Is there any point in trying to beat this without spirit ashes?
Beating the other Soulsborne games without summons was enjoyable, but the bosses in ER cheat so much that it's not fun to learn their moves and how to beat them. Like, if the boss is just going to immediately jump out of the way by input-reading my attack after finishing his long combo with no recovery time at all, why should I show him the respect of fighting him one-on-one?
Do whatever you want. Who cares? Gonna cry and shit your pants because some moron on the internet didnt call you "based" for beating the game without spirit ashes? Youve swallowed the koolaid to much kid, just play the game how you want and enjoy it. Jesus christ.
Watch your mouth homosexual
>help me justify my decision to be a little b***h by cheating
nah
I can tell you're fat 😉
And I can tell you are a gay 😀
Unironically better than being a fatty 😉
Not that anon but I'd rather hang out with a fat gut than with a homosexual.
You're not only a homosexual but also a casual, which is absolutely pathetic.
Probably because you're fat too. You two should hang out and be fat gays together.
You reek of no-skill. You can't even make a better insult than an ancient "ur fat lol".
You will use the spirit ashes and you will NOT beat the game as a consequence.
You reek of the barbeque sauce that's been trapped under your breasts for the past three years, you obese blob of lard.
Try something more offensive, homosexual
Try something less fatty for lunch.
Shit game. Open world sucks. Bosses suck. Most legacy dungeons suck. Story sucks. Type a b sucks. Nuke japan
if all you care about is finishing the game once and moving on then just do whatever you feel you need to do to reach the end
some people replay games a lot and will try out different routes or builds, some will do a lot of NG+ runs and just respec as they go
the game is what you make it anon so just enjoy it, if you feel it's too hard/bullshit and you aren't using everything the game gives you then that's you holding back
sometimes it's fun to challenge yourself and not use some items/spells/summons but that isn't for everyone so just do what you feel is natural
the game gives you summons as an option
I've never replied a game in my life. How do people replay games over and over again? Once you experience the first time it's boring. Looks like people watch the same movies over and over and over again. It's fricking boring dude I need something new. Low IQ fricking brainless ass smelling autistics.
The tragedy of having a high iq is dying at a really early age because you can't stand drinking the same drinks or eating the same food, so you just starve and die. Real shame, real shame.
Yes, you're problem is that you're just too intelligent, you Redditing homosexuals.
Anon are you confused?
was making fun of the other poster.
This happened to both Buddha and Jesus. Its a tough life out there.
>NOOO I PHYSICALLY CANNOT ENJOY STUFF I ALREADY ENJOYED ONCE
>I MUST CONSOOOOM SOMETHING NEW AAAAAAHHHHHGGGG I NEED MORE MEDIA TO CONSOOOOOM
> letting other morons tell you what to do in singleplayer
stop being a beta and play how you feel like it. you paid money for the game go enjoy it
>Is there any point in trying to beat this without spirit ashes?
Nope
Are you asking us for permission? Do whatever the frick you want holy shit nobody cares
Yes anon the big scary game is cheating and you simply have to summon to fight back!
Is this a bot?
not physically but spiritually, yes theyre bots
Would you feel better if I was?
Beep boop
It would be less depressing.
I'm sorry you didn't like my opinion 🙁
They're probably normal people, unlike you.
ok
Is this one guy or did this many people seriously misinterpret the OP? It was pretty easy to understand.
While on the topic, what's everyone's favorite Spirit excluding the meme ones like Mimic and Tiche?
The five skeleton shield bros who just body every boss into a corner while I warm up my kamehameha. Then when the boss dies they all start cheering and banging on their shields. I love them.
I like how the guy getting mad because the dudes outright deny his opinion cuz of ash usage can easly be disgerned from the rest.
Ah the pure salt, just like in the old hatemail days.
>disgerned
Im goin tu wrait laik shit and yur gunna deel wit it.
Also you didn't beat the game.
But is it worth beating?
nah, game is mid at the very best.
I've beat most of the bosses without spirit ashes.
If you're also adding in 100 other arbitrary restrictions like no shields, no magic, no armor, no VIG, no items, etc. then you might have problems, but no spirit ashes/summons is not super difficult for the most part.
The devs have always wanted the player to summon. Solaire's "jolly cooperation" and missing "quests" in the Dark Souls games were meant to encourage this and make it clear, but morons insisted on it never ever being acceptable, so they tripled down in ER. Easier summoning, items to let you summon pets, bosses made around the assumption you're using them, and dungeons where the sole reward is summoning ash, just to make it clear. As you can see, it doesn't work. O+R1 is all that's valid to these morons.
