Play all the way to level 60 for free and find out
Its got an extremely long, boring and repetitive series of fetch quests through the Main Story Quest to get to the much better endgame and expansion content. Allegedly the story is great and all but it's an extremely slow burn, and most classes won't be unlocking their main play features until very high levels.
probably not worth it then. SE really should have named XI and XIV as FF Online 1 and 2. kind of a scum move
But XI is one of the best videogames ever made. Making nearly impossibly difficult content will never happen again.
Why they fucked off and copied WoW for XIV makes no sense.
because they like money, retard. And post-relaunch XIV is paying dividends
Impossible content was ironically good publicity for it.
That's just the stockholm syndrome talking. XI has a lot of problems.
XI was a shitty EQ clone in the same way XIV is a shitty WoW clone.
>to get to the much better endgame and expansion content
Jfc why do they always do this shit? I'm above fetch quests, I'm above "Give this to fucksticks in Bumfuck, Nowhere", I'm above that shit, it's beneath my station. It's padding to fleece my money and time. It's fucking disrespectful, lazy, and bad design. If I have to go through 30 levels of shit to get to the real game, then it's better to simply remove that shit and make Lv30 Lv1.
>but but but it's to learn your class an-
If a game takes days to learn YOU HAVE MADE A SHIT GAME.
A lot of things set up in the original story come back and are fleshed out in the expansions.
They have already trimmed and streamlined a lot of quests and fights. They flat out removed like 50 mainline ones that bogged things down too much.
>A lot of things set up in the original story come back and are fleshed out in the expansions.
Long after I've forgotten it.
Things like Ascians and Hydaelyn were just wrapped up in Endwalker.
Characters you meet very early in the story, like Y'shtola, are still very story relevant.
You will revisit areas and character introduced in ARR and the expansions all the time.
>Its got an extremely long, boring and repetitive series of fetch quests through the Main Story Quest to get to the much better endgame and expansion content.
Bonus: the MSQ is impossible to skip unless you pay extra to skip it (the fact that this service exists at all should be a huge red flag) and clearing it normally will literally take you hundreds of hours.
are you unemployed? definitely. Otherwise: maybe. Depends on how much you like cutscenes.
No, the story is very bad.
>No, the story is very bad.
It's unironically better than most mainline FFs, especially more recent ones like 13 and 15.
>Is this game worth it if I play it like a single player game?
Only if you are a JRPG or visual novel enthusiast but are running out of good JRPGs and visual novels to play. If you haven't yet played the classic Final Fantasy games, Xenogears, Suikoden, Trails, Utawarerumono, etc, then go play them first before you start scraping the bottom of the barrel with FF14.
The game is a 400+ hour long visual novel. 50% of that time is spent watching cutscenes. Another 25% spent running to the next cutscene or NPC to talk to. 25% is actual gameplay, but combat in FFXIV is a snoozefest, and half of your combat in FF14's story is done by yourself, either running to a quest location to spawn mobs that you burst down in 5 seconds, or running through a solo instance. The other half of your combat time is spent in 15 minute long dungeons where you get matched with other randos who you never see again after you part ways.
The story pulls a bait and switch, with the first two story arcs being about geopolitical conflict, but then by the time of Shadowbringers the game changes in tone to being a power of friendship shounen anime where everything goes right for the heroes and there is no tension anymore. Long running subplots are abandoned. The main cast of characters, the Scions, are pleasant but not memorable like other JRPG casts. That isn't to say that the game is terrible; the early arcs are very enjoyable, but the story becomes less and less satisfying as it goes on.
To make it clear, I don't think FF14 is terrible as a singleplayer JRPG. There were some moments I liked in the latest expansion. But again, it's a 400+ hour long slog. In that amount of time, you could finish 10 other JRPGs that have overall more fun packed into them.
>400+ hour long slog. In that amount of time, you could finish 10 other JRPGs
Most JRPGs are not even remotely that short.
Persona 5 is over 100 hours, Octopath is like 70+, etc.
Most JRPGs are 50+ hours minumum.
The rare exceptions tend to be older ones like Chrono Trigger, that was intentionally shorter because it was designed around replaying it.
This is also assuming these are good JRPGs one hasn't played yet, you like and are in the mood for.
>classic Final Fantasy games, Xenogears, Suikoden, Trails, Utawarerumono
all of these (except 3 Suikoden games) are the bottom of the JRPG barrel you gay
Is that why Asmongold abandoned the game?
He used his mom's death as an excuse but maybe this is the real reason.
>asmogold
literally who and why should anyone care what they think
Zoomers have lost the ability to form their own opinions and are entirely reliant on e-celebs to do their thinking for them.
yes. It has an amazing story
Yeah, it's basically a singleplayer jrpg with a pretty good and emotional story.
