No, it's trash. I gave it 6 fricking hours of my time to give it the best shot possible and I just cannot justify it. The characters are shit, the story is shit, the combat is no-skill hack-and-slash, and the loot system is fricking dire.
Sort of. It's difficult to explain.
It's the kind of game where the story just doesn't make a lot of sense until certain revelations occur, which alter those scenes in hindsight.
There's very little story anyway, it's an action game. You get maybe 5 minutes of cutscenes for every half hour or hour of gameplay.
I'll add to this that you need to overlook a lot of execution in order to enjoy the story, although it is good, especially if you've played it at release and didn't expect much going by the trailer
The whole story kicks ass, but because of the nature of it being a cyclical timeloop plot with the protagonist being simultaneously partially amnesiac but also intentionally concealing what he knows, you need to get to the payoff for all of the buildup to really hit.
No other game will ever be able to pull off the ENTER WARRIOR OF LIGHT + FF1 intro payoff at the end of Different Future. Certainly not a game made by Square.
No, but you should keep in mind that this is a very budget title, whereas most Final Fantasy games are very AAA type of affairs.
There are a lot of references to other Final Fantasy games, but it's all aesthetic or name. You aren't expected to know much going in. No Final Fantasy games are connected.
1. This is not really a final fantasy game. It's a spinoff made by another dev (Team Ninja), who made Nioh, and more, recently Wo Long. This game borrows a lot of stuff from Nioh.
2. Even the mainline final fantasy games made by square are barely related to eachother.
So no. This game is basically a reimagining of FF1, so if you have played that you might get a chuckle or an onions face out of some reference, but not more than that.
it's a PS2 kino game made for the 2020s. It's perfectly cringe yet one of the best final fantasy games that ever graced us. It's essentially what Tactics was when it came to strategy RPGs for FF. This is the definitive action FF game.
What does popularity have to do with it, there's no discussion going on meaning people don't care for it, it's just jarring compared to how many "lol chaos" threads there were beforehand
There have been numerous threads for it going to bump limit with plenty of discussion, it's just not some kind of live service game that always has something new to talk about, threads nowadays are mainly new players looking for advice and those tend to die at some point
I'm not a anon but a good way to tell if a game Ganker recommends is worth it or not is if it keeps getting fresh discussion a good while after release. A game that generates disparate opinions but keeps getting threads is often times better than a game which is unanomously praised by the only five dudes that played it but nobody actually wants to talk about.
This is especially true on this board of all places, which is rife with contrarians and hipsters.
no
plenty of dogshit gets discussed to death while niche stuff gets no threads
you're just completely wrong

This game is a full on diablo like hack and slash with all the build and loot autism on top of having Nioh combat
It's definitely not for everyone but if you like that shit then it's amazing
So it has the loot autism of Nioh but it actually goes towards defined builds instead of just number goes up? Yeah I know Nioh NG+++ the loot starts to matter but I never reached NG+++++++++++
It runs okay if you have a decent system, not optimized but playable. Soul burst (finishing move) will drop a few frames almost everytime, but you have invincibility during it so it doesn't affect gameplay that much. If you're not satisfied with it you can try SpecialK to remove particles from SB or hair from characters among other things to push framerate higher
As for builds it's still has the problem of Nioh where the loot doesn't matter until Bahamut (NG++), but you can skip that and NG+ almost completely due to the way DLC1 works (though you'll have a harder time because of the massive spike from skipping 2 whole difficulty tiers)
I enjoyed it for a bit but dropped it because I spent more time swimming through loot than I did playing the game. The loot filter system is also not good at all.
Finishing the base game unlocks Chaos difficulty (non-DLC postgame) plus an additional DLC mission at the chaos shrine
Playing the DLC mission immediately unlocks Bahamut (DLC1) difficulty even if you did nothing else on Chaos.
It has that issue on consoles too, some worse than others. PS4 version on PS5 runs best for consoles, but PC with a CPU strong enough to not get strangled by poor optimization is probably the way to go.
Yes
I liked it and I didn't care for Nioh 2
>Frick Chaos, all my homies hate Chaos
Damn no drip blm hat in the game
No, it's trash. I gave it 6 fricking hours of my time to give it the best shot possible and I just cannot justify it. The characters are shit, the story is shit, the combat is no-skill hack-and-slash, and the loot system is fricking dire.
Chaos
Yes. Fun gameplay until the end of the credits, Jack and Astos are really great, and the story becomes extremely good in the last 10% of the game.
A lot of people get performance issues on PC, though.
>and the story becomes extremely good in the last 10% of the game.
So 90% of the story sucks? Yikes
Sort of. It's difficult to explain.

