The only things I like more in BG3 are the combat and having more roleplaying opportunities, but both points come with a caveat, first BG3's superior combat is hampered by it's absolutely braindead build autism not to mention how piss easy the game is, second the roleplaying is ultimately meaningless because your playthrough is mostly going to be the same besides "are you good or evil?" the mythic path system in WotR unironically encourages you to replay the game more even if not all mythic paths are equal
Mythic Path is really not that it outside of Lich, almost every path end up with practically the same options outside of some extra flavor on the dialogue because of the nature of your power
lol no, closest to a different path would be the swarm path , all the other are the same reskinned content with different flavor of the NPC's with the same extra content, its almost comical because their special content consist in the same structure and same prewritten time duration/ quest structure

Paths are there for flavor , the only one that fundamentally changes how you experience the game is Lich, it does not mean that they are not other paths that will play a meaningful part in the story like for example Aeon does influence it but it will not give you that much extra content just a different ending and lore dumps for the most part, the game is storry driven game with the plot being the main force behind everything that happens,.

but is the RP meaningful? like can i kill characters i dont like or will decisions i make early come back to bite me later?

Depends on your standards, i really like the build autism so i stomach the game but if you want meaningful RP and don't care that much about the combat you are much better playing somethinge like Tyranny if you liked bg3 , i would suggest you to again to Kingmaker a chance and see if you like the 3E combat before , it will also help you figure out how the writting works in Owlcat games.,

Yes. In my first playthrough of kingmaker I got the wrong companion ending because I said drinking is cool at very start of the game. >but is the RP meaningful?
Game is pretty linear and you'll be Baron/King or Crusade leader in any case but within those roles there's quite good variety.
Like, you can become lich and your goals and methods can be vastly different, same with angel and other shit. If you compare it to BG3, pathfinder easily destroys it in that regard.

killing a character is RP, i cut off karlachs head in BG3, how is that not RP

This is a really bad example.
You're literally asked to kill her.
Similar and better RP is everywhere in pathfinder.
On the other hand "I don't like you die" is not RP.

I mean, just try killing some random people in tabletop dnd and then try to prove to everyone that it's RP.
"I want to kill everyone" is purely video game stuff and has nothing to do with RP.
Being a thief is RP, being an assassin or mercenary is RP. Killing in broad daylight because you just want is not RP, it's just being mentally ill irl.

