I installed Shin Red onto my 3DS just for the nostalgia factor. I can't really imagine playing anything other than Crystal Clear, however. Since I can choose to begin in kanto with a customized trainer.
NTA, but no, the only acceptable Pokemon QoL hacks are making all Pokemon catchable (and somehow they still always frick this up by not prioritizing the lowest-level versions of each to be the ones able to be caught). Nothing else, unless you're a homosexual.
How long until Gen 4 is considered retro?
That's not how "retro" works, newbie.
It already is. (Partially)
Due to the 2007 releases of Pokemon Battrio, the following Gen 4 Pokemon are /vr/ by technicality: >Buizel >Buneary >Carnivine >Cherrim >Chimchar >Darkrai >Dialga >Dusknoir >Electivire >Empoleon >Gallade >Glameow >Grotle >Hippopotas >Infernape >Mantyke >Monferno >Munchlax >Pachirisu >Palkia >Piplup >Porygon-Z >Prinplup >Regigigas >Rhyperior >Shinx >Snover >Staravia >Tangrowth >Torterra >Turtwig >Uxie >Vespiquen
Please use this information for good instead of evil.
Pokemon Garden, developed by Bascule and published by Yahoo! (the search engine) on July 7th, 2006, is an official Pokemon MMO chatroom with minigames, including rock-paper-scissors, slots, and an interactive tour. It was made in Flash and was shut down in 2009.
The game has the Sinnoh starters in it. (I've found pictures of Turtwig and Chimchar, I presume Piplup was in the game too.)
Pokemon Scoop 2006 Spring Pokemon Ranger Tokushuugou, an official advertisement disc for the DS game, contains a Flash minigame, and is thus technically a video game, and includes Buizel, Chatot, and Mantyke.
You can download it here:
https://archive.org/details/pokemon-scoop-2006-spring-disc/
(By extension this makes Pokemon Ranger /vr/ by technicality.)
There are also some notable fangames for PC made before 2008 that include Gen 4 Pokemon.
One example is Type Wild by Pokemoa, a 2006 fighting game that includes Lucario and Lopunny as playable characters.

You're trying way too hard.
>the only acceptable Pokemon QoL hacks are making all Pokemon catchable
nope, Shin also allows rematches, and level scaling, and evolutions without trading, and running, and reusable TMs, and
Crystal Clear allows customizable trainers, beginning at any town, level scaling, ect
>rematches
Maybe acceptable. >level scaling
Extremely gay. >evolutions without trading
May be acceptable. Problem is that you can't have a level 16 Alakazam (for example), if you want one, since this added mechanic forces you to level up your Kadabra to evolve him. >reusable TMs
Extremely gay. Get good. >Crystal Clear
Created by an actual homosexual. Nothing else needs to be said.
Crystal Clear is great if you had ADHD. It's a sandbox first and foremost, and should not be used as a means of experiencing Gen 2 in any regard outside of being a Stadium 2 team builder with extra steps.
In terms of actually playing a game, it falls behind vanilla Crystal by quite a bit.
it's open world, it has to be scaled levels
out of my way, nave.

That’s not how these boards work, otherwise nobody would discuss retro RPGs in general due to /vrpg/, nor retro games with multiplayer functions due to /vm/, or retro RTS due to /vst/ etc. Given the impossibility of actually discussing retro Pokémon games on /vr/ due to that board being full of spiteful zoomers who derail every Gen 1/Gen 2 title, posting about them here makes perfect sense and doesn’t break board rules.
I only played up until 2nd gen, and while Gold felt like a long fever dream which I actually enjoyed a lot and was the one I played the most with friends, Red and Blue will remain the best experience for me.
Training and battling is cool, Stadium games made good use of that, but the GB games were genuine great adventures. I remember feeling really invested in that world, which was similar to the real world, but everything was about pokemon here. It felt very organic.
Best song in the game and underrated:
>go to look up crystal clear out of curiosity >"ummmmm the only place you can get my romhack is via my discord even though I'm hosting a website right here"
yeah go eat a dick homosexual
yes

crystal clear is beyond good
just played through pureRGB. wasnt a fan of all the type changes. well it wasnt many but was still very very good imo
pokemon autism hacks are not /vr/ you're looking for /lgbt/ or /zoom/
Sorry for enjoying a better experience
>better experience
FUNNY
this. the game might be retro but rom hacks are not. unless they were made before 2000
>romhacks
You're over a decade behind the times.

Radical Red adds level caps against bosses and that alone makes it better than any other pokemon game and even RPGs in general.
Fr, no cap.
YAYYY I LOVE NOT PLAYING GAMES THE WAY THEY WERE MEANT TO BE PLAYED
this unironically

>knave*
Illiterate inbred.

Me too, it's a nice change of pace after playing them the same way for 20 years.
of course

It's even /vr/ by pre-2020 standards, imagine that!
It is /vr/ but I don't want to see it on /vr/ because it's too much nostalgia overload
We have /vp/ for a reason.
Talking about Pokèmon on here is like talking about the Crash Bandicoot Insane Trilogy on /vr/

impossibility of discussing them on /vp/ due to spiteful zoomers, I mean.
Yeah fair points
You have it all wrong, /vp/ exists as a containment for pokedrones, not for pokemon discussion.
Frickin love pokemon bros
no only xbox, xbox 360, and ps3
For me anything past the first PlayStation isn’t retro

was it crystal clear where all characters were different shades of brown?
Iirc that's actually poopemon smokers teeth yellow
had to check
yes it was
it's like everyone took a skinny dip in a septic tank
Nave is my word, frick off babby.

>Because it was altered by a romhacker, it's better
The zoomer mindset, much like the troony mindset of alteration of genitals.