People forget that in DeS it was literally almost required to summon/be summoned to have your full stats. They’ve always wanted coop to be a part of the experience. “A hunter is never alone” was one of the taglines for BB
>absolutely desperate for validation for using video game training wheels
ha ha ha ha ha
tag:mindbroken
homie they put a fricking raid boss in the game, if that doesn’t explain to you that summoning is supposed to be an integral part idk what will
HAHHA cope more summon shitter
I beat the game with just a sword and skills and you know what I think this game is a lot easier than their previous games.
it's weird how defensive you homosexuals get, nobody cares how you beat the game
someone who didn't summon can feel personal pride that they didn't summon
so yes you beat the game
no you didn't beat the game without summoning
do whatever the frick you want, that's literally all there is to it
fair enough but the game is still shit.
ok
sounds like you are shit at the game
Okay, but is it worth becoming not shit at it?
is any game?
Yes, good ones.
name one
Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout
Spiderman 2000 on hard difficulty basic costume.
yeah, the later bosses in the game are seriously fun, kind of a shame you have to go through so many of hours of gameplay if you want to face them again
I dont think dark souls is for you mate
Weird that I've beaten all of the games multiple times then, mate.
It's a tool the game provides you with
wow
Frick off moron.
I beat every single boss without Black person ashes. If you summon you didnt beat the game, period.
Cope all you want in the replies YOU DID NOT BEAT THE GAME
ok
you are a worthless moron
Your axe wounds will never be a real vegana. Nobody, not even your own friends or family will ever think any differently. They may humor you, they may even use your preferred pronouns around you - but every single one of them knows you for the man you are.
What the frick are you talking about you disenfranchised loser
Just because you write big words doesnt mean they are real loser
Calm down son it's just a video game
>YOU DID NOT BEAT THE GAME
I did, and then I used my mimic tear ashes and my dual arcane katanas to beat it a second time. Tomorrow, after I finish Age of Stars ending, I'll beat it again for a third time doing the frenzied flame ending in NG++.
>pretending to be stoic while using literal training wheels to beat a video game
tut tut desperate summonshitter cope is always funny to read
lol you got recklessly ownt. your fault for playing the game like a moron, even sadder you are proud of playing stupid
>not trying every core mechanic the game has to offer
You most definitely didn't beat the game
You know I need to do a playthrough where I actually use spirit ashes. Mostly because I worry about finishing it without properly getting to fight them, and them being once per playthrough.
I feel like by not using ashes ever there's a part of the game I haven't even seen.
I wish they'd bring back bonfire ascetics in some form. I'd love to fight Malenia again but I'm not slogging through the whole game on a new character to get there again.
I keep telling myself this but I'm at NG+7 and still haven't summoned an ash once outside of based Stormhawk Deenh a few times after I got him. They look fun but I still feel bad even just summoning them, let alone bypassing the boss with them.
based, i loved using stormhawk. The house with all the vampires where you get radagon's soreseal, i wandered in, got ambushed by vampires, ran out, summoned the stormhawk, and just watched as the hawk murdered all the vampires for me. Best birdo.
Frick off man bosses in ER have like 2 hp and you have 10+ heals. Try playing nioh 2 where you bash into the boss for 15 min straight with 3 heals.
If it's good I might. Beating well-made bosses is fun even if they're hard.
b***h you are asking us for permission to be a shitter and use Black person ashes. You will never beat nioh 2, just like you did not beat elden ring.
No I'm not. I've already beaten the game twice with spirit ashes and I'm asking if I should bother trying to beat it without them.
You should probably calm down, it's not good to be this stressed.
Who the frick is "us" if YOU are the only one making a big deal out of it
Why are the defenders of this game so much louder and more obnoxious than its critics?
one group of people are a bunch of defensive morons that feel atacked when someone has a different opinion and the other group had decent arguments and was there from the beginning.
Im using ashes on my fourth playthrough like Ogha and the Beastmen and its fun watching them provide support or kill shit with me.
Spirit ashes make the fights really boring by taking aggro off you. That defeats the whole point, the fun of the fights is having the boss constantly try to hit you and you learning to dodge and retaliate. It's not a lot of fun to have the boss fighting a jellyfish, you smacking him in the back and running away, then repeating that until he's dead.
Do it without ashes, then later do another playthrough where you frick around with goofy builds and goofy ashes. Don't deprive yourself of the fun of fighting bosses solo.
>the of fun of...
>not a lot of fun to...
>the fun of...
I am getting all achievements (using summons & spirit ashes of course) and then I'm going to mod the every living frick of the game to include god mode and/or themed characters and/or better spells, etc. and put in another couple of hundred of hours and I will have FUN doing it. Frick your headcanon about what fun is Black person
You misunderstood my post, which is that there's not only one way to have fun with the game, but that you are missing out on one of the ways by always using ashes. Especially since it's where most of the development effort went, it's a shame to not at least try it. If you're not having fun then sure, drop that and go back to using ashes and modding and whatever else.
