i think it's faster to just earn the plat to buy your first necramech
you get the mech, the weapon, the slot, and the potatoes for everything associated
it's more that depending on who you ask there's 500 metas because every new frame and gun just one shots things a little better than the last, i haven't switched off kullervo + felarx since they were introduced because there's no reason to. felarx does 3 million damage per pellet.
I feel like the progression probably got fricked a few years ago. Sure you could've got a tonkor at some point and been reasonably strong early on in the old days but new players now can get some ridiculous fricking weaponry and mods that just obliterate low level enemies. they just end up much stronger so much faster and i think the linear power scaling got totally borked for at some point, probably around the time they added liches
