Games didn't take nearly as many resources to push hardware to new territory as it does now. This is the problem with modern Sony, they're doubling down on pushing hardware to its limit and the result is a library consisting of maybe 10 games that all took years and millions of dollars to make. Modern Sony is choosing this.

The WiiU was an "excellent" console compared to PS4's first 3 years on the market as well. Super Mario 3D Land, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, and Smash WiiU were all things that you could play before Bloodborne came out, and Splatoon just misses that mark by a couple months.
I unironically don't take people who regurgitate "Bloodborne" seriously. Been an Nintendo fan since the N64, but the PS4 is the most time I ever spent gaming when I initially got it for KH3. Easily got at least 100 games on that thing.
The people who say "Bloodborne box" are PCgays, most games that came out on the PS4 got PC ports as well. If you don't already have a PC, a PS4 Pro is a pretty good value for money gaming box.

The problem with the PS5 is that they're killing it off before it even gets a library, which leaves one to assume the PS6 will have the same exact problem.

The ps5 was released in November 2020, so it won't even be five years old before being abandonware by Sony. It's literally Sony's WiiU but at least Nintendo made like twice as many games for the WiiU. Is it unironically over for Sony? How can a PS6 compete if they won't make games?
Sony is going to have to prove themselves with the PS6 if they want me to even consider getting it. The Switch also looked abysmal after the Wii U since the launch titles were just BoTW and a port of Splato- I mean Splatoon 2. It became a decent system eventually, but for a while it was a Wii U port machine that people were praising it for.
The people praising Switch for its WiiU ports didn't own a WiiU...which is the majority of people. If anything, it's a great example of how games don't sell a console nearly as much as good marketing does.

The Tour courses aren't the majority, and thank God for that because if anything threatened to derail 8D's DLC rollout it was those shitass courses. A lot of remade courses and few new ones, but MK's been remaking courses since Super Circuit anyways.
It may not be the majority, but it sure feels like it sometimes because lobbies are full of people picking a Tour course whenever it shows up instead of choosing literally anything else.
The shit taste of the unwashed masses cannot be accounted for, but it does make me wish Nintendo left that shit to rot. If anything, they leaned more and more into it as the DLC came to a close so frick me, I guess.

It really feels like we reached some kind of breaking point. Apparently AAA games now take longer to develop than the fricking console's entire lifespan. You wait years for a sequel that is barely different and not an improvement over the previous title at all, while during PS2 era you could get 2-3 games of one series, year after year, and they all made huge improvements with every instance.

Ps5 has been neck and neck with ps4 for a while, but I think with it missing holiday sales targets by 4 million, and not having a single high profile first party game, exclusive or not, for over a year at minimum, it's going to start lagging behind. This was the part of the ps4's life that had the pro for double dipping, and regardless of their quality, a wave of high profile "prestige" exclusives such as horizon, spiderman, and god of war. Ps5 really only has gta6 in its future, and that's quite a ways off still too.

This is a really weird console generation. We're basically midway through the cycle and it feels like I'm still waiting for it to actually "start". Nintendo won't make the same mistake of releasing new games on both switch 1 and switch 2. Everything that came out on ps5 was on ps4 too for like 2-3 years. If you wanna play the new mario, new zelda, and new pokemon, it won't be playable on the switch 1.
I think Switch is the refresh Nintendo needed to make a long-term platform like what Sony and MS are trying to do, except Nintendo will have more actual video games. They were clearly flying bling in the Wii era regarding internet implementation, but I think they've put in some effort to create a sustainable ecosystem to where the next console can just support the last one, online purchases and all. At least, I certainly hope so. Nintendo officially catching up on that front alone is worth a successor.
None of them can afford to wipe game libraries in the era of digital releases, but yes the Switch pushed Nintendo into feeling a bit more modern and not the niche gimmick that people grew to see the Wii and Wii U as. It would be suicide for Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo to not be backwards compatible, so while they are “long term” console systems, it does also make them feel more like upgrades rather than entire new consoles and generations

Xbox is objectively the best console this gen. BC with Xbox one, 360 and select OG Xbox games. Emulation im dev mode makes it capable of emulating all the way to Wii. Great machine. Probably will get it.
Aside from the Xbone I tend to prefer Xbox as far as hardware goes they just usually don’t have the first party games aside from the 360.

I just wanna play some good games, thats all i want, I've played so many older games on my emustation but i want something new. Sony shit is always the same formulaic bullshit. Helldivers 2 was somewhat fun when it actually works. On my PC i have so many games, that i honestly paralyzed with choice. If there is one thing Sony does better its letting stay focused on one game.
