Nintendo ”cultists“ have had zero impact on the success of the switch
It’s driven by parents buying their kids a handheld. Being a good console and having great games is nice and all but doesn’t matter, all that matters is bing bing wahoo for kids
The Tech is pathetic, but the games are better than (almost) anything else in the industry. Considering how shit the average PC is according to steam, people clearly love games more than good hardware.
Nintendo themselves call it a portable games console same as the DS, which is to call it a handheld. Every device that runs code from a hardware perspective is a console.
Most of the industry moved to focus on online games after the massive success of fortnite. This left Nintendo a niche as the single player game console.
The switch had sequels for series that people waited years for, niche or popular
The only stablished series the PS5 contributed for were spiderman and Ratchet and Clank (also available on PC)
The only thing Xbox could bring to the table is Halo and maybe Bethesda games and they fricked up on both fronts
Third party titles can't carry consoles anymore, not with even the Japanese jumping ship to PC and mobile
I mean Third Party games only ever "carried" consoles in the first place by being exclusives that might as well have been first party. All the consoles becoming identical to PC's, and thus each other, meant that you as a third party dev didn't have to actually put in any effort to make your game multiplat anymore. Like practically every system seller on the PS1 wasn't actually a Sony game, it was just that porting to the N64 (and paying for cartridges) was too much work. I think Sony just never realized that the reason they won the PS1/2 generation had little to do with Sony themselves making worthwhile games, and more that they just happened to be what other companies were making games on. And now that Sony's consoles aren't any easier to program for or storage mediums cheaper the use, they've had the rug pulled out from under them and now see that unlike Nintendo they don't really make much that people actually want.
I can't wait for the Switch to surpass the PS2 in sales, which will prompt the entire board to say stupid shit like "the ps2 never had any good gameS" and they'll proceed to shit on everything that ever released on it, for the sake of their dumb console war.
The PS2 IS overrated. Sure it had some good exclusives, but its competitors did too. Meanwhile a ton of the system selling exclusives of the PS2 are not good at all in hindsight. Take for example the fact that a huge selling point for the PS2 was its massive JRPG library, especially considering how tiny and anemic the GCN and Xbox JRPG selections were. Only it turns out, JRPGS fricking suck, PS2 era ones suck especially hard. Or look at how the PS2 was objectively inferior way to play multiplat games in third place behind the GCN and Xbox, which actually mattered because that was the first generation where true multiplat games became the norm. The biggest reasons the PS2 won it's generation are things that have no effect on actual game quality or retro-gaming, namely that it beat it's competitors because it 1:Beat them to market, 2: Was cheap, 3: was the worlds cheapest DVD player for free, and 4: Was easier for poor third-worlders to pirate for.
These are all points against the console, not against the games themselves. It's fine to say that sony can't program a good console to save their lives, but don't use that as an excuse to trash the library it offered.
>Take for example the fact that a huge selling point for the PS2 was its massive JRPG library, especially considering how tiny and anemic the GCN and Xbox JRPG selections were. Only it turns out, JRPGS fricking suck, PS2 era ones suck especially hard.
>ESL lacks reading comprehension
It was giving an example of how the exclusives of the PS2 tend to not hold up, by using one of the genres that it had the most lopsided advantage in.

No, your example was moronic because the Ps2 had tons of genres. Did you forget the Armored Core series? What about Ace Combat? What about Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper? Do none of those count because you think the JRPGs are bad?

You don't have the right to make that claim. Your hate of sony is justified, but that doesn't justify the hate of the majority of the library.
If I'm really gonna go that far, then I can even question your hate of JRPGs. Do you just hate the PS2 ones, or do you hate them all? If it's the former, that's fine. But don't act like there's some kind of huge discrepancy between JRPGs of different consoles.

*if it's the latter
I can understand a general disdain of JRPGs, but let's not split hairs because of which console they're on.

Didn't say they were bad because they were on the PS2, I said "PS2 era", as in, JRPGs of that timeframe (regardless of system) were dire even by the standards of the genre. It just so happens that the GCN/Xbox didn't get many JRPG's during that era, so their lists of "classics" are not so filled with said bad JRPG's.