Yes, the strongest parts of the game is the stuff you play solo or with bots/randoms.
Story, music, cool bosses & dungeons, etc.
Keep in mind though that it only properly gets good at the first expansion, Heavensward. Since the content prior to it is the original game (that wasn't that good), unfucked.
imagine 200 hours of both
>"YOU, THE PLAYER CHARACTER, ARE THE GREATEST PERSON IN THE UNIVERSE. YOU ARE THE SOLE SAVIOR OF ALL EXISTENCE AND WE KNEEL. OTHER PLAYERS EXIST SOLELY FOR YOUR BENEFIT. ESPECIALLY THOSE RANDOM ASSHOLES WHO KEEP SHOWING UP TO CARRY YOU IN EVERY DUNGEON AND BOSS FIGHT. THEY ARE YOUR PAWNS. MERE BIT PLAYERS IN THE GRAND PLAY THAT IS YOUR LIFE."
>"pls pick up 3 piles of chocobo shit for me, you stupid mute ape".
The best JRPG story ever told.
Try the free trial up to level 60 meme. If you don't like it, there's no loss. The story is indeed a slow burn, and at first isn't that great. It really does improve as you go, though. If you do end up playing, go at your own pace, don't rush or burn yourself out.
If you don't end up liking it, no sweat.
>t. 2000 hours on record, started in HW
Try it. Even if you don't like it, listen to the music which is fantastic.
Please get better taste in music
Literally some of the best music ever made. Retard.
You have trash taste lol. Its very generic lol nothing we havent heard a million times before.
I'm sure you'll tell us what truly amazing videogame music is that isn't generic and mediocre. Oh wait, that would out you as the shitposter you are.
Quick, parrot the approved contarian music that makes you think you'll fit in.
FF14 literally has the largest and most varied OST out of any game ever. There isn't a single game you can name with greater variation.
I should also add people like you are the reason we have such mediocrity in art nowadays. People like you consume the most mid tier shit and think its soooo amazing.
>universally praised music
>that one nobody anon calls it shit
We've got a hipster loser here.
Say it with me now
S-H-I-T T-A-S-T-E
So I guess Uematsu has shit taste too for choosing Soken as his protege and as the one who surpasses him?
>universal acclaim
That literally means nothing. People like you will eat up whatever garbage you are given because you dont bother to look for stuff on your own. Please search out shit on your own look at random labels.
Heres some random jap music thats much better than your trash compositions. I already know you will claim these are 'shit' too lol.
I feel bad for spoon feeding you too considering you all are too lazy to scavenge for shit yourself.
I can't tell if this is an ironic shitpost or you're actually being serious.
Assuming you're serious, you didn't actually prove or disprove anything.
Like why are you, a random nobody, an authority on what is "good" music? You're going against the grain and calling composers like Nobou Uematsu "shit" without even elaborating.
You then post music that is completely different and not even composed for a game, which is like the stereotypical hipster music picks.
Like if you're being legit serious, you're flat out mentally handicapped and not capable of basic human interaction.
Logically you would't least use comparable music (preferably music composed for games).
You would also have done what you claimed said FF14 music didn't. Post something that isn't "generic" and "mid-tier" (which are fallbacks people incapable of critical analysis and of properly articulating something ALWAYS falls back on).
You're so absolutely atrociously bad at this that at this point I would have to do your work for you (to try and play devil's advocate), but I can see you wouldn't appriciate that so why bother. You're just here to talk down to people and shitpost, without contributing anything.
Like clockwork lol. I post stuff that is better and you immediately shoot it down. This conversation is over.
Anon, since you lack self-awareness. You're the one that did it "like clockwork".
I even broke it down for you, but since you're so close-minded you fall back on shitposting. The only thing you know how to do.
Leave actual conversation and critical analysis to the mentally mature, you're not qualified for it.
Please learn how to search for more music anon. I actually feel sorry for your kind you dont even bother to look for cool stuff you expect it to be handed to you. Or maybe you are just too lazy? Idk but whatever the case is i really do feel bad for you.
>Please learn how to search for more music anon
This is one of many problems you displayed.
You accused a game you basically know 0 about to only have generic/shit/mediocre music. including accusing composers like Nobou Uematsu of this.
Since you're not an authority on what is good/bad music (which you think you are), you would've needed to give yourself some credibility to at least post videogame music that did what you claimed it didn't do (unless you're clueless about videogame music, i.e. you need to take your own advice).
You then posted not only a completely different type of music (i.e. not one designed to fit a specific scene, event or what have you, like a piece made for a movie or game is), but also that is the most generic hipster music choices possible of mostly similar music.