But to say that ashes take the aggro off you and that isnt "fun" is Black personish. Is it not "fun" to play a wizard character while a friend plays a tank character in games simply because they take aggro for you?
Watching AI fight each other is arguably more fun than fighting shit yourself after you've done it once or twice.
>Is it not "fun" to play a wizard character while a friend plays a tank character in games simply because they take aggro for you?
depends on the game
if you're playing wow and the gameplay is pressing frostbolt 40 times until the boss dies then yeah I would argue it's pretty unfun
Yeah thats kind of true
don't forget spending 10 minutes making everyone water first
>Is there any point in trying to beat this without spirit ashes?
yes, its very fun. as someone who has played all these games i was certain elden ring was going to be too easy. and while there were tons of ways to make it easy, playing with a normal weapon that doesnt inflict any of the easy mode statuses is very challenging, especially the endgame.
Yea I thought it was going to be too easy as well. So I stubbornly decided to do a "mundane" build in homage to DS2. I had like 20 in each stat by the endgame and was getting 1-shot by every fricking thing. Absolute nightmare playthrough, never, ever, ever doing that again.
"huehuehue spirit arrow travelling at the speed of light hits you out of nowhere! huehuehue" those spirit fricks deserve to be genocided.
lmao this homie asking our permission to use ashes
No. The game is a chore to play regardless of which technic you choose.
Twice. I "didn't" beat the game twice.
Are shields cheese?
They make backstabs too easy.
I beat it without summons on the first go-around. It sucks though, especially fresh, and I wouldn't recommend it.
The game is designed around using them, no point in purposely handicapping yourself unless you’re doing some sort of challenge run.
They’re actually kind of fun, first time around I beat the game pre first major patch so mimic tear raped everything. my latest play through now that things are more balanced im kind of trying them all out and seeing which one suits my play style, same with the ashes of war.
I mean the game is not souls, it’s not meant to be played like souls, the elements are there but you’re supposed to be constantly exploring, changing tactics, and adapting to specific battles.
You’re not going to go pure str and ground pound everytbing in the game. You’re going to go pure str beat a handful of bosses, then find a boss that you might need to bust out some ranged. Maybe use basic pyro skills or something. Then get to a boss that has like a specific weakness to an ash of war. Try out different weapon buffs (none of them take too much stat investment) and shit.
Think of it as the polar opposite of bloodborne. Whereas bloodborne gives you like 20 weapons and says pick one master it and beat the game, ER says here’s everything you can possibly think of, try it all.
>Is there any point in trying to beat this without spirit ashes?
If you don't want to, obviously no.
It was fun to me and I've played through the game 5 times already with different weapons, always 100% melee with no magic or incantations and I enjoyed it like this and even did a lvl 60 challenge run (cause I'm way too shit to do something as crazy as lvl1) and it felt about as hard as my first play through, but still definitely enjoyable.
Elden Ring is open world. When you feel like the boss is too hard for you, just run into literally any other direction and do something else for a while to get more powerful.
Or try to beat the boss with your current level, it's all up to you.
There's exactly one bullshit move that's borderline impossible to consistently dodge fully, and you know exactly which one it is if you've done all bosses. Itt seems like sometimes the boss starts looping in its input reading pattern if you also repeat the same action over and over again, like the famous estus>fireball>estus>fireball>estus>fireball loop.
But no boss suffers from a lack of a counter window, some just has a mixup at the end of a single combo test your patience
Also you HAVE to put points into vigor to not lose your mind, its not like the other souls games because those were designed to be 25 hours, not 100 and the required hp amount reflects that
>Boss finishes 15 hit combo
>Go in for an attack
>Moves limb I was swinging at out of the way at the very last second
It made me so fricking mad.
Hahahaha you fricking suck git gud. I’m on NG+ over 100 hours in and I have never touched spirit ashes
from bosses dont work when they aren't 1v1, it's always going to be slightly cheap because the boss gets distracted but who gives a shit
Yea they don't work outside of 1v1, but From keeps trying goofy shit to make them work outside of 1v1s. From all the coop I did, I got really fricking tired of bosses suddenly animation-cancelling their attack against one target to flip around and hit me instead. Or changing their target mid-combo. The gargoyles especially are bad about this, they go fricking chaotic when you try to coop them. Out of all the fights in the game the gargoyles are by far the least successful coop, probably 90% of attempts fail lmao.
I beat the game without them the first time so now I feel free to use them for bantz at any time
the only excusable reason imo
Placidusax is the best and least bullshitty boss in the game.
Fortissax should take some credit too.
So I'm thinking about using the death poker. If I do so would it be more beneficial to have a great shields in my left hand or use something like the sword of milos in my left hand?
Greatshields are cheese easy mode
Probably but I'm about to start a new game+ and never used one.
