No because when you label yourself as "X killer" this assumes that you have nothing to bring to the table except maybe fixing some issues with X, which will be fixed in X's sequel.
Not even that, but people will play X because it is X regardless of the flaws.
WoW killers fail not because WoW fixes its flaws, but because WoW has the momentum of 2 decades of branding and player investment into it.
This is also why it's "dying", because these sunk cost brand loyalists eventually age out of playing it.
Something I've noticed is all "big things" are effectively flavor of the month unless it's a decade old. As big is palworld is, it's an obvious flash in the pan.
When WoW Killers were a thing WoW was like 3 to 4 years old. Same with Halo, as an example from OP.
Warhammer Online (THE WoW Killer) came out in 2008, while WoW was 4 years old game at the time, HAZE (THE Halo Killer) also came out in 2008 (which admittedly was a bit late, but just in time to be Halo 3 killer specifically, since it came out in 2007).

Dying Light killed Dead Island. Dead Island 2 was bland as shit and got stale after you see the admittedly cool gore for a couple of hours because the game doesn't really have anything going for it.

No but it has definitely taken Dead Island's place as the fun junk food zombie killing game, in my opinion. Dying Light 1 and 2 just have so much more going on in the gameplay. If we get a Dead Island 3, they would probably have to rip off Dying Light and I doubt they'd do a better job after playing Dead Island 2.