Just going around and stealing from everyone is definitely not RP.
There's a huge difference between "I know this homosexual has something valuable so I'm going to try to steal it" and "I'm going to steal from everyone at the risk of getting caught without getting anything of value".
There's such thing as consequences and the lack of them is purely video game thing.
Better story than BG3 but more woke, and it's kinda hard to outwoke BG3 but the game literally begins with a troony saying the first words of the game, then you being forced to rescue the troony, reunite him with his dyke orc wife, save the orc dyke wife and reunite her with the troony all goddesses are man hating dykes in polyamorous relationships (guess one of the trans writers needed to shove his fetish), and the roleplaying is kinda bad.
Because the story is about a mom trying to resurrect her son so she turns you into a mary sue and everyone hates you for being a mary sue and you can choose the pretty color of your mary sue power and fight demons and envious hags.
BG3 plot is literally DoS2 but worse, don't think even Larian can tell you what the plot is about considering each act has a different goal that goes nowhere.
What plot?
You go from DoS2 rip off to > Which one of this 8 methods to remove the tadpole do you want? SYKE! You have to do all of them and it goes nowhere
To "Ok this game is about the cult of the Absolute and mindflayers" to HA! IT'S ABOUT THE DEAD THREE! only for the Dead Three plot to go nowhere and end up fighting Lilo and Stitch villain in the end.
Nobody said the plot is "confusing" or high IQ, i said it's bad, unorganized, someone had a brainstorm and decided to throw as much shit into the game only for each plot and villain to be completly disrespected.
Play kingmaker first, it has better writting and a better setting, what makes wotr good is the encounter design and build autism.
You really need to be familiar enough with the setting to beat wotr on core to be fun otherwise you will hate the railroad and one note side quests while beating it normal
thats what i noticed when watching videos, it does seem rather railroaded, but the mythic path system seems cool and the ability to become very evil is appealing
From an outsider prespective, Kingmaker definitely looks like the 'better game' but WOTR seems like it scratches an itch that otherwise isn't often addressed.
it's pretty great, I'd say go for it, anon
I think the biggest difference is the combat - In BG3 if you lost a fight, it's probably because you didn't position yourself well enough or you hoarded your more-powerful skills/magic. In WOTR, if you lost a fight, it's probably because you didn't buff up enough. That being said, depending on what difficulty you play, WOTR is a lot harder.
You have the option of playing in real-time or turn-based mode, so coming from BG3, you might want to stay in turn-based.
Creating and customizing a class is a lot more complex than other crpg's i've played, so watch out for that
Some neat QoL features it has are that dialogue skill checks are performed automatically by the person with the highest skill and a shared inventory across party members
all party members are pretty memorable
crusade mode sucks dick. I see what they were going for, but it seems to be implemented real half-assed
I tried playing this game on core difficulty, I made a slayer, at level 2 some dudes in the first maze dungeon two tapped me from full to zero and I party wiped
its ok but theres one thing that ruins it whenever you rest outside of your cities you get corruption or some shit like that which gives you a penalty on stats and rolls sometimes you have to travel across the map which makes you get fatigued which also reduces your stats but if you rest you get the permanent penalty. This game doesnt really have rolls so if your stats go beyond certain point youll miss everything and get hit by everything
>you rest outside of your cities you get corruption
Literally a non issue unless you spam rest after every fight, not to mention that you can pass a skill check to reduce the corruption bar
at most after 3 rest you get tier 1 corruption, some times you have to travel far away and have to savescum while fatigued not to trigger a random encounter, if you are spell heavy youll be forced to rest and so on buffs are mandatory too even if you are not spell heavy
Its complete garbage my guess is that they did it cause the game didnt have enough content so having to manage it pads the length
No this is the best mechanic, makes it so you actually have to try to clear as much ground as possible instead of resting after every fight. I wish BG3 had something like it instead of just arbitrary >you can't rest here
areas
Very different kind of game.
It's much more focused on the ultra epic narrative and harnessing the game's mechanics to win fights and much less focused on dialog and reactivity.
To clarify.
Reactivity as in reacting to your choices both in and out of dialog, not just, "[Cleric] by my god!" dialogs, which baldurs gate probably has more of anyway.
Just play as a barbarian.
Wrath does have a couple of really cool things involving your deity choice, however.
>Reactivity as in reacting to your choices both in and out of dialog, not just, "[Cleric] by my god!" dialogs
Yeah and pathfinder has a lot more of that.
BG3 is full of shit that just gets forgotten.
I bought this game after BG3 came out because it was so cheap and I didn't want to buy BG3 for $40 from a key reseller. I liked it so much that it actually made me buy BG3, but then I realized that BG3 was just straight up worse in every way that matters.
The Good >Much more build diversity >larger party sizes >no, seriously character builds in this game are fricking insane >Mythic Path system adds a lot of replayability and can dramatically change the story's direction
The Bad >Production values aren't as high (no mo-cap, limited voice work, etc) >Buggy in some places >Crusade mode isn't very fun and is required for a couple mythic paths
Overall, I definitely recommend the game, just be prepared to tweak the difficulty as you go. The game's difficulty curve is kinda all over the place.
no, the dungeons are all sleep inducing linear hallways, you fight the same 12 enemies for 110 hours, pathfinder is a gay system, the extraplanar city is the most mundane and boring city ever coinceived, lacks basic features that even games 20 years older had like ability to freely kill characters and to steal, the tacked on homm3 minigame sucks, the puzzles suck, the dlcs suck, there's only one good companion (regill) and writing is even worse than bg3's and that's saying fricking something. Ignore the owlcat cultists telling you otherwise, they have absolutely no taste. Go play literally any other crpg, toee or bg2 if you want combat and the trinity of Planescape: Torment, Rashemen: Torment and Revachol: Torment if you want a cool story.
>you fight the same 12 enemies for 110 hours
Wrong >lacks basic features that even games 20 years older had like ability to freely kill characters and to steal
Doesn't need them >the tacked on homm3 minigame sucks
Fair >the puzzles suck
Some do, some are fine >there's only one good companion (regill)
Ember, Daeren, Camillia, Wenduag, and Greybor are all written well >and writing is even worse than bg3's and that's saying fricking something
Up to personal taste, but lol no. They are roughly the same quality except wotr is slightly less reddit.
WotR takes ruleset and roleplay fidelity over balance to the extreme. Because of this it is entirely possible to make entirely useless characters. For example, the Assassin subclass is based heavily around poison. Demons, which make up like 80% of enemies you fight in the game, are totally immune to poison.
Yes, it's good but the game will not hold your hand unless you play it in a difficulty where it's actually impossible to lose. I suggest Core if you have the time and willpower to learn the game's mechanics, once you do you'll see it's quite fun. BG3 has far more production value but Wrath of the Righteous is the better RP experience in my opinion, both in decision-making and gameplay.
Get Enhanced Edition, I haven't played the DLC because I beat the game twice right after launch so you'll have to ask someone else if they are worth it or not. Checking the Steam reviews, they are leaning more towards no.
Don't touch it is garbage, the combat is worse than BG3. There is nothing better than DnD 5e there is a reason why 5e is popular. Just stick with BG3, there is no better CRPG than BG3.

yea the mythic paths seem interesting, i will say pathfinder not being voiced puts me off it a bit, having everything voiced and acted in BG3 is nice
voice saved for key moments is the superior system anyhow
