What did you not like about Pillars? If it was the endless purple prose numa numa is much worse
Shitty boring combat that sucked
Goofy companions are better than boring ones
I liked that you can talk/sneak around basically all the fights. Or you can just plow right through them grug style.
The companions are all snowflakey odd ducks and none of them are really likeable. That said I didn't run with the schizo mage, schizo fighter, or edgy blue skin chick.
I liked it, but I can't remember anything that happened, so that's not a great sign.
If you expect it to be what it was supposed to be, which is a successor to Planescape Torment, you will be dissapointed.
If you go into it with a clean slate, its relatively fun. I cant really rate it cause i was young in the times of baldurs gate, so i have too much experience to enjoy anything.
This but add
If you go into it knowing the P&P system then it is stripped down and lacks so very VERY much as far as character building goes
Not a RPG, not a good game. Shitty bootleg of a shitty "game".
I don't like how much of the character progression is based around improving combat ability in a game where you don't fricking fight. Also theres no fricking reason to play warrior or jack over mage
>purple prose
Yes?
It's an odd game with a very strange system. If you go in knowing how to play Cypher/Numenera then it's easier to play and have fun even if they changed it around. The world is a give and a take it looks cool but it's still just "magic" at the end of the day. Also the party members are all unlikable asshats. I do like how you can beat the game or the vast majority of the game through dialogue checks.
Better than PoE but still forgettable.
Yes. Combat is crap but the Dying Earth style setting opened the door for a lot of weird character ideas etc. Not as thematically cohesive as Planescape.
The gaybag who wrote this book also wrote one of the companions.
How long has it been? 12 years? Rothfuss is a joke
Glad to see I'm not the only Rufus disrespecter here.
Doing god's work, boys. Patrick Rothfuss is a fricking hack.
This would have been much less sad had it not specifically involved him admitting he's never smashed and will never smash, but at least he makes her laugh, which is...
I dropped this book, looks like I dodged a bullet!
Just play Planescape Torment instead.
It's basically Planescape Torment but with 7/10 writing instead of 9/10 writing. The biggest difference is that the companions are really boring.
Will there be any surprises for me if I already finished PT twice or is the plot the same merely rehashed in a new setting?
Plot?
Yeah absolutely. It's not a rehash of the plot from Torment.
It has major flaws but I think it's worth playing.
No. Huge walls of text that basically amount to "look how weird this thing is!", very little actual gameplay.
grossly underrated imo. Was the next best thing to PST until disco elysium came along. Very much enjoyed the writing and the dynamic and mystery of chasing after the villain. Are some cool moments with companions, one in particular I find very memorable - anyone wanna guess what it was?
It's a good book. I am also pretty sure it caused me some eye damage at the time I played to prolonged strain of reading it. The setting is very interesting and creative. The main story is decent and has some nice moments, but its never super amazing. To an extent, it felt as if the setting got underused, as you really only visit a couple of locations. Can't really be more detailed due to spoilers.
