CS: Source wasn't about the competitive aspect. It was everything about all the custom mods and online server BS they did. The Source engine allowed for some wild things you couldn't do online with other games and inspired gamemodes enjoyed today like Zombies in COD. It is respectable in it's own right. Maybe not for competitive.

Visual clarity is the strong point of 1.6, that's why cs2 is trying to copy the lighting and map geometry.
Everything else is subpar. Wallbangs make the gameplay repetitive and pixel nades are too easy to exploit.
