Is this game even worth playing? It seems impossible to figure out I spent hours and even figure out one thing.

Is it even worth learning or is it shit? Why won’t these morons include a tutorial.

God what a blast from my childhood
I remember fully maxing out my trade convoys whilst having a private army of 10 Ship of the lines
Basically became my own east india trading company
Fantastic game, shame it doesn't quite work nowadays due to the water graphics or something

How do you figure this out as a child? It’s fricking impossible and they give you zero fricking guide. Even the manual is shit.

      You must be a demigod

Build up slowly, work on finding good trade routes and building up capital (fleets & ships) through trade or by taking them from pirates
Once you have a decent pot of money, build another fleet up and start trading using the routes you found.

By the time you get to mid game you should have 2-3 auto trading fleets, letting you build your own fleet for combat, so that you can start doing fun stuff like fighting pirates or using letters of marquis.

You might be interested in playing Starsector btw, its a completely different genre (Space theme) but its actually a decent spiritual successor to port Royale, though less of a focus on trade and more on combat.

Are you fricking moronic or just simply moronic?

As for the game itself: it's Patrician 3.5: Caribbean Boogaloo

Check old forums online for trade routes you can just copy if you are having a bad time, or look for some ancient youtube video. Also how are you playing the game right now? I thought it wasn't possible to play it in modern windows systems.

just scum trade to get an okay ship, then board and engage bigger ships for bigger gains and better ships. then start investing in real estate and youre pretty much set

I remember there was a glitch to get more than a streamer. I never did it back in the days but imagine the kino.

I really hated how the game handicaps you in naval battles for no apparent reason. You're forced to play one ship at the time while the enemy can have as many as he can. As much as it's very tedious but still somewhat doable in open sea it becomes a fricking pain in port battles.

When I was a kid I was annoyed by it at first too. In Patrician III you could deploy all your ships at once after all. Then I assaulted my first port and greatly appreciated not havin to micromanage every ship to avoid it charging at full speed against the dock and then getting dicked down by the cannons.

tell me why patrician had that option and port royale doesn't except for arbitrary difficulty (bullshit). go on.

Nta but Patrician was older and managing ALL your ships in every single battle became fast a huge pain in the ass. Usually it just turned into you sending all your ships away and then dealing with AI using just one of your ship. It was enough to win most of the battles and imo Ascaron just aknowledged it. Also, it made the game more balanced, AI usually didn't go around with 90 ships in Patrician III, but you could. Hell I remember having a HUGE hulks convoy and having fun pillaging every single Hanseatic League city.
Speaking of differences between Patrician III and Port Royale 2, there is one only spaniards and italians had to go through, and that made me confused as frick when I was a kid. In english the Patrician III ship names were Snaikka, Crayer, Cog and Hulk no? And they actually reflected the original german names. For some reason, maybe because they thought it would be easier on the spanish and italian audience, FX (the publisher who bought the game in the aforementioned countries) decided to change the names into schooner, caravel, "vessel" and galleon, despite it not making any sense. For this reason I was adamant when I was a kid that Port Royale 2 was actually wrong and that they massacred my boy galleon making it into a very different ship. Very little I knew I was wrong, but this combined with the naval battles being 1vs5 really off put me back in the days. I went over it fast enough thouhg, and had the fun of my life for many years. When Port Royal 3 I was excited as frick but then it was a let down, and so I stopped buying their slop.

What a coincidence, I just picked the game back up. Also could never figure it out as a kid, but now business is booming. Just learned how to use standing orders at warehouses to my advantage and stole a whole English military convoy. Good times.

Running in window with DxWnd with fullscreen enabled in PR2Config.exe. It does stutter a bit when videos start, but maybe there's a fix to that too.

Is there even such a thing? The only RTS game with a naval focus I played was Ancient Conquest.

I'm going to get it then get back to you. It's a very niche premise so if you have any interest I doubt you have much choice. This and Patrician have always looked cool to me but I never tried it out. Other anons on here seem to like it.
