Is this game a meme or not?

Is this game a meme or not? The character races are interesting (although mechanically all the same) and the setting is cool, but the mechanics make me uncertain and the fact that you can't die unless it is a narrative event decided by the player seems very lame.

Have any of you tried it?

      >no mechanical difference between races
      >not being able to ever die if you so choose
How is that awesome or fun?

But races get different Aspects and not every narrative benefits from PC death.

What narrative benefit does building a hotel in Monopoly have?
It's a game. There's not supposed to be a narrative.

              It's not bait. It's my honest-to-God opinion.
RPGs suffer in a multitude of ways if you try to shoehorn in a narrative element, as it limits the actual roleplaying and exploration elements that are the main draw of RPGs.

The not dying thing can work well, Tenra Bansho Zero let's you get bonuses from declaring yourself vulnerable to death for a particular fight. It means you can go out in a blaze of glory, maybe, but also potentially limit break yourself into a win.

One of the issues is that the game goes out of its way to say how DANGEROUS and SCARY the Wildsea is. You need to PROTECT yourself from its HORRORS etc etc.
Unlike TBZ where's there's a reason you're getting mulched with bonus powers is because "in world" you are getting your ass kicked but you're biting back. Here it's kind of jazz hands and dreams. If the Wounds system was more robust then it could work, but it's just another track to get rid of by applying medical drug to it or sucking the GM's wiener.

Though that also doesn't help that the game says "You don't need combat!" and then every single Kickstarter Backer Artpiece has a comically oversized Monster Hunter weapon.

But races get different Aspects and not every narrative benefits from PC death.

The Aspects aren't different though! Every Aspect follows the exact same point-buy build and most do the exact same thing. Your HEAVY AXE is the exact same as the WICKED SCIMITAR, both are 4-Boxes with one damage type that may not even come up.
There's no mechanical differences between the stupid Cactuspeople and humans, mothpeople, or the shipwreck bots.

Some aspects are the same, most are not. Learn to read instead of getting mad.

Seems sorta like Fragged Empire I guess and if the rules are any less gay it might be worth checking out.

      >t. Never been in a non-park forest
      Nature is grody, bro

IDFK what I'm looking at, but it hurts.

If he's ever outnumbered or misses a shot, he's fricked.

The crank mechanism looks to be a one-lever version, but it's on the wrong fricking side relative to his dominant arm. Also if for whatever reason the crank mechanism fails, which they were known to do fairly regularly, he can't even stand up to try and span it, or at least run away.

Why is it attached to his stump? Why not extend the dominant arm's armrest and attach it to that by a similar mechanism?

The placement of his quarrels means that, combined with his right arm being dominant, means that if he does have a way of respanning, to reload he has to then either swap hands to hold the crossbow steady with his left hand while the right grabs a quarrel, OR he has to reach over his own chest with the left arm. Both insane options; why not have it at his left side where it's easily reached by the arm not in use?

If for any reason he has to adjust his angle of firing, that spyglass extendo mechanism will immediately make it impossible to see where he's aiming.

He's managed to sacrifice his ability to aim the crossbow for the convenience of being able to sit on his ass all day. If you're going to be stationary, why not set yourself up on the ground prone, so you're less visible and have better aim stability/sight? At least then you might manage to get more than one shot off before getting your shit wrecked.

      Other things that tell me the artist is just cribbing 'cool' shit;

Why tf does this homie have a single spat on his boot? He's not walking anywhere, so he's not going to get mud or shit on them. Also they're on the ocean, so doubly true?

Why tf does he have a crossbow and spyglass, both of which are relatively costly, but the spokes of his wheelchair are rickety as shit and seem to be made from bone? Also one is missing, meaning that part of the wheel is now fricked the moment you roll on it.

My question is why doesn’t he just get a peg leg like a normal seafarer. Would make sense if his spine is fricked, maybe?

I don't mean literally grody, just aesthetically disgusting. I don't want a six armed cryptid or a flying ship. I don't want robots or cactus people. I don't want any of this shit.

RPGs suffer in a multitude of ways if you try and shoehorn in game elements, but that doesn’t stop people like you enjoying them. Some people like to experience shit, and that doesn’t have to include character death as a fail state.

Oh wait it's just blades in the dark.

The two interesting mechanics I took away from skimming the rules are aspects, splitting your HP up between your special moves, and the knowledge=language system. Each character having a different concrete amount of understanding of specialized terminology and skillsets sounds like it would lead to fun scenes.

I'm more angry by how poorly designed and clearly not thought out everything in that picture is. Where are the stabilizing wheels on the front? What is the axel attached to? Why would you affix the crossbow to his fricking LEG?! Where's the fricking breaks or locks to keep the chair in place while he's aiming his moronic stump weapon? Who the frick dressed the cripple in a long coat that's going to get tangled on his fricking wheelchair?

The only thing I know about this game besides what's in this thread is that the homosexual from Sit Down Shut up thinks it's one of the best RPGs ever made, which is enough to tell me it's completely fricking awful.
