It's a great parody of people who try to beat the square peg of D&D 5e into the round hole of every single other possible genre even if it would be a poor fit. Hell there were unironic articles around the time Cyberpunk Edgerunners came out about how to run it in 5e.

It really not though. People do genuinely started out with another RPG then D&D and then reskin for everything including D&D. Dungeon world started out as Apocalypse world after all.
DnD 5e is just the most well known example because it's the most popular. But anything with a fanbase gets the same treatment.
what are you talking about? my group has never done that, if we want a different setting that isnt inherrently supported by a system, we just play the fricking system that supports that setting. we'v gone from 5e to CoC to Delta Green to PF2E to Stars Without Number with a few other systems thrown in there for one shots
>People do genuinely started out with another RPG then D&D and then reskin for everything including D&D
Unlike "I started with D&D. Just home brew D&D"gays which are all over the place I have never once seen this, except for maybe GURPSgays but their system is made to do that so they have an excuse.
People use to love the first system they played amazing stories, and sometimes try to convert everrthing into that system....
Back when I was at university I found a VtM group, played with them a ot and then, one day, the master came out with a conversion of CoC into vampire to play 1000 Mask of Nyarlathothep
Another group I played converted Vampire into Cyberpunk 2020
The worst cope is "well we already know the rules to this system so why spend the time learning another?" but learning a new system takes probably 45 minutes and homebrewing a hodgepodge Frankenstein version would take a couple hours for the DM, then as much time explaining the differences to the players as they'd have to tto explain the rules of a new system.
I'll assume this isn't another one of the bump spammer's disingenuous ragebait threads and give an straight response. It's a terrible idea. How has it become so common for people to lack the mental maturity to recognize when a game isn't made for certain kinds of play and try a better suited system?
>First RPG group >One guy wanted to run his own game >Hard scifi >In D&D >Keep the same classes >No actual magic (hard scifi can't even fluff it as psychic powers or high tech bullshit) >Just a party of fighters using guns instead of swords and bows >Weapons weren't even balanced so everyone used the same gun
Most Dipshit & Dumbass players are just that. They assume all that there is for RPGs is D&D and have hard blinders on, and either do not go to the game store/search for RPGs online and ask, or consider it "too hard" to learn how math rocks work outside "Roll the one die".
Sure, just follow the 5e Youtuber school of "just refluff it bro".
If with enough imagination a dragon can be an attack helicopter and a fireball can be a missile launcher, I don't see why it can't work in reverse.
I'm unclear as to what he's asking either running the forgotten realms setting using cyberpunk red game system or running the cyberpunk red setting using the D&D game system either way it sounds pretty much pointless.
STOP POSTING ABOUT BALDURS GATE! I'M TIRED OF SEEING IT! MY TIMELINE ON X SHOWS ME MEMES, ON Ganker IT'S FRICKING MEMES! I was on /tg/ server, right? and ALL OF THE THREADS were just Baldur's Gate stuff. I-I showed my d20 underwear to my girlfriend and I said "hey babe, look I'm wearing Baldur's Gate merch HAHA DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DI DI DING" I fricking looked at a israeli man and said "THAT'S A TIEFLING" I looked at my penis I think of gay shit and I go "PENIS? MORE LIKE BEAR SEX" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHGESFG
What the frick did you just fricking say about me, you little b***h? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Forgotten Realms, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Mindflayers, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in bugbear warfare and I'm the top archer in the entire Baldur's Gate armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the frick out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Realm, mark my fricking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Spellweave? Think again, fricker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of goblins across the Realms and your Magic IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the firestorm, maggot. The firestorm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fricking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my Magic Focus. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Wizards of the Coast and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fricking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fricking dead, kiddo.
I'm going to answer this seriously, even though I know it's not the point of the thread.
There are two main problems here:
-Converting combat from gun-based
-Magic
The first I think isn't too bad; there's already a decent amount of melee combat in Cyberpunk, and there's rules for swords and body armor and bows and shit.
The problem is magic, which will need an entire new system grafted on - and because of the nature of Cyberpunk, probably not stealing Vancian magic from 5e. CPR and the Witcher use the same underlying system, but the game's FAQ specifically says that the two games aren't compatible, so it'll be more than a little work to translate the magic.
It honestly might be easier to make the group learn a new system than to try to add magic to Cyberpunk; maybe make them learn the Witcher?
Serious reply despite OP being a satire. You can just say a lot of the cyberware is magic rather than cyberware. It's probably the worst way to do it.
I can KINDA see a simple magic system that way. With that said, it's DEFINITELY not D&D style magic. Not older Vancian, not modern... Spontaneous casting I guess would be more what it is.
It's a Reddit post that needs to point out whether it is meant as satire, so no. An actual good idea would be for you to go back.
>guys, you know wrestling isn't real right?it's all staged. >guys, the magic tricks aren't magic, it's slight of hand you idiots.
We know it's fake, but honestly is there anything of any substantial worth being talked about on /tg/? The answer is no
From what I understand, Cyberpunk RED is a TTRPG, and allegedly, "all TTRPGs have the same issues as D&D".
So no, it isn't a good idea.
It's a great parody of people who try to beat the square peg of D&D 5e into the round hole of every single other possible genre even if it would be a poor fit. Hell there were unironic articles around the time Cyberpunk Edgerunners came out about how to run it in 5e.

>your group are the only people on the planet who play games
Honestly, a reasonable take if your main experience is this board and Reddit.
>People do genuinely started out with another RPG then D&D and then reskin for everything including D&D

So, not that strange in my experience

I should clarify, I know it's a parody, but I've heard enough genuinely stupid ideas like that at my uni's club to bring the question up.

No, it can't be done.
It's just not possible.
Wow! It’s like I’m really literally on reddit!
It's always was.

BG3 already has a game system though it's called FATAL
bump
I heard it greatly improved the 3.5 rules

have you tried playing D&D™
That's it, boys; pack it up, the board's over.
Motherfricker.
To be fair, *actually* playing D&D is an often overlooked solution on /tg.
true
Winner
The worst troll strikes again.
>*shakes fist furiously*
Goddammit he got us all
Where is that from? I need to know.
For reasons of cultural enrichment.
Female Hero's Journey
Just wait for the Pseudo VTT vidya game.
Even one of my OSR players played a bit of BG3 and came back deranged.
>Baldur's Gate World
i fricking hate them already
GURPs Faerun or OSR Faerun sound fun though
Didn't they already do it with a supplement for their fake MMO?
Elfquest or whatever is it's name?
It's basically the midterm between their Witcher gameline and the Cyberpunk RED gameline.
It says "satire" in big letters above the guy's post.
>guys, you know wrestling isn't real right?it's all staged.

>smashing Cyberpink TTRPG's into a medieval fantasy setting
Almost as fricking stupid as trying to turn D&D into a modern realistic setting.
Damn didn't need to post a self portrait too
very cursed post
Looks like redditors can be funny every once in a while
he is doing a weird sex game with his budies?
Jokes aside, considering that picrel runs on Cyberpunk 2020 engine, it is definitely doable in some way maybe even better than d&d, who knows
We know
pondsmith is such a fricking sellout
homebrewing is the only way of playing rpgs, /tg/ hates it because they are nogames
Have you tried playing D&D?
too late homosexual
