I have been subscribed to FFXIV every day for over ten years now. I am not exaggerating to say i've never seen the game as empty as it is now. While i don't doubt most will be back day one of Dawntrail to make queue's a nightmare as usual i've never seen an expansion struggle to keep people. Hell the night before Endwalker people were still packed in Bozja doing relic shit. Is it possible caving to the complainers who got filtered by Delubrum Reginae and putting in Island Sanctuary instead was really that catastrophic a design choice when everything else was business as usual? Like some were expected to jump off with the end of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story but 6.0 rolled credits on that story two years ago, its the people who kept going that have vanished in the last two months.
Whats your take on it? too many little let downs like the relic currency dump, no bozja, island letdowns an so on all at once just making people burn out or lose interest or what?

Because in reality, a predatory business practice is when a company creates a problem and sells you the solution, the staple practice of free to play games. A cash shop is bad when the devs deliberately put pay to win items, sell in game currency for real money, or put all the best mounts and costumes behind their paywall. That isn't what exists in FFXIV which is why it stands apart from all other cash shops. But you've never once thought about this, you just repeat what the adults have told you.

No you can't. You can however outspeed it while flying so it is only advantageous at the only start of the expansion. But saying all of the best mounts aren't on the cash shop is a flat out lie when there are mounts you can only get from the mogstation that are objectively better than anything you can get ingame.

I dunno about the actual server load situation but where they fricked up was having the housing zones have a persistent outdoor area cause every copy of those is another zone that has to be active all the time instead of an instance that can be loaded and unloaded

Housing only mattered when you were able to have something other people couldn't, there were only so many large houses per server and on populated ones, even small houses were hard to come by. Auto-demolition was to prevent people who don't even play anymore from sitting on them forever, especially in a time before it was limited to one house per account and people would buy entire wards. Now that the game is finally contracting, housing has become meaningless as a status symbol.
That said, housing should've always been tied to how active you were and the variety of content you did. Make it where the challenge log for each week is massive and the more of it you complete, the larger you can expand your estate. But stop doing the challenge log and your house gets more dilapidated until it's a decaying, run down estate populated by hostile mobs.
I let mine go a few months back after keeping the sub only for that reason. After just letting go it became easier to not care about the game. The only thing that would bring me back would probably be female hrothgar but I don’t have much hope for that especially after seeing how lame/lazy the new class looks

I only sub for events and to keep my house. I haven't done the last two MSQ patches, and I feel pretty bad about it. I used to stay up on patch day and bang out the MSQ in a few hours, now I don't even look forward to MSQ patches. I eve liked what they were doing with Golbez but I just dropped thr game seemingly out of nowhere. This game means the world to me but I think everyone shitting on it got in my head and I just haven't had the motivation to play. I am incredibly excited for DT however, and I'll be watching the upcoming live letter.
the last two patches are the best of the lot to be honest, the final dungeons really fun and so far its a nice transition into dawntrail with the finale teasing the next patches actual "heres a dawntrail intro shit" including new characters.

The game has never felt worse to actually PLAY. Combat and class design was flawed from the beginning yet they have done absolutely frick all to push it in a better direction. I can only imagine the vast majority of people are extremely tired of pressing 1-2-3 combos and Jobs being little more than choosing the RGB value and particle effects of said combo.
Unless Dawntrail attempts to engage with these issues in any way rather than just kicking the can down the road further by adding yet another flashy bloat button onto most jobs' already overstuffed yet utterly mind-numbing rotation, I can only see the game getting deader and deader.

I still dont understand why "hard" dungeons as a concept got removed, the whole point of thenm were that they were made with little effort to fluff out the dungeon list a bit

Barrier. I've bounced between both a bit, but I've found SCH seems to work better for me, at least in p10s. Still doing abysmal in a borderline carried sense, especially in terms of my own dps uptime.
I'm just not really into healing anymore, so i doubt even being on whm would make it better for me.
cleared that week 1 on sge, there are definitely some stuff that gets hairy with sge, specifically dividing wings #2 where the raid splits into 2 platforms, but i didn't really feel like uptime was an issue for me. sch also has ruin2 so it should be easier than sge. which mechanics give you uptime issues? was it single platform bonds 1? hh?

