Is this the biggest case of a gamingpillar of a franchise that just fell into complete obscurity
back in 2007 to 2013 people couldnt stop talking about Mass Effect, Shepard constantly popped up in best character pols, hundreds of fan videos, memes, lore videos, multiple awards
and now nothing, the remasters released to no aplause and a new game got anounced and everyone forgot about it

Because the games have always been mediocre? Don't get me wrong, the lore and information on species is interesting but it has never been great in terms of gameplay. And it has its semi-broken remasters. And shitty sequels. Why would anyone talk about it if there's nothing going on?
>And it has its semi-broken remasters. And shitty sequels.
so does Halo but in terms of popularity today it completely overshadows Mass Effect while back in gen 7 they where both icons of that generation
Halo has iconic inertia to it. What other game had a million active players at once, other than maybe WoW, if their servers could handle it?
Halo is fricking dead.
Nah, first we need to learn about the Endless. Then it can rest.
>Halo
>Bad remasters
The difference is the MCC has been getting updates for almost 10 years and has been playable without game breaking glitches since 2016
Mass effect shat out a single good game and then a bunch of sequels so bad it made the normie dudebros screaming about cod being epic bacon that filters casuals realize the franchise is dogshit
Ever since they stopped flighting MCC updates the game has become broken again, campaign now has consistent and repeatable crashes to menu and desktop and they only things they added with those updates were dumb player poses and armor pieces that don't fit Halo's aesthetics.
>a new game got anounced and everyone forgot about it
because 3 had a terrible and ending which was followed up by andromeda which was mostly terrible as well aside from the combat
Andromeda killed the franchise
It's plausible that it was assassinated, like many other things these days, in this instance there was that Canadian post about sci-fi writers, disheartening, truly. Situation is deteriorating in unnatural ways. I had personal suspectations that sci-fi works get axed off because of dangerous world altering information, in this case eezo.
But that logic is weak.
The frick is this schizo going on about.
Popular things don't fall into obscurity just because. There're usually reasons.
But there's a reason, ME3's ending is one of the biggest clusterfricks in videogame history, and this was followed by Andromeda, which sucked dick, and then by Anthem, so not only Mass Effect went to shit, but it also proved Bioware itself went to shit.
You, me, and every other person there for it knows this. But don't expect schizoids to accept any of it: "You're talking a lot, but you're not saying anything" is schizo modus operandi.
You know little beyond your presumptions, much like most, and then proceed to unabashedly proclaim your opinion careless of what response it may evoke until your total mass of opinions affects artists, positively or negatively, in this case the latter, and seeing as Bioware was already falling, the blowback merely put more nails into their coffin.
You'd be able to say that you know "something" were you to actually understand the creative processes behind the work itself and each particular decision, but that would need you to actually think or care.
Personally, I'd say ME3 ending is mostly mediocre, and the response to it was irrational and blown out of proportion.
It's mechanically solid, if really primitive and with some hoops. It's lacking in the high expectation department, artistic department, and elaboration.
ME3 artbook shows that it's was a patchwork mess, such as the whole "too many corpses" zone. We're left not with an original ending, but rather mere concept parts.
The Crucible itself is a working concept too, albeit one that ran into typical sci-fi issue of ideas needing to be either properly elaborated, properly dumbed down, or both.
mass effect follows the exact decline of bioware. 2007, bioware was king. by the time 3 and andromeda were around, bioware was nothing. bioware has nothing to do with baldur's gate 3 and people just breathe a sigh of relief, thank god.
ME3's ending was a disaster and Andromeda wasn't doing the franchise any favors.
3 exist. And after that, Bioware were full propaganda to avoid the chances of a similar situation. The "franchise" never had a chance.
Anyone else get a melancholy when seeing these old magazine
Reminding you of a time when you actively bought these because you had excitement for the hobbie instead of apathy and dread
you forget how much backlash me3 got? or DA2? bioware ruined all their goodwill and just took an even bigger shit with andromeda to ensure even the most diehard fan called it quits. if you look at halo bungie released mostly solid games with the only big backlash being the price of ODST, all the problems with modern halo can be blamed on 343 not bungie. with mass effect it's all the fault of bioware which tarnishes the whole franchise
True fans never left. Not bothering with any subsequent works is one thing, but if someone dramatically throws up their arms and leaves like some consumerist, while spewing as much trashy words as they may, they weren't much of an appreciator to begin with.
No such thing as a true bioware fan. Theyve always hopped and skipped through projects. The teams were never the same throughout, unlike other devs. Liking them shows your inability to discern quality. Youre the consumer you seem to rail against, moronic troon.
Nah, I'm just sentimental.
it still baffles me Bioware still exists
EA killed many studios for far less
they still have brand power even after 10+ years of blunders. really speaks to how high their peak was.
Anything american media attempts to push is always overblown trash. Once the media settled down on pushing this shit, it fell out of the public zeitgeist. It was never good.
It wasn't SO terrible so as to call it trash. People like to call things all sorts of insipid words when they aren't that.
It was overblown, thus trash. If a product needs the weight of the israelite run media to promote it, then it was never good enough to stand on its own two legs, ergo trash.
Only if popularity is all you care about, perhaps. It stands on its own well enough, seeing as all those games are complete.
