It just seems like they sort of do the same thing. Finish your basic 1-2-3 rotation and then you get to hit another button. I guess Atonement gives MP back, so are you meant to have some stacks ready if you need to spend MP on healing or something? Stuff like Goring Blade just seems tacked on as well, you already press Flight or Fight automatically every minute, why isn't Goring Blade just included in that to decrease button bloat? Most jobs I've tried besides BLM feel pretty bloated an unsatisfying to play, particularly the tanks.
With PLD you do 123, hold atonement, do 12 and then you spend your Atonement and Holy Spirit. You do this so you always have a stack of hard hitting attacks for when FoF comes up and for party buffs.
I spend Atonement first in between buffs so you can always have a good ranged attack in the form of Holy Spirit to avoid mechanics. Since you have that you can also save your gap closer for your buff window for some damage.
I like PLD because of the utility, the aesthetic and the fact that it's one of the two jobs left that have an identity. Saving the day with a Cover and a Clemency when things are dire feels amazing.
Also Passage of Arms is the coolest skill in the game.

I really liked the Magic Phase <-> Physical Phase we used to have. The current one is fine, but you don't really get the sense of it being magical and physical, it's just kind'a both.
I think that's because wow raiders can easily just get crafted gear, food and pots then raid. It's not that simple in wow, you have to prepare for months before the raid even comes in order to competitively race for world first

Why even mention top 50 if you don't mean that wow players can play XIV at the highest level? Anyway, the point still is, that in order to raid Mythic in wow, you need to play the game much more than to step into Savage in XIV.
If a raider in XIV enjoys playing XIV, he can't just sub to wow and hop into the newest raid every night, you need to do heroic and M+ for gear first and spend a ton of gold for consumables.

A few million gil per raider is miniscule when you compare it to wow where you need to gear all 20 raid members in M+ and Heroic before going to Mythic.
A friend of mine bought me a full set of crafted gear+melds when I first raided in ShB. If I had a friend who wanted to raid, I could easily afford to do the same for them. You can't just buy the required gear in wow, unless you count heroic boost runs, but even those are more difficult/expensive to get on the first weeks. It's simply way more effort to start raiding Mythic in wow than Savage in XIV

Yeah, if you're into savage then it seems like a great tier so far, less DPS check heavy more mechanically heavy (currently progging p11s), story has been dogshit since 6.1, and the rest of the content is also kinda drip fed in a far weaker state than previous expansions. Like holy frick there's not even Bozja/Eureka this time around, that shit gives longevity to the game, both from a solo player's perspective, as well as the communities that it spawned. It's sad but I'll be unsubbing when I get 4-8 p12s clears and get SAM weapon, until at least 6.55-6.58 or maybe even 7.0.

In HW you ended a thousand year war and killed an Unsundered Ascian. In SB you cause the downfall of the global superpower and found NATO. These are pretty big events, as big as it could have been until we started dealing with the the end of two worlds in ShB and the end of the universe in EW.

I had it for the PS2, but dropped it pretty quick. A year or so ago I got the Switch version to give it another shot, and made it a lot farther but still not all that far, and put it down again. Nothing about that game grabs me or makes me want to stick with it, which is impressive because I'm such a sucker for job classes I prefer X-2 to X.

Your mandatory first player experience is being thrown into the Battle for Azeroth expansion, a world full of characters you know nothing about constantly kissing your feet for being a hero of the world. The game makes no effort to welcome you into the world. It's like starting to read a book from the middle.
The first dungeons you do used to be level cap dungeons, lazily scaled down. So the learning curve (learning cliff) is steep as frick because the game expects you to deal with mechanics your class likely won't even have the tools to deal with because you're too low level to even have access to the tool, like dispels and interrupts. And if that wasn't enough, the community is too fricking consumed by the game to even entertain the notion of someone not playing the game for at least a decade by now, so expect to get kicked at the smallest slight with no warning whatsoever.

I don't really see that. I played WoW for about 15 years and when I switched to FFXIV I found the environments, while different, were no less detailed than anything in WoW. I also noticed that their soundtracks were generally alot better across the board.
Meanwhile WoW no longer really has a story, and that was its biggest deal for me. It already kind of a campy saturday-morning cartoon type of deal, but at least it tried and you were excited to go and see Northrend, you know? Now it's dead. There's literally nothing for it. The people paying attention to it are people who literally do not participate into society and are completely unhinged from reality.
Meanwhile, FFXIV has a very elaborate world and a story that its managed to keep interesting, which is a huge challenge. I am still 100% more comfy in FFXIV, even with its faults, and I personally prefer it, though I do see how WoW could still attract people.

