I finished SoP at 100% achievements, DLC included. I finished Wo Long and never touched it again (and I have the season pass).
So, for me, SoP is way better than Wo Long.
Wo Long got massively improved by its DLCs. At this point i consider a definitive edition of SoP to be worse than Wo Long with 2 out of 3 DLCs.
6 MA slots has mostly remedied the amount of combat options and they are not locked to certain combo string followups.
give me your address so I can come to your home and politely explain that the game would be improved with a more standardized loot system rather than the statstick loot lottery
the looting shit is fricking garbage and drags the entire game down
doesnt help they are mostly worse than the default designs. no, i dont want to hide half of my character's fricking face in the cutscenes. no, i dont want the cute girl to wear a borderline hijab for +10 armor. what the frick? why would i want that?
finished it recently, i'd say it's average, Jack is a fun character, but the combat gets repetitive fast and the level design is bland and boring, it's worth a single playthrough
As another anon explained, It's nioh, with a final fantasy coat of paint, and also a very loose prequel to the original final fantasy. Overall, Nioh 2's combat mechanics are vastly superior, and SOP's job system is a simplified version of NIOH's skill system. That said, the way that you can get experience for jobs by having job attunement through gear is pretty cool, and being able to level up jobs through anima shards is also cool. Another cool thing is that Jobs don't really limit the weapons you can use, like in Nioh, but each job give you different bonuses depending on the weapons you're using.
Unfortunately, the level design is vastly inferior to Nioh. While Nioh was very based in feudal japan, SOP doesn't really know what it wants to be. Each zone draws inspiration from every final fantasy game, while keeping the general theming of the original final fantasy. And worst of all, they kept nioh's horrible itemization.
The music is mostly forgettable, with some hints to previous games' motifs here and there. Marilith's battle theme kicks ass though.
I don't know If I should aggree or disagree. I myself am still going through the game, so there might be some nuance to the job system that i'm missing. Although I want to aggree with you, I think that there is some unnecessary complexity to the job system that does more harm than good. For example, it makes sense that the stat bonuses (extra HP, extra damage, etc) only apply while you have the Job active, however losing link skill upgrades doesn't make much sense.
I've recently unlocked some master jobs (namely sage and assassin) and the prompt said that master jobs excel through the customization they allow, but I haven't found a way to to that.
Although I do like the way that they basically changed magic to use MP instead of just being another ninjutsu.
oh yeah forgot to mention that the translation is absolutely atrocious, i started in English because i though this game was made with westerngays in mind but i was wrong, i noticed that something was off from the body language, so i changed to Japanese and it all made sense, the English script in this game is heavily edited crap that would be an insult to call it a translation
>Start Nioh 2 with Katana/Spear because i liked them in Nioh 1 >After maxing out all the other weapons still go back to Katana/Spear >Exact same thing happened on Stranger of Paradise
Love em
It's a very good, typical theme park mmo. If that doesn't make you want to pick it up or if that phrase is meaningless for you, then no, it's a terrible game you shouldn't play. If those words interest you, it'll probably become your new favorite game.
I think people overrate the story and characters, despite Jack both being very entertaining and a good character, but the game overall is a lot of fun.
It's by far the worst Team Ninja release but still fun if you're willing to overlook the flaws
Worst performance out of any game released right now though and i genuinely don't understand how the frick did this happen
Is the game still running at 720 and below on PS4 Pro? The demo was ridiculous with that dynamic resolution.
I have the game but haven't touched it yet.
Tried to get into it because chaos memes but didn't get to have fun with it most of the time, combat is full of particles so I can't see shit most of the time and you die in a couple hits so I would basically roll over fights or get raped in half a second.
Also hated the way MP and MP attacks work
Its only flaw is that the endgame difficulty is a huge step up at first but then when you manage to put together a build the game becomes pointless to play all of a sudden because you destroy absolutely everything.
No, but an mmo with tab targeting, 'avoid the red area on the ground' defense, and global cooldown on all abilities is, by no possible stretch of the imagination, an action game.
Eh it's alright. Didn't bothered with DLC with how horrid final chapters were to play. It's a fun game for people who love "builds" autism, but many other things I found lacking.
what job is that? I have never seen that before, I have just been using the basic jobs. Ronin and swordsman are my favorite so far. daggers and spear aren't bad either. As far as the build tree goes, I am facing choice paralysis here. I am nearing the end of my first playthrough(hard) and all of my jobs outside of the basic ones are 0(unused). Is that bad?
Game is good but the dlcs and the rift are pretty bad.
Gameplay itself is great though, its like a mildly worse nioh but with a lot of interesting builds still
The story is better than you think and if anyone in v finished the game Jack would be worshipped daily
Rare case of english dub being good, jack is better in english, most others are better in jap.
No, they make the game better, that anon is moronic. They're "bad" in the sense that they didn't add new levels (except for the last one) but instead they added a lot of good new systems. In particular I think fusion was tied to one of them and that is an absolute must. They also added new weapons/jobs which are fun, especially the gun. Last dlc level is very good too.
They add new weapon types which are staff and gun. They also added new job, one of them is summoner that lets you control Bahamut directly and I basically consider it a weapon type. They add new bosses and on higher difficulties enemies and bosses get new moves. On the hardest difficulty they're new "chaos" versions of the four fiends which are substantially revamped versions of each boss. If you like the game then they absolutely are worth it in my opinion. I can't remember if fusion was part of a free update or if it was behind the dlc but it's the main smithy function that really enable set building by letting you move affinities around.

