if you're really into westerns, they yeah it is
it has its failings as a game, but if you really allow yourself to take it in and go at the pace it wants you to then it's immersive beyond belief
sadly though, cowboy / western games aren't too popular for whatever reason. there are games like Darkwatch, Weird West, Desperados, GUN, Rising Zan, Outlaws, Call of Juarez and maybe a handful more, but there's only like 50 or so by the looks of it, whereas there are hundreds if not thousands of fantasy and sci-fi games
RDR1 is more enjoyable, the only thing 2 can compete with is actual horse breeds/care but the rest of the game (the shooting and story) are fricking downgrades of 1 and actively seek to shit on how it was before

One thing I absolutely hated about RDR2 was the automatic holstering if you were on a horse. Gotta love triggering a massive gunfight and being forced to use my pistols

RDR1. RDR2 is not really very good. Clearly 90% of it was made by Rockstar India.
RDR1 is better for wild west shooting, action, and story. RDR2 is better with hunting and exploration and that's it, also it's not a Western.

It was the biggest disappointment I’ve ever had with a game. Loved the first RDR. Even named my dog Marston after the main protagonist.
Second one plays nothing like the first and is just a slow cumbersome mess that feels like it’s always eager to take control away from the player to force you to focus on something that the game wants to show you.
It’s everything wrong with modern gaming and what made me stop caring about anything Rockstar and to a lesser extent Sony put out.

The big issue here is that Rockstar are some wiener suckers who ignored RDO for GTAO and then killed it. It could have been pretty good shit if they gave it even a fraction of what they did GTAO.
If you like woke bullshit with terrible writing then I guess it's "best" in that area. Revolver and the first game are miles better. GUN is great, The first two Call of Juarez games area solid with the last game Gunslinger being the best. Fallout NV is western themed but is proto-woke so there's that.
