posts at the page where they're selling their switch (ebay or whatever) and sometimes not. If it doesn't people have to send a message to the seller asking for the last 4 digits of the serial so they can go and check.
If the seller specifically knows about piracy and is using that as a selling point they will make sure to show the serial to back it up.

The dumbest thing is my friend got himself two switches for peanuts (somehow he got away with it) that can be modded by his on account and he's not letting them go for cheap. How good or bad are these at emulation?

>How good or bad are these at emulation?
Everything up to and including 4th gen plays perfectly. >PS1
Great. >Sega Saturn
Kinda iffy but you can use the Saturn emulator in Cotton Force Guardian to good effect, quite a few frames of input delay though. >Sega Dreamcast
Surprisingly great, graphics intense stuff like Soul Calibur will need some overclocking but stuff like Sonic Adventure works fine. >Nintendo 64
Bad without overclocking for most games, though the N64 Online emulator is near enough flawless it's got some funky button mapping that you can't change afaik. >GB/GBC/GBA
All perfect. >GameCube
You can run Android on your Switch then install Dolphin and it works surprisingly well. >Nintendo DS
Good but some games require overclocking. >PSP
Pretty great, minor slowdown on some games though.

GBA emulation works with gyro so you can play WarioWare Twisted and that Kirby tilt game using your controller or Switch in handheld mode and it works as intended. >3DS
The dev only releases the Retroarch core to his patrons via discord and work on it is glacial, I hear the performance leaves a lot to be desired too since it requires a lot of overclocking.
There are youtube videos around though if you want to see for yourself whether its worth donating.
Personally I don't think it'll ever be particularly good.
Are normies aware of the value of a old model switch?? on my country i got a second hand one for like half the price of a new one and came with 3 games and 2 extra hdmi cables
I have a launch Switch
I played with homebrew for like a month then went back to using the Switch normally.
I just like physical games too much. Especially my physical weeb games.
I did pirate overpriced shit like Link's Awakening though
Elechead recently got ported, it's a fun little Japanese indie-puzzle game.
Portal port is nice too I guess if for some reason you haven't played it before.
I think it's more that I think I already played all the exclusives I wanted to on it and have a PC for everything else. Also nothing that scratches the itch on the console at the moment.
Should I hack my Switch, or just start emulating shit instead if I have a good PC? People always jerk off Switch emulation, but is it really that good?
No, there isn't any new exploit and the only choices are a 5 y/o switch or a hard to solder modchip.
>a hard to solder modchip
You're not more incompetent, than a Black person, are you?
i'm a Black person that posts on Ganker
>A $300 modchip to hack a $300 console by soldering directly to the CPU
Five social credits have been deposited to your account.
What are the chances that the chip receives a functional $5 bootleg alternative?
Is the chip really that expensive?
yes 🙁
Post your own video, that guy takes up to 10 minutes to make 4 soldering points. He seems to do it for a living too.
Honestly I have no issues with soldering a modchip. I have issues with the fricking price. I'd grab it instead of something like an AYN Loki Mini if it wasn't so goddamn fricking pricey.
It's probably that pricey because
as in, they are not being fabricated anymore so the price of the ones currently in the market rises.
Just a guess anyway.
I guess, I'm not saying they aren't justified but it's really a tough sell. It's not like the switch is an amazingly powerful console and the market is now filling with more and more handhelds that might surpass it except for switch specific games.
there's probably a good hack someone is keeping secret until the end of its lifespan
i found a way to overwrite data using the original cooking mama game

It's great for emulation. Does ps1 pretty well, pretty much all consoles of that age and older.
Free software
This. Just emulate if you want to play crappy games.
No. Only option for anything not first-run Switches is EXPENSIVE modchips.
>EXPENSIVE
No it's not homosexual it's $100 for the modchip the rest pay's for it's self.
bro just own a launch-ish window switch.
It peaked 4 years ago
>le hidden bbc in reflection
kys
Wtf
big black wiener
go away you porn addicted freak!!
no
the scene is dead because people only care about being able to pirate (which can be done easily at this point)
Of course we want to pirate.
>which can be done easily at this point
Until there's a softmod for Mariko hardware, no it can't.
God damn bro, I just want to inject shit on my pokemon machine. I couldn't give less of a shit about anything else.
MAYBE SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT MIGHT BE!!!!!!!!!!
no, buy your games, thanks from Bingtendo, we value your money a lot
Is there a reason for it to? Switch games are better emulated, and there are better dedicated handhelds specifically for emulation.
You can ask the same question about any hacked console. Because it's cool from a development standpoint to get everything you can out of a machine and for the users, it's cool to have more stuff to do with the console you bought? Why would I buy a 400+ $€£ gaming tablet when I have a Switch?

It's full of trannies
what is some essential homebrew for this thing, every time i ask i get ignored or people just mention emulators and awoo isntaller
Switchroot
I think there's an MPV port
checkpoint for managing saves and dealing with weird games like the new sports game
some of the modules that enable third party controllers & overclocking, should come by default
Nx activity log is pretty nice if you want to track playtime like the 3ds

>tfw redbox cuck
Oh well, I just emulate this shit now anyway. Would be nice to steal games and play them in bed tho.
Don't know, I stopped caring when I was using reinx and had to keep my switch battery loaded all the time to avoid trapping myself into a corner. I uninstalled the shit and restored my nand.

I have a not oled switch v2, do I still need to install a modchip?
There are websites where you can input the serial number and it will tell you. Do some googling.
>V2
Yes.
>first run Switch destroyed in a fire
> : [
there are millions out switch old models out there, how hard is it to get your hands on one
People just might want the improved version. Or even the lite that most people recommended against grabbing. I honestly despise the fact if I bought a switch I'd have to grab different nunchucks because of the shit non-dpad.

Holy shit going back to the Wii there, didn't I
I meant joycons.
what games actually use the nunchucks??
I meant the joycons, I don't know what I was thinking. I'd rather not have something that's uncomfortable to use on portable mode. I already have a gamepad that works on switch if I have it docked.

Are all the old models hackable or are there some that are more recent, therefore not hackable at all?
The latter.

Most don't want to mess with piracy. They pay for Spotify ffs

It's not worth it anyways. I hacked my switch and it's so fricking convoluted. Not to mention it can barely handle emulation.
>have a softmodded switch full of games
>still have no desire to play and only play chivalry 2 and squad every day
Anything that came out recently that's fun? That Fire Emblem dynasty warriors game looks fun, should I replay three houses first?
Just do you.
Kirby Forgotten Land is fun
Elechead recently got ported, it's a fun little Japanese indie-puzzle game.
Portal port is nice too I guess if for some reason you haven't played it before.
I want to play that new vanillaware game but I'm not sure if it's actually a game.
>not sure if it's actually a game
You've been manipulated by Ganker shitposters I assume. RIP.
>have a softmodded switch full of games

This is the Pirate Curse. Having a trillion games just available to you for nothing makes you not want to play any of them
homie just pick one at random and play it
I think it's more that I think I already played all the exclusives I wanted to on it and have a PC for everything else. Also nothing that scratches the itch on the console at the moment.
I got a year 1 switch still never hacked it
I bought two switches at launch. One still sitting in the box, unopened. One day I'll get around to it.
How do I know if my switch is a Hackable old model