It's not just part of the DLC, you have to unlock it through story progression so you won't get it until a significant way through postgame (it's like, floor 15 of the Rift or something).
If you can get them for cheap, get them. They add a lot of new bosses, some of which are quite fun, but not much in terms of new levels or regular enemies. The progression is also tied to the new difficulty levels so they force you to play through old levels on higher difficulty before even being allowed to fight the new bosses.
If you like the core gameplay, DLCs are a fun way to kill more time, but definitely worse than Nioh's DLCs and probably worse than Wo Long's, which I haven't tried yet but many people are saying that they made the core gameplay better.
get it next week during steam halloween sale, it's great if you like action games, fun builds/theory craft and final fantasy. only bad thing is the insane amount of loot you need to filter
there were two demos. you didn't play either of them? what are you, chaos?
I think so. It's essentially Nioh with a Final Fantasy skin, and you get based Tsudaken as the voice of Jack.
The weakest of Team Ninja's recent mass-produced slop
Is it worse than Wo Long?
no
yes
yes. nioh 2 > wo long > nioh > ff origin
FF Origin is their best game in terms of features and builds. They shit the bed with Wo Long by making everything normie friendly.
I finished SoP at 100% achievements, DLC included. I finished Wo Long and never touched it again (and I have the season pass).
So, for me, SoP is way better than Wo Long.

6 MA slots has mostly remedied the amount of combat options and they are not locked to certain combo string followups.
6 slots? I thought there were only 2?
They revamped it
1-2 for tier 1-3 weapons
3 for tier 4
6 for tier 5 and beyond
How would 6 martials work if you only have 4 face buttons? Do you have pages that you cycle through like you would for items in Nioh
Two sets of 3 MAs, you cycle with MA button + left trigger
Wo Long is simply a bad game, only chinks pretend otherwise
No, he's wrong, it's much better. Wo Long is garbage and by far their worst.
I respect Jack's strength
It's pretty fun but the loot elements do drag it down a little
the loot is really annoying.
someone needs to educate these nioh Black folk that nobody wants the diablo loot shit
I do. what now?
you must be killed
give me your address so I can come to your home and politely explain that the game would be improved with a more standardized loot system rather than the statstick loot lottery
I do too but I hate it when I take long break on an unfinshed build and when I come back to it Im clueless as to what I need to be looking for.
go play lords of the fallen moronic fromdrone
It is actually good but you need to stomach a certain degree of jank, bad optimization and general low budget feel.
the looting shit is fricking garbage and drags the entire game down

Then use the appearance editor, moron.
Then that reduces gear to meaningless, abstract numbers, which is just as bad for different reasons.
finished it recently, i'd say it's average, Jack is a fun character, but the combat gets repetitive fast and the level design is bland and boring, it's worth a single playthrough
It's surprisingly great and I hate everything else team ninja and SquareEnix has done. The story even manages to be interesting.

