The combat is the best part about the game, killing waves of dummies is not exactly challenging.

If someone literally made SWG with the same exact gameplay just with updated graphics and animations I would no-life it in a heartbeat.

Same with everquest, same exact gameplay and feel but with much better visuals and character customization, literally all I need to lose the rest of my life living in a virtual world.

EverQuest Next was in development. Sony had finally decided to put money into it again. They made Landmark so that players could figure out the creation tools and possibly make additions to the game. We were almost there... And then Sony sold SOE off to Daybreak, the homosexuals that run that company said they played it and it wasn't fun, and then everything was cancelled. EQ Next NEVER EVER. Landmark SHUT DOWN. Dev studio GONE. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OUR TIME AGAIN, EQ BROS. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OUR TIME.

            Anonymous

No - a bunch of former EQ Next developers are making Ashes of Creation. In other words, a bunch of devs who have never released a game are making another game that has yet to release. I was initially interested to see what they could do, but the fact that most of their promotional material is based off of how many garbage mounts and outfits you can buy in their cash shop.. eugh. Frick 'em. My last hope for MMOs is Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. Brad may be dead, but they may stick to his vision.

I 100% lost hope in that game after they started to pander streamers and joined their streams and sucked them off

                Anonymous

I'm happy that I stopped caring long before I saw that. Pantheon has done a couple of pre-alpha events where they've let streamers play to help crowdfund the game, but nothing egregious.

I really do miss EQ era mmorpgs, they were massive open worlds with freedom that made you feel part of it and want to live in it.
I hop on P99 every other month but man I want that same gameplay and world with actual character customization that's all EQ is missing to be my final GOAT before I die.

            >open worlds with freedom

              Anonymous

P99 does fine the issue is no one is trying to create actual mmorpgs anymore and too many devs bend the knee to whiny mentally ill homosexuals who want body type body type 1 homosexual lingo in their games and a "single player" experience.

It's great until you hit the wall on AP and find yourself on the treadmill. After that, the game starts treating you like a caged animal, expecting you to buy boosts and stay logged in 24/7.

You're still a ways off from that, though.

      Anonymous

      >expecting you to buy boosts
What boosts? Are you seriously suggesting that a 50% exp increase makes any difference when we have events right now giving 1000% boosts?

        Anonymous

Level doesn't matter after 62. If by boosts he means selling costumes for silver I'd understand him though.
After they doubled the silver you could get from p2w the price of most end game equipment increased by almost 50%.

          Anonymous

Yeah I know you can p2w with costume selling....even if it's extremely inefficient.
The only real "boost" I can think of is buying the tent to be able to use the villa buff all the time, but that is a one time purchase.

The Kama and Book buffs are so fricking useless it's not even funny. Value pack is only good for selling on the marketplace which you can also easily do as f2p with enough patience and to get all dyes.

            Anonymous

Well this is untrue. Kama is great for lifeskilling and old moon books are qol for not needing a villa pass.
Also value packs give inventory and storage space as well as a lower tax on mp.

Story is convoluted text dumps with walls of made up names and incoherent babble.
They need to lighten up a lot because there are decent plot points, but it's lost in MOUNTAINS of text in a game where everything is next-next-next-sprint-next-next-next-turnin. They're giving you a novel but expecting you to digest it in an ad break.

Although I haven't tried the recently revised simplified main storyline, so maybe they have trimmed a bit there.

But don't worry, former enemy Jasdbhdb and new buddy Pamsdijb will team up as you embark on an adventure across O'L.kasnu% to regain the thirteen Aksnsns of Unessha"
          >Y'know what, how about we just skip to the part where you give me EXP.

The story itself isn't bad but the way it's been presented isn't great, they've been trying to improve that though but I personally couldn't give less fricks about a story. Over focus on story ruined FFXIV.

I already played it 600 hours in the past.
Had a lvl 62 zerker and 61 mage.

The grind became massive so I stopped.
I liked the stuff around combat, like hiring people to work for you at mines and such, gathering resources for you automatically while you do other things, ship building , house building etc. but the worst part was upkeeping all the myriad systems, having to make beer and such to keep the systems going. It started to become a chore.

I disagree that being "forced" to play with others is the point of an MMO. I think the appeal of an MMO is a persistent open world populated by other players that you can choose to interact with but are not inherently forced to in order to progress. I prefer the kind of interaction brought by BDO where you can choose to team up with other people for certain things but outside of that other players will more often be a potential threat instead, depending on their nature.

Personally I got extremely tired of having my progression gated by other players and whether or not they can actually perform or if they ago afk a lot or disconnect or whatever other bullshit. It's tiresome. I've been playing MMOs for 20 years.

what's the point of a persistently populated world if you don't have to interact with anyone in it? the entire reason to have other players in the same instance as you is so you can benefit from their presence when needed.
