i don't understand why so many people prefer 2 or 3. yea i'm a boomer and mgs 1 was my first, but goddamn it was such a masterful game in all aspects. especially memorable scenes, atmosphere and characters (which were very disappointing in 2 and 3).
People who prefer 2 it's usually bc it was their intro to mgs. Every mgs has absolute shit writing but also kino moments, so it's not like one stands clealry highly above the other when taken period context

Yes, all favorite boomers games are shit and they love it because their favorite youtuber said that is favorite videogame. All Kojimbo walking sims are like that, full of cutscenes and cringe story with 2 minutes of gameplay.
Gameplay wise it's gonna be an adjustment, but if you stick with it and play the whole game you'll be satisfied. MGS2 substance is my favorite in the series though because of all the tech stuff, replayabillity and philosophical story themes.

I'm trying out mednafen currently, so far works well. Before that I completed it on ePSXe without any issues.
I didn't like it personally, unironically it has clunky controls

MGS is really not good. It's more or less a boss rush with a fricking bad movie in between fights.
It's one of the best video games ever made. Much silent hill, all 3 of the main titles are literal 10/10.