The job system is far better than the weapon based builds in Nioh. IMO they should integrate some of the ideas in their future games.
I don't know If I should aggree or disagree. I myself am still going through the game, so there might be some nuance to the job system that i'm missing. do you respect Jack's strength?
paying respects to the best Final Fantasy protag there ever was and will ever be
I respect Jack's strength and trust him implicitly.
always have
Very much so
I respect Jack deeply and idolize his power
of course
Yes.
I respect Jack's strength.
DON'T STAAAAYYYY
WITHIIIIIIN
THE DAAAAAARK
DON'T WALK AWAY
FROM THE LIGHTTTTTTTTTTTT
YOUR DESTINY AWAITS
It was nice to play a Team Ninja game not set in feudal asia.
>Start Nioh 2 with Katana/Spear because i liked them in Nioh 1
>After maxing out all the other weapons still go back to Katana/Spear
>Exact same thing happened on Stranger of Paradise
Love em
Good game that turns great with all the expansions. Most of the complaints can easily be fixed by opening the menu.
is it worth getting for coop if I didnt like nioh/2
Yes
level design is generally weak and the majority of characters are 1 dimensional but everything else about the game is genuinely great
It's a very good, typical theme park mmo. If that doesn't make you want to pick it up or if that phrase is meaningless for you, then no, it's a terrible game you shouldn't play. If those words interest you, it'll probably become your new favorite game.
>theme park mmo
The frick drugs you on
Can you changes jobs often or are you somewhat stuck with the first one you pick?
You cam switch jobs at any point and switchimg between jobs is an actual combat mechanic
I think people overrate the story and characters, despite Jack both being very entertaining and a good character, but the game overall is a lot of fun.
It's by far the worst Team Ninja release but still fun if you're willing to overlook the flaws
Worst performance out of any game released right now though and i genuinely don't understand how the frick did this happen
it's the only good game squeenix has released in a very long time
Is the game still running at 720 and below on PS4 Pro? The demo was ridiculous with that dynamic resolution.
I have the game but haven't touched it yet.
It's pretty good in some ways and pretty bad in others. Depending on which bits matter to you the game overall go swing dramatically either way.
yes. its excellent.
Tried to get into it because chaos memes but didn't get to have fun with it most of the time, combat is full of particles so I can't see shit most of the time and you die in a couple hits so I would basically roll over fights or get raped in half a second.

It's a fun fast-paced action game with a cool variety of moves and jobs. People who don't prioritize gameplay won't like it.
>action game
Wut
Are you the same autist that sperged over "gameplay" a few days ago
No, but an mmo with tab targeting, 'avoid the red area on the ground' defense, and global cooldown on all abilities is, by no possible stretch of the imagination, an action game.
hey buddy I think you got the wrong door, the ff14 thread is two blocks down
Idiot can’t read
action game
Only if you're a Nioh fan. If not, play Nioh first.
>but it's a Final Fantasy game
lmao, no
I loved Nioh 2
Eh it's alright. Didn't bothered with DLC with how horrid final chapters were to play. It's a fun game for people who love "builds" autism, but many other things I found lacking.
Unironcally my favorite FF game cause it focuses on gameplay.
No.
frick death machine
Yes, it's great. I actually want them to make another one. It really shines more once you have the dlc and all the forging systems unlocked.
Nioh - Mechanically depth and challenge
SoP - Variety (playstyle/builds)
Wo Long - chill / PvP
fun gameplay. wish it wouldn't make me grind some shitty numbers
what job is that? I have never seen that before, I have just been using the basic jobs. Ronin and swordsman are my favorite so far. daggers and spear aren't bad either. DLC job and a spoiler. You can transform into Bahamut once you beat him
Im curious as to why the animations are so much less polished than those of nioh and wo long. Robotic as frick.
It's supposed to be like Final Fantasy
it's surprisingly good and took some of the sting out of 16 being terrible. feels cheap tho
You get the Gameplay and Wacky Endgame builds from Nioh now with an FF skin and 1/3 of the production values.
>Walk up to enemy
>Fricking Izuna drop them
>Easy as pie!
Should I go english voices or japanese voices? I always go with japanese but english might be hilarious from what I saw in the trailers
Unironically English dub.
English for sure.
English. Jack is fantastic and everyone else is still pretty solid.

Bad enough that one should buy the game without them?
No, they make the game better, that anon is moronic. They're "bad" in the sense that they didn't add new levels (except for the last one) but instead they added a lot of good new systems. Mostly i didnt like that you had to do the riftshit to progress and there were barely new levels, the new jobs and fusion were fine

Japanese is better, I don't know what these guys are talking about.
both are good, english has funny meme lines that got spread about. if you end up playing it a ton, just switch between the two
They're both good. Pick based on which Jack you like better.
Just listened to Japanese Jack, it's one of my favorite male voice actors, I'm going with Japanese
Yeah, Japanese Jack has an excellent VA. It's hard to choose between the two, they're both great.
boo
>Aerogas u
Nice try
I love this game because it's the closest thing to an actionized FFV/FFXI + I respect Jack's strength
I stopped playing because I couldn't figure out how to progress in the rifts
It was my game of the year.
yea
jacks game is probably the best FF unironically
he deserved the budget that FF16 got
I got bored of it after the first level
This and Lies of P are my favorite games that came out from this and last year
No
>J-slop
do you like J-slop? It's not good but it's J-slop and lots of people here like J-slop
but it's not made by israelites?
SOP isn't J-action
its much more enjoyable than nioh.
I dont know what people see in that game its all around bland.
It's one of those games Ganker pretends is good like Dark Souls 2, Devil May Cry 2, and Dragon Age 2.
it's a great game that filtered game journos and casuals
get it next week during steam halloween sale, it's great if you like action games, fun builds/theory craft and final fantasy. only bad thing is the insane amount of loot you need to filter
