It's all very sterile and takes the Skyrim and Fallout 4 path of storytelling in that your choices never have actual consequences tied to them and therefore can get out of just about any situation being a net positive for you. Also they somehow managed to make shooting things boring, which is something I only thought Borderlands was capable of.

Yeah but it seems like they in dire need of one themselves. Like that side quest in first area, with funeral fee collecting on behalf of the company, which they tried to pass as some horror of late stage capitalism. Now, i don't wish for anyone to die and i don't want anyone to suffer a loss of a relative with the need of going through funeral organization - but what the frick do they think happens when people die IRL, capitalism or not? Like, do they think all that shit is free? Hell, in-universe a pre-paid company-organized funeral is the closest thing to actual welfare. Also, why does company charge for funeral instead of just taking it from the salaries? Why are there no company scrips present like the ones that actual company towns used? Even the starting area doesn't know if it wants to be a frontier town or a company town.

>I don't know what obsidian worldbuilding is, but this game doesn't have a great set of story elements, I could've done something similar and I suck at writting stories

This is probably why I stopped playing sfter leaving the first planet. It just felt utterly pointless. I liked the priest companion before he joins, felt like a little edge to him but that also devolves into a joke.

Definitely what hurt the game most for me. I managed to finish it back on launch with a $1 month of Gamepass but by the end I was just bashing everybody I met in the face with a hammer to get through as quickly as possible.
Everybody's so fricking shamelessly moronic. You can't expect a player to take the characters or world seriously when the entire setting has a room temperature IQ and nobody even attempts to really do anything about the problems plaguing every planet. The entire game felt like being an average guy in a society run by chimps.