That's not what you said though. To quote your post, you said "Meanwhile a ton of the system selling exclusives of the PS2 are not good at all in hindsight. "
JRPGs were just an example you brought up after the fact. You didn't restrict your initial statement to JRPGs. You were condemning ALL of the PS2's exclusives.
Anon It's just a good console. It offered something different that you couldn't get with consoles or phones at the time.
Now with the Switch's existence birthing the handheld PC market and shit like the Deck and Alley, Nintendo does need to make sure the Switch 2 is both a good upgrade and able to, lets say, run Fortnite at like, 720p 30fps at the bare minimum.
I'd say the next switch, in handheld should be able to run every switch game at docked mode WITH improved performance, by default.
it even received VERY unlikely ports like Witcher 3, Kingdom Come Deliverance and DOOM. If it was forced, do you think any company would even waste their time and money porting a game to a worse system?
It’s not a conspiracy but it did luck out in a lot of fronts: Being both a sequel console to Wii and DS, having WiiU games no one played to rerelease to have a constant flow of content, botw being so popular at launch, Covid keeping people home while animal crossing released, the other two big consoles having short stock for like two straight years etc… That’s just a few of the things that helped it, the switch hit a perfect storm but it was coincidental not conspiratorial.
It has games. Now if you want to say it had the benefit of the perfect storm of the coof helping out, sure. It probably doesn't get to the point of dethroning the PS2 without it. But it was always going to be a success, because the only thing that ultimately matters for a video game console is video games
>Sure it had some good exclusives,
Literally start with saying there are some good exclusives >but its competitors did too. Meanwhile a ton of the system selling exclusives of the PS2 are not good at all in hindsight.
Then elaborate on that with pointing out a lot of the exclusives it is best known for do not hold up, only a few >Take for example...
Give an example (JRPGs) where the PS2's supposed advantage in good exclusives over its competitors was not as it seemed.
what
It's a conspiracy? Maybe it's just Nintendo's decades of success and medium defining franchises.
Lemme go grab the tinfoil hat
nintendo cultists overhyped the switch because of the failure of the wii u
Eric you lost and got raped.
Seven years and counting.
Nintendo ”cultists“ have had zero impact on the success of the switch

Nintendo have shared their consumer analytics and their 20-30yo demographic is their highest consumerbase
>publicly traded company lies about sales figures
yes very smart move, genius anon
what's unnatural about it? Nintendo's handhelds have always done well
Supposedly sold 130 million and people only want it to play Mario and Pokemon on it
That tracks with Nintendo's handheld history. Mario and Pokemon games have always carried those platforms.
yet suddenly its 130 at $300
>suddenly
You mean after 8 years? DS sold like 150M
The Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Pikmin fans probably helped, too.
The Switches success is due to people having lower standards for handhelds. The Switch is fricking awful as a stationary home console.
>The Switch is fricking awful as a stationary home console.
It has games, that makes it the best choice by default.
The Tech is pathetic, but the games are better than (almost) anything else in the industry. Considering how shit the average PC is according to steam, people clearly love games more than good hardware.
It's a handheld anon
It's a hybrid anon and more in common with a console.
It's a handheld anon, marketed and sold as a handheld in Japan. Revisions of the device don't even come with a dock.
>marketed and sold as a handheld in Japan
Factually false. Nintendo themselves literally call it a console. Try again.
Nintendo themselves call it a portable games console same as the DS, which is to call it a handheld. Every device that runs code from a hardware perspective is a console.
Why don't the hardware revisions have a dock if it's not a handheld?
Imagine saying that when the nogaem station 5 exists.
Most of the industry moved to focus on online games after the massive success of fortnite. This left Nintendo a niche as the single player game console.
there are more normies than there are ants and normies like plingtendo wahoo HYAAAH

>Snoy actually gets caught fudging numbers time & again
>But no, it's Nintendo you worry about
hmmmmmmmm
Even if the shitch’s sales were real, which they aren’t, it still isn’t going to outsell the PS2, 160 million is too much
>160 million is too much
Maybe, but 155 million, the actual PS2 sales number, isnt too hard for the switch to beat
How does someone become this assblasted over a console?
