I want to play an RPG in which I myself create the companions. Like how in FF1 you decide the team, their names, etc.
I am tired of every RPG having the same Bioware tier companions with half the cast being cool men and the other half being strong empowah feminists. I want an ALL MALE cast and the only way i'm gonna get one of those is with custom companions.
Any game that let's me do that? I know DoS2 has mercenaries and stuff but you can't really customize them.

Etrian Odyssey (or any DRPG), Metal Max and Dragon Quest III and IX.
Stranger of Sword City
Icewind Dale
wizardry
might and magic
basically every crpg blobber made before 2000
>blobber
What is this?
>doesn't know what a blobber is
What are you even doing here?
It's a first person, party based dungeon crawler
Stuff like Legend of Grimrock, Wizardry, Etrian Odyssey, Shining in the Darkness, etc
Crystal project
Wizardry and Might and Magic series. Bard's Tale. Really most DRPGs other than the Shining ones.
That's pretty common in dungeon crawlers, OP
Crystal Project starts you off with the same jobs as FF1 even,
there's also disgaea and other fatlus rpgs, pretty much all of them have customizable characters, but they're always irrelevant in the story, and only the named characters matter, but in wizardry and m&m the characters don't have their own personalities either, nor do the generic ff protagonists, so whatever. Although your problem is that you don't like the character protagonists, so that probably doesn't matter much, so what I just said was pointless
you can fully customize mercenary party members in the pillars of eternity games and pathfinder kingmaker and wrath of the righteous
I made the mistake of choosing the devs' companions and doing their quests.
Dragon's Dogma has you create one companion and then hire two more that other players have made. It's not much of an RPG, but it feels like a D&D campaign as an action game.
XCOM
You should look into RTwP games.
Icewind Dale1+2
Baldur's Gate 1+2 if you use LAN to create the save or you get the Beamdog version
Temple of Elemental Evil
Darksun games
Ravenloft games
Neverwinter Nights 2: Storms of Zehir
Darklands
Knights of the Chalice 1+2
Wasteland 2+3
Serpent in the Staglands
The Exile / Avernum series has you create your own party.
Looks pretty good
Dragon Quest IX my friend 🙂
FFT does though you can replace those with unique characters of your want down the line.
Horizon's Gate.
Dragon quest 3
The Disgaea series, Makai Kingdom, and Phantom Brave are all strategy RPGs that have main characters, but have a huge array of characters you can make, both monster and human classes. They are very over the top, silly, but very fun and light-hearted games.
Dragon Quest III has that sort of classic rpg thing where you hire your own party at a guild
This used to be a little more common in the past but still easy to find in many rpgs OP, mainly blobbers/DRPGs.
You don't "create" your party members in pokemon dumbfrick
Wasteland 3 for sure
draquest 3,draquest IX are the first ones that come to mind.
lurk more newbie