I never got the appeal of MoP, I personally think all of their zones were cluttered and aged horribly. I did like Krasarang Wilds though.
WoD had great zones that were never utilized to its full potential because of corporate mismanagement, so you ended up with these zones that were almost completely empty. Talador legitimately felt like a zone dev just took a shit, that's something that I've not really encountered in FFXIV, all of the systems there are still relevant and people still use them, they didn't just abandon development on a whole fricking zone.

It just seems like they sort of do the same thing. Finish your basic 1-2-3 rotation and then you get to hit another button. I guess Atonement gives MP back, so are you meant to have some stacks ready if you need to spend MP on healing or something? Stuff like Goring Blade just seems tacked on as well, you already press Flight or Fight automatically every minute, why isn't Goring Blade just included in that to decrease button bloat? Most jobs I've tried besides BLM feel pretty bloated an unsatisfying to play, particularly the tanks.
With PLD you do 123, hold atonement, do 12 and then you spend your Atonement and Holy Spirit. You do this so you always have a stack of hard hitting attacks for when FoF comes up and for party buffs.
I spend Atonement first in between buffs so you can always have a good ranged attack in the form of Holy Spirit to avoid mechanics. Since you have that you can also save your gap closer for your buff window for some damage.
I like PLD because of the utility, the aesthetic and the fact that it's one of the two jobs left that have an identity. Saving the day with a Cover and a Clemency when things are dire feels amazing.
Also Passage of Arms is the coolest skill in the game.

A friend of mine bought me a full set of crafted gear+melds when I first raided in ShB. If I had a friend who wanted to raid, I could easily afford to do the same for them. You can't just buy the required gear in wow, unless you count heroic boost runs, but even those are more difficult/expensive to get on the first weeks. It's simply way more effort to start raiding Mythic in wow than Savage in XIV

Yeah, if you're into savage then it seems like a great tier so far, less DPS check heavy more mechanically heavy (currently progging p11s), story has been dogshit since 6.1, and the rest of the content is also kinda drip fed in a far weaker state than previous expansions. Like holy frick there's not even Bozja/Eureka this time around, that shit gives longevity to the game, both from a solo player's perspective, as well as the communities that it spawned. It's sad but I'll be unsubbing when I get 4-8 p12s clears and get SAM weapon, until at least 6.55-6.58 or maybe even 7.0.

1 plat was set up before Hector's guide, it's tight but also helps people think about their spots during bonds 3 since it's roughly the same room to work with.

Yeah, I loved Tactics and thought the setting was great for it. But I didn't like Tactics Advanced, A2, or XII despite trying all of the games. I've tried to get into XII so many times. I had it for the PS2, but dropped it pretty quick. A year or so ago I got the Switch version to give it another shot, and made it a lot farther but still not all that far, and put it down again. Nothing about that game grabs me or makes me want to stick with it, which is impressive because I'm such a sucker for job classes I prefer X-2 to X.
The only game that took place in Ivalice that I liked was the original FFT.

Your mandatory first player experience is being thrown into the Battle for Azeroth expansion, a world full of characters you know nothing about constantly kissing your feet for being a hero of the world. The game makes no effort to welcome you into the world. It's like starting to read a book from the middle.
The first dungeons you do used to be level cap dungeons, lazily scaled down. So the learning curve (learning cliff) is steep as frick because the game expects you to deal with mechanics your class likely won't even have the tools to deal with because you're too low level to even have access to the tool, like dispels and interrupts. And if that wasn't enough, the community is too fricking consumed by the game to even entertain the notion of someone not playing the game for at least a decade by now, so expect to get kicked at the smallest slight with no warning whatsoever.

I don't really see that. I played WoW for about 15 years and when I switched to FFXIV I found the environments, while different, were no less detailed than anything in WoW. I also noticed that their soundtracks were generally alot better across the board.
Meanwhile WoW no longer really has a story, and that was its biggest deal for me. It already kind of a campy saturday-morning cartoon type of deal, but at least it tried and you were excited to go and see Northrend, you know? Now it's dead. There's literally nothing for it. The people paying attention to it are people who literally do not participate into society and are completely unhinged from reality.
Meanwhile, FFXIV has a very elaborate world and a story that its managed to keep interesting, which is a huge challenge. I am still 100% more comfy in FFXIV, even with its faults, and I personally prefer it, though I do see how WoW could still attract people.

i can see the appeal, but the atmosphere just isnt there, dragonflight was a step in the right direction, but to compare a parallel expansion, i think shadowbringers and shadowlands were pretty clear-cut in that shadowbringers was just more structurally sound conceptually and inception

I never got the appeal of MoP, I personally think all of their zones were cluttered and aged horribly. I did like Krasarang Wilds though.
WoD had great zones that were never utilized to its full potential because of corporate mismanagement, so you ended up with these zones that were almost completely empty. Talador legitimately felt like a zone dev just took a shit, that's something that I've not really encountered in FFXIV, all of the systems there are still relevant and people still use them, they didn't just abandon development on a whole fricking zone.
