Is there any RPG out there that forces you to create your own companions?

I want to play an RPG in which I myself create the companions. Like how in FF1 you decide the team, their names, etc.

I am tired of every RPG having the same Bioware tier companions with half the cast being cool men and the other half being strong empowah feminists. I want an ALL MALE cast and the only way i'm gonna get one of those is with custom companions.

Any game that let's me do that? I know DoS2 has mercenaries and stuff but you can't really customize them.

It's a first person, party based dungeon crawler
Stuff like Legend of Grimrock, Wizardry, Etrian Odyssey, Shining in the Darkness, etc

there's also disgaea and other fatlus rpgs, pretty much all of them have customizable characters, but they're always irrelevant in the story, and only the named characters matter, but in wizardry and m&m the characters don't have their own personalities either, nor do the generic ff protagonists, so whatever. Although your problem is that you don't like the character protagonists, so that probably doesn't matter much, so what I just said was pointless

I made the mistake of choosing the devs' companions and doing their quests.

Dragon's Dogma has you create one companion and then hire two more that other players have made. It's not much of an RPG, but it feels like a D&D campaign as an action game.

The Disgaea series, Makai Kingdom, and Phantom Brave are all strategy RPGs that have main characters, but have a huge array of characters you can make, both monster and human classes. They are very over the top, silly, but very fun and light-hearted games.

Dragon Quest III has that sort of classic rpg thing where you hire your own party at a guild

This used to be a little more common in the past but still easy to find in many rpgs OP, mainly blobbers/DRPGs.
