Is this going to vanish once Generation 10 comes along?

Is this going to vanish once Generation 10 comes along? I hate that GF is trying to make each game unique with focusing on a different mechanic from the previous game. Why not introduce a gimmick and build upon it rather than removing it? THIS COMPANY MAKES NO SENSE

    Obviously.
Need more shiny new gimmick forms so they can shiil more Pikachui, Gengar, and Charizard merch.

Because people who actually play the game enjoy the mechanics being different each time while people like you who pretend to play the game keep dreaming over fanfics.

We could have gotten stuff like mega ghodengo, mabostiff and mitotic if they stuck with it

Megas are a dry as frick gimmick, "extra stages" tend to look like shit outside of mons that accommodate it and it resulted in outright cancerous growth.

megas are the most popular gimmick of all so of course they'll come back

Not likely as the main gimmick, expect sm 2.0 at best megagay.

        >im-fricking-plying
Sugi ended up getting artist's block as he COULDN'T figure a way to make a flygon arsepull "evloution", without fricking the whole line unsalvageably in his mind. It's easy for armchair designers of /vp/ to say "dey kud maek moar", but for the artists that have to sit down and actually try and add an extra stage to a finished line AND make it marketable within the parameters of the series, it turns out a lot fricking different in reality.

He shouldn't even be actively doing the art, he should be in a supervisory role at best. homies old. He's not gonna be able to bring much of interest to the table this late in the game, the new blood should take over.
Masuda and Ishihara have both gone to less active roles, I think it's time a lot of the old guard at GF did so.

Doubles were a major advertising point for R/S. Just because something is a gimmick doesn't mean it's bad or worthless.

            Anonymous

The only reason doubles are still around are because they're the objective fastest competitive format under VGC rules that Smarr Indee Company can handle developing for, even.
With how nonexistent they are in the campaigns, you can really tell they want to kill them off, but then VGC would become ten times longer because of how slow and stale singles is for competitive play on actual hardware.

Honestly i think they just never used triple battles anymore because the game's performance was going to be so bad that it wasn't even worth it.

That is the general theory yeah.
SM already runs like shit in doubles, i feel like thats the general thought.
Definitely helps they never pushed it.

No but basically every game up till that point added major mechanical shifts.
Pokemon can't just add mechanic on mechanic anymore, which is why rotational gimmicks are needed.
Even ignoring how megas felt like shit from the start, z+mega was incredibly bloated.

        >Because people who actually play the game enjoy overpowered CHARIZARD forms ruining the meta
        go back
        [...]
pretty convenient that they never get "artists block" when it comes to CHARIZAD

Charizard didn't come from the digimon gen so digimoning him is pretty easy.
I say as blaziken basically just went further digimon but eh.

It makes sense for a fast pipeline series to rotate gimmicks to keep it distinct.
Tera actually fits this bill perfectly, when the inevitably results in a sort of rotation; i'd wager only tera would actually come back intact of the few we have.
Well as a main gimmick, i just don't think dyna or zs really worked for what they clearly want.

Megas are pretty transparently a marketing vehicle and it actually worked because it shilled fan favorites with new designs that have a permanent and large effect on battle.
Z-Moves are a marketing vehicle that failed (no kid is unironically doing z move dances much to GF's chagrin)
Gigantmaxes/Dynamax failed even harder as a marketing vehicle because of how restrictive they are and how all it amounts to is a shitty burst mechanic.
Tera is just GF desperately trying to make a gimmick that's balanced for once. If we really get special Tera forms it'll just be megas pt 3.

It's so funny how Z-Moves only functioned the way they are because GF wanted to ape the unfathomable success of Yo-Kai Watch's Gera Gera Po dance, only for it to not catch on in the slightest with EVERYONE mocking the poses and moves the humans have to make.

I mean they did around sm release so i have to wonder.
Eh just vp things. I do think trends do show the whole "dauntless gamefreak" concept being thrown around is strange and sm is one of the bigger pieces against it.
The other being the sudden BotW mimicry, thats a lot of work for supposedly feeling very safe.
