Basically modern fighting games have simplified their inputs down down, right right, left left or left right, right left, down up, up down, instead of the complex moves we used to do back in the day such as DP shoryukens 180/360s so they all neatly fit those move patterns. You can perform those with lever-less controllers much faster than on a gamepad using your thumb for instance.

King and Dragunov are the designated shitter characters right now because King's throws are a bit busted and Dragunov is fricking brain-dead easy.
There's still honest King players out there who will stick to their guns, but 95% of Dragunov players right now are meta chasers.
There shouldn't even be a ranked mode in the first place. Ranked is trash because people only care for optimizing point gain and that destroys the essence of the game.
I picked this game up because it looked kinda fun and the combos looked cool but really I needed something new to pick up. I only really played Melee before this but it's not really like other fighters with all the QCB/dragonpunch nonsense right?
I got my first perfect after learning a few of Marshall Law's combos and playing ranked, something just clicked. Is it supposed to feel intuitive or am I just button mashing and getting lucky?
I personally don't think Tekken feels that intuitive to pick up compared to, for example, Soulcalibur, but you can get quite far in ranked by mashing unsafe shit other players don't know how to deal with
Don't focus on combo strings at first, prioritize learning what your moves are and which ones you want to use. Pokes and punishes are much more valuable than knowing combos you might not get the chance to use. Characters have TONS of moves, but you won't be utilizing every single one of them and it's significantly better to know a handful of them well than to only slightly know all of them.
It's also important to focus on whatbother characters can do as well, mainly learning where certain strings hit and where there are openings to attack back. Somebody might be able to take off a chunk of your health with one fancy combo, but knowing how to punish that combo reliably can let you do even more damage back to him with less inputs.
I'd say every beginner should learn at least one combo though. Knowing your moves is nice but if you're playing against other noobs the one who's fishing for the same 60 dmg combo over and over is always gonna win

I picked this game up because it looked kinda fun and the combos looked cool but really I needed something new to pick up. I only really played Melee before this but it's not really like other fighters with all the QCB/dragonpunch nonsense right?
I got my first perfect after learning a few of Marshall Law's combos and playing ranked, something just clicked. Is it supposed to feel intuitive or am I just button mashing and getting lucky?
I personally don't think Tekken feels that intuitive to pick up compared to, for example, Soulcalibur, but you can get quite far in ranked by mashing unsafe shit other players don't know how to deal with
Don't focus on combo strings at first, prioritize learning what your moves are and which ones you want to use. Pokes and punishes are much more valuable than knowing combos you might not get the chance to use. Characters have TONS of moves, but you won't be utilizing every single one of them and it's significantly better to know a handful of them well than to only slightly know all of them.
It's also important to focus on whatbother characters can do as well, mainly learning where certain strings hit and where there are openings to attack back. Somebody might be able to take off a chunk of your health with one fancy combo, but knowing how to punish that combo reliably can let you do even more damage back to him with less inputs.
I'd say every beginner should learn at least one combo though. Knowing your moves is nice but if you're playing against other noobs the one who's fishing for the same 60 dmg combo over and over is always gonna win