Unironically yes.
It's not just a meme game.
Gameplay is fun with a decent amount of depth.
Do i need to play the other final fantasies to play this
No, but you should keep in mind that this is a very budget title, whereas most Final Fantasy games are very AAA type of affairs.

Nah.

No. I don't know why people shill it. If you want to play a Final Fantasy game with action combat go play FF7R.
>I don't know why people shill it
Jack has an extremely autistic cult of personality around him, especially and specifically here.
>I don't know why people shill it
Because its a videogame and not a cinematic walkathon like 7R
Take some of these games ideas and implement them on FF16 and you get the perfect action job class combat for FF
Yes it's fricking great.
We liked it
It's literally Nioh infused with mid 2000's Linkin Park in a Final Fantasy skin.
You had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
yes
Better than FF16 at least.
but team ninja has always played second fiddle to itsuno, what changed?
>what changed
NG3 being mediocre and Nioh being the moneymaker for KT.
Maybe after Rise of the Ronin we'll get a good NG again.
You're bait posting, but the two aren't comparable.
FRICK I didn't upgrade my Serval, and now I'm stuck on MoC Stage 2 because she's my only lightning unit.
it's fantastic
throwing your enemy so hard on the wall that it explodes in a million blood crystals will never stop being satisfying
Considering how many threads there were prerelease and then when it came out there were almost none I don't think so
the frick does popularity have to do with quality?

read up on the definition of popularity

We were all busy playing it.
It had threads reaching bump limit after release, every DLC and at steam rerelease, the frick are you talking about
SoP threads are probably the most successful and on topic threads Ganker ever had
bullshit
He said the thing!!
This game is a full on diablo like hack and slash with all the build and loot autism on top of having Nioh combat
It's definitely not for everyone but if you like that shit then it's amazing
How well/poorly does it run?
So it has the loot autism of Nioh but it actually goes towards defined builds instead of just number goes up?
Yeah I know Nioh NG+++ the loot starts to matter but I never reached NG+++++++++++
You re gonna get small eye bleed at game
visual start and fps dancing until you more or less set it in settings
It goes toward defined job Affinity perks, effects , rarity and blessings once you hit the item level cap (500)
It runs okay if you have a decent system, not optimized but playable. Soul burst (finishing move) will drop a few frames almost everytime, but you have invincibility during it so it doesn't affect gameplay that much. I still like The last dlc poster
Inqbittorrent yes
Yes. If you don't like you're literally chaos.
Chaos
Better than FF16 (or FF15, or FF14, or FF13)
It's the best FF game by a landslide
It's okay.
its the best final fantasy game
I thought so.
not really.
I enjoyed it for a bit but dropped it because I spent more time swimming through loot than I did playing the game. The loot filter system is also not good at all.
maybe worth a pirate
Finished this in decemeber but didnt play NG+ or DLC. I need to foniahdbthe base game at least once more to move on the DLC, right?
Finishing the base game unlocks Chaos difficulty (non-DLC postgame) plus an additional DLC mission at the chaos shrine
Playing the DLC mission immediately unlocks Bahamut (DLC1) difficulty even if you did nothing else on Chaos.
It's an actual action game unlike all the other recent squareslop
Framerate on PC can be kinda dogshit at times. Change it to 60FPS rather than 120FPS and it clears up well enough.
Bought it to play with friends yesterday and it isnt bad, even on Hard. No idea about solo play but it aint bad with your buds.
Oh, yeah, I also dropped it because of the FPS on PS5. Fricking awful.
It has that issue on consoles too, some worse than others. PS4 version on PS5 runs best for consoles, but PC with a CPU strong enough to not get strangled by poor optimization is probably the way to go.
Runs fine with DXVK on linux.
yes
its good if you dont play a lot of games
Wdym
It's literally a game made for gamers. That's why normalBlack folk didn't like it
the exact opposite of the truth
