We all wore suits at my school, optionally you could ditch your waistcoat for a jumper/cardigan or just wear a shirt, and you were supposed to wear your blazer any time you weren't in a classroom but people rarely did.

I used to think it was stupid that schools in fiction would let students dress like that. Then I got a job in a real school. Kids kept breaking the dress code and showing up in outfits like that either as an excuse to go home early or to just fight back against THE MAN. Principals pretty much gave up enforcing it. Also gave up enforcing discipline which led to the students going absolutely wild, but that doesn't have anything to do with the dress code theme of the thread.
