Witches are not women as we know them, such is their blessing and their curse.
        Also this

The whole point is they have intentionally make themselves ugly because they are sick of being objectified, also why they live out in the woods. They hate people they're misanthropes, they want you to go away.

, the magic needed to thrive in badlands, bogs and barren shores makes one an outcast. You either go there a misanthrope hermit or are stranded and become one.

People implying that's simply how it is within the witches' world is ok. I mean, who the hell knows how women are in there; humans not evolving from apes are a by-default in magic worlds and that alone is a game changer.
It's when the post has this subtle disapproving, what-are-you-buttholes-talking-about SJW virtue signalling undertone.
        >they might simply dismiss their looks... which is what many women choose in real life, okay?!

Turn it around and ask, why would a wizard not make himself young and gorgeous?

But if you're writing different kinds of witches, here are a couple of ways it can go:
-They can't or won't. Like there is some price attached they're unwilling to pay, or requires a level of skill they do not possess.
-They only change their appearance, through magic, illusion, transformation or some other means. When they do this it is as a means to an end, usually involving deceiving or tricking someone else.
-They can but no longer care. Crone witches are skilled enough in magic that they are able to, but also have enough life experience that they no longer desire it.

In general, when you encounter a young witch you are either dealing with an apprentice witch or are being deceived into doing something. The hotter they are, the more likely they're the latter.
When you encounter an old witch you are likely dealing with someone who can no longer be bothered, has lots of experience dealing with people like yours, and has a counter for everything you're likely to try.

My hag witch tried, but couldn't. She went for the body stealing method, but her daughter had powerful warding magic that guarded her soul and mind. Out of pure spite, the witch went for a more direct method via necromancy, chopping off her daughter's head and attaching her own to the still-living body.

Does it defeat the purpose of acquiring youth? Yea, but she don't give a frick, she's youthful below the neck, close 'nuff. She's considered using illusion magic to disguise her head, but has found she revels in the blatant disparity. Has magically preserved her daughter's head and keeps it as an arcane focus totem.

I guess it would vary from setting to setting, but I think making a gruesome arcane focus is far different than soul manipulating bullshit. That being said, the idea of her lying about that and just wanting an excuse to go for the more crude option is in line with being a viciously petty witch.

For the same reason why wizards look like wrinkly old men that wouldn't be able to lift a sword.
