There's a trainer that gives you invincibility and infinite actions so you can just kill everything turn 1. Still takes a while and is tedious as shit.
But why bother at all, there isn't anything worth suffering the shitty combat for, the writing might be the worst that Larian has done to date and the worldbuilding is nonexistent. Just watch some summary on youtube if you're invested in the story (it doesn't pay off btw).
Not OP but I've heard people talking about all the different stuff you can get up to, and there's a lot of appreciation for the characters so I have to assume there's SOME appeal besides the combat.
This is like every JRPG when people talk all day about the characters and story and then say it's not worth sitting through if you're not going to do the fighting. That seems wrong.
You need to be a desperate terminally lonely virgin to find any appeal in the characters, all the romance shit is really forced and awkward and the characters aren't even likeable. Except the gay vampire but he's just Stewie from Family Guy.

Maybe he just doesn't like the combat. If a game had a good story but had gameplay you disliked I can understand wanting to bypass the part you dislike.
I personally don't care for TTRPG stuff but then I'm just not going to play it because the story doesn't seem interesting either. Same thing for most turn based RPGs, there's too many games that I could be enjoying instead.

You're still being dragged through the plot in a linear fashion, the C&C is some cosmetic trivialities on the side, maybe one character will like you more or less or you'll fight someone for an item instead of buying it or getting it for free.

Honestly I've come around on having options to skip combat in games, but I think that should extend to all parts of it and games should let you turn off each different part of a game if you're not a fan. I want to be able to play The Last of Us 2 without ANY of the story or stealth sections, just the bits where you get into fights.

I disagree and find normal difficulty face roll to the point of never needing to utilize consumables. I literally haven't crafted a single potion and I'm about to kill the last of the 3 big bads . honor mode and tactical mode isn't that the npcs fight fair, they get artificial buffs , their hp doubled and bullshit + to attack which is artificial difficulty. I want just good combat that's challenging not bullshit bosses with 666 hp and gimmicks where they'd never have that in real d&d

Oh no, I don't use the strongest items at all. I just dislike swapping gear every 5 minutes, and I even dislike back pack simulator more. If I gear up, I can breeze just fine through the game without picking anything up or talk to shopkeepers at all. Clean inventory.
I also want to try to limit long rests. Maybe 3 for finishing druid arc. Also I would like to put a time limit on it. Maybe 35h? Obviously no potion, scroll spam aso.

DnD rules are complete dogshit for videogames. I enjoyed some of the baldurs gate series, but it's undeniable that these games (and other crpgs) would be infinitely more enjoyable if they didn't have to be built around a fricking tabletop roleplaying ruleset.