So to break it down
>you didn't articulate the actual issues with the music
>you didn't provide comparable music that solved the issues you claimed
>you didn't give yourself any credibility for calling universally acclaimed music and composers (including Nobou) "shit" and "generic"
>you didn't demonstrate that you had a wide array of different and 'unique' sounding music (instead most likely picked from a very particular style you personally enjoy listening to, which is frankly irrelevant)
>you demonstrated a complate lack of open-mindedness and ability to actually discuss a topic with others, instead falling back on repeated shitposting
Now you will obviously now reply with another brief shitpost, since you're so mentally immature you have to get the "last word" to feel like you "won" the discussion, even though you only embarrased yourself.
Lol ur so mad
You could've tried a bit harder than that. I'm frankly dissapointed, but not surprised.
You were the one writing actual paragraphs and taking it so seriously lmao.
Paragraphs which takes like 30 seconds to write. Giving people the benefit of the doubt of taking them seriously is clearly something you don't think you should do, since you prefer to shitpost.
All I feel is pity, mainly for your parents. But since you clearly have no interst in discussion, I won't waste time on your desperate attempts at seeking attention.
Lol hes at it again
It's funny how your samefagging shitposters think you're somehow convincing anyone and not just embarrassing yourself by acting like someone with the mental maturity of a 9 year old.
Also breaking global rules.
>cope level: Extreme
Not sure why you think I'm coping when I kept proving how correct I am and no one was able to refute anything I said.
All you're doing is stroking my ego by being incapalbe of proving me wrong or yourself correct.
Every shitpost you make just cements this simple fact.
>the music refutes itself
kek
I provided arguments, reasoning and examples clearly illustrating the points made, even with timecodes. You didn't do anything but shitpost and flaunt your insecurity.
If anyone is upset here, it's you. Or maybe you're just lonely and desperate for attention.
Regardless, all you're doing is stroking my ego with every post you fail to refute my points. Unfortunately, I don't like to give attentionwhores the attention they seek.
>if I use enough words, then my lack of musical understanding will go away
kek
The game has tons Nobou Uematsu music.
You also failed to mention what amazing videogame music is that isn't generic and mediocre is. As in providing a list that isn't just the normie list.
As in proving that you do in fact have "taste", which you so far have not proven at all. In fact you're in the minority, since as has been stated, the music from the game has universal acclaim.
You're basically saying "Hanz Zimmer and John Williams are shit", not elaborating and then patting yourself on the back for having "good taste". Hilarious.
>The game has tons Nobou Uematsu music.
Who the fuck wants remixes?
>remixes
They're original compositions, ignoramus. A metric fuckton of them.
I bet you would all call them shit as a kneejerk reaction if it wasn't pointed out it was composed by him as well.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Final_Fantasy_XIV
People on this board truly are the most ignorant people around.
Cope music-let
Soken is the best in the world r ight now.
No, it's a dress up multiplayer "game".
Not him but FFXIV's music is tracks that are 1 to 2 minutes long and loop constantly and become annoying pretty fast. They also remix the same melody over and over with little variation. I can only hear Ishgard/Dragonsong for so long before I just mute the music. Also, there are a lot of obnoxious pop songs. I hate pop music. The soundtrack is all over the place and does not have an identity. I'd much rather listen to WoW, where the tracks last for longer than 2 minutes and usually don't reset upon entering a new zone and the whole soundtrack feels cohesive. Also, no pop music.
>They also remix the same melody over and over with little variation
It's called leitmotif and is used by many many games, movies and what have you.
>The soundtrack is all over the place and does not have an identity
It does. The main narrative music are all consistent.
But for specific dungeons or bossfights they try to make it fit tonally and contextually, which is good.
For example, when you reach the final area in the Heavensward story where the stakes are really high and it takes place in a sealed away, highly advanced and strange/mysterious location from a dead civilization, I'd say the music fits really well.
For the leitmotif thing, you can hear it in different music, here are 2 boss tracks as an example
(leitmotif at the start)
(leitmotif at 1min)
Doing this helps create coherent sounding music. Giving each expansion an identity. But they also often connect it to the main theme or other music tracks where it contextually makes sense, to cone again connect the music narratively and also to create a more coherent sounding whole.
You then have music that is more distinct, to fit contextually. Like this is more o less a mongol steppe, so the music fits
But you then have another area in another expansion that takes place in an ancient and mysterious forest
Or a more hindu themed Indian dungeon
Each fitting their area well contextually. Going for a more standard fantasy sounding music wouldn't fit that Indian one, for example.
And the pop music takes of a very low track count. If anything, rock tends to dominate more for certain trials.
>BWAHHHHHHH synth
>HOLY KEKKERINOS
>JAUNTY RIFF!!!!
>my upvotes sister...
>mongol steppe "fitting" song is a goddamn enya song