You shouldn't use them regardless.
ER bosses don't play fair, and they don't expect you to. That's why you can summon everything from heckin doggerinos to your own clone to another actual player. It's not lame if it works, outside of actual BS like clipping out of bounds.
They all do play fair, except Malenia, but she's a super boss so gets a grudging pass from me.
They literally all play fair, it's just a refinement of souls to where attack and dodge windows are much smaller and you really have to be efficient to beat them. But it's all totally fair. Except Malenia.
I'd say even Malenia is fair. I got used to her and it only took me 1-5 tries on subsequent playthroughs to beat her, cause I tried so much different shit and literally spent like 5 hours just learning her fight first time I faced her. All you have to do is keep a medium distance and let her attack and then dodge and punish, that way you never get hit by any of her bullshit moves. This is a little hard in phase one since she sometimes goes passive mode, at which point you can either commit to a jumping attack or just bait her attacks by staying a certain distance from her, then running up to her for a second then running back. Usually makes her attack again after that. I think everyone knows by now how to dodge her waterfowl if you have enough distance.
Others have made detailed breakdowns about how malenia breaks established rules that everyone else follows, most notably animation cancelling and posture breaking.
I agree it's not a huge deal and since she's a super boss it's fine by me, she's still a really fun fight, but it is frustrating that, for instance, flame of the redmanes doesn't posture break her out of waterfowl when by the rules of the game it absolutely should.
>Others have made detailed breakdowns about how malenia breaks established rules that everyone else follows, most notably animation cancelling and posture breaking.
I don't really think about details like that, especially when I'm facing a boss, but I guess you're right about that.
I just throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. If I see a boss cancel their animations, I adapt to that and just accept that as part of the fight.
>They all do play fair
Shit bait
I wanna cum inside Sellen.
Yeah just try harder. Practice makes perfect!
>bosses in ER cheat
The bosses are fricking annoying, but they don't cheat. Elden Ring fricking sucked, let's just get that out of the way. But bosses cheating? Cmon, man.
Is there any point in doing anything? Spirit summons are shit. Summons in general have always been a shitty afterthought and don't add anything of worth to the experience. It is not hard to beat Elden Ring without summons, the only boss that will pose a challenge is Malenia and she's optional.
So why does these troons keep making these threads? Whats the endgame?
seeing fromdrones getting mad and their arguments degrading to "i don't care" and "who cares play however you like" while they sob over a monitor over someone dissagreeing with them.
It seems to have backfired then. The humiliation of doing this would be soul crushing to me.
But I'm not so low worth I think I'm a different sex than I am so I can't really relate to how the mentality would play out in real time.
Its very interesting though, like studying something from a WWII nazi medical experiment for breaking the ego.
The game is entirely balanced around spirit ashes, that would be like beating Dark Souls without rolling. A challenge run.
only bullshit boss in elden ring for me is godskin duo early patch
rest is fair
Godskin duo got such ridiculous overhype. I assume it's new people who never fought O&S. The fight and arena are basically the same, you backtrack kite them around the pillars and poke every now and then when you get an opening. I beat them first try without any difficulty.
o & s doesn't respawn on a loop
and godskin duo doesnt turn into a superboss when you kill one of them
one aggro is simpler than two anon
I assume you used Katana or other bleed builds. In my second playthrough with Katana, I beat them first try no sweat. In my 2 colossal sword playthroughs I struggled a lot.
No I ran just a greatsword. Jump attacks were off the table but rolling pokes worked great, and any time the fat guy lunges at you you get a huge window to beat the shit out of him while the other guy is too far away.
>crouch pokes
Didn't beat the game
I've got no experience with greatsword, so I'll take your word for it. I always focus on the apostle, in when facing them. Maybe that was my mistake, but I do remember getting absolutely wrecked by both of them and especially the noble's power up version once he's at half health but I'll try it out if and when I'll do my next playthrough.
yea apostle is harder to focus until he gets to second phase and starts doing his long range stretchy attack. Noble is much more consistently punishable.
Friendly reminder that if you:
>used magic
>used ashes of war
>used summons
>used status like bleed or sleep
>used consumables
>used powerstanced weapons
>used shields
>used bloodhound step
>used colossal weapons
>used fast weapons like curved swords or katanas
>levelled up past 125
>used powerful talismans
>abused poisebreak
>abused jump attacks
You did NOT, and I repeat NOT, beat the game.
>R*ddit: LET ME SOLO HER!
>4chain: WHAAAAAA IT'S LE HARD
If you played Elden Ring then you didn't beat the game.
this but unironically since it is a shitty game
I did it without summons and it was perfectly fine. However, I cannot imagine trying to beat this game as a caster without summons, everyone and their mother reads your cast inputs and its impossible to land even a fricking glintstone pebble unless enemy does something other than walking.