Pretty much everything does. I feel like I'm just overall ineffectual at party support, using my cooldowns properly, etc.
I think it's a combination of trying to juggle healing and dealing with mechanics and it tends to put me in a "wait and see" mode where i just kinda stop casting expecting to need to do something.
the timeline is fixed, so all you really need to do is freely use 1 or 2 cds for raidwides and then if you encounter a mechanic where you struggle to heal, you then shift some cds away for it. uptime is also not important at all until you see enrage, so use that prog period to create your mit plan
the tough healing spots for p10s imo are:
-bonds 1 into ultima (~2:30 into the fight)
-turrets (needs 2 cds and you're safe) into bonds 2 -> line stack + ultima (but you have a lot of time to heal)
-be prepared to sac your other supports if needed and healer lb3 bonds 3
-dividing wings #2 is quite tough, you need shields for sure and then you need to quickly spot heal any dps who had to break the web on the other side, you also can't blow 2mins on this because hh is up
-hh can be rough if your static isn't going to tank lb3 (they really shouldn't), you need to heal up the web breakers, then the raidwide pulses, then the bonds afterwards
-after hh there is another ultima raidwide and then the rest of the raid is free healing-wise, you can choose to save 1 cd for the hh enrage if you wish
if you played sge, i could give you my homework, but since you're playing sch you'll have to figure it out yourself. i'd say most of the time you can soil a raidwide without causing an issue later, except for the webs before hh
oh i also recommend going into fflogs and stealing other people's mitplans if you're too lazy to figure it out yourself, sch is much harder to do than sge because sch players have a very high propensity to chad the frick out of the cohealer, like the amount of schs who use 0 sacred soils is actually disgusting, but it's still possible to find decent schs, just more tedious

I felt like that all during E5-E8, especially because I really liked E8. I wanted to play GNB or BLM and actually started the tier as a temporary replacement for a tank that was out, but eventually the original one came back and a healer quit so I played SCH throughout. I was a terrible SCH and the other healer swapped with me so I could play WHM since it was a lot easier.

I've played FFXIV every day since launch, up until a few weeks ago. I barely touch it anymore, I've been getting my autism grinding fix playing Pokemon instead. There's no reason for me to log in except to raid and reset my house demolition. It's kinda crazy. And yeah, when I logged in today to do the Christmas event I noticed that the event area is fricking EMPTY. It's never emptied out this quickly. It's gonna be a rough time until 7.0.

This. It's why FFXIV is going to suffer big risk during the Dawntrail cycle. Blizzard are shifting into a faster content cycle while FFXIV suffers from long droughts, not just between final patches and expacs but between major patches.

You could compare the complexity of certain Dungeon bosses with ARR/HW EX trials, and I don't want to have to do high-difficulty content while also fighting my own character's clunky "Complex" mechanics to maintain a scrap of higher DPS for 100 homosexuals to boast about "skill" in an MMO.
What I WILL unsub for is a lack of non-standard content. The people who b***hed about Eureka and Bozja back in the day are morons. The people who pretend as if Deep Dungeons aren't also fun are similarly moronic. Anything me and my friends can do together is always a good thing, and the more things we can do that aren't just bread and butter Dungeon/Normal Trial/EX Trial/Savage, the better. Criterion/Variant is better than another generic dungeon, so I'll at least tolerate that we get those instead of Pharros Sirius EX++, but I still demand more of the future than just that.

I'm not that anon but I'd honestly rather they go in the exact opposite direction they've gone and instead of making everyone's buffs all synchronize in two minute windows I'd rather delete parry damage buffs entirely and just make everyone do their own thing in terms of damage. They could design the jobs with a lot more freedom if they weren't constantly having to pigeonhole everything into a two minute loop.

I'm pretty bored overall with the combat system that was in place since shadowbringers so unless there's some other gameplay mechanic that comes in or a combat overhaul then I'll quit after I complete the story and sidequests.
I'll then comeback around the end of the expansion and do the same thing. If there's new exploratory content and I hear good things then I'll resub for that as well.

There really isn't anything to do, and there are better outlets for RP. I've been bored with the game since Eureka ended. There hasn't been another tight-knit community like it. Before BA, the people in Eureka grinding it at its worse all knew eachother. That first wave of into BA before the discord shit, when players had limited choices on who they could bring were amazing. It was the only time I had fun raiding in this game because I didn't have to deal with screeching morons, drama and bullshit.
Class design is worse then ever, SB and ShB did a lot of bad but holy frick EW is abysmal. All in the name of "balance". Frick balance, bring back flavor and class identity. Bring back midcore content and frick mega servers.

The biggest issue with FFXIV is that the devs, once they are set on a direction or decision, will abobawdely fricking REFUSE to change it until a new expansion comes along. Is there an issue with your job that is noticed within the first month of the expansion that makes it unfun? Too fricking bad, your asiatic developers decided thats the way it'll be and they'll change it in 2.5 years when the next expansion comes out. Bozja makes the unique actions more interesting but pretty much everything else about it is vastly inferior to Eureka. No secrets, no treasure hunts, the ugliest fricking zones in the entire game,

took me two months to get through the msq and after i just felt lost and couldn't find a reason to log in, none of the actual game activities interested me much and my glam was already perfect. just felt like game over.
If you're just in it for the MSQs then the optimal way to play is to just sub and play for a month or so ar the end of each expansion.

Sometime around Shadowbringers class design just started to crumble. Classes are becoming homogeneous and they're just removing abilities at random, some of which were essential to the complexity of the playstyle. All because "button bloat."
I played a lot of SAM and while it wasn't really a brain-busting class before the changes they made at the start of EW, those changes absolutely lobotomized it. It's just so boring to play now compared to before.

The story never tried to foreshadow or hint at what caused the original calamity, so no matter what they did it would have been an asspull by your definition. Isn't it enough that some ancient created something that was entirely outside his scope of control and it had unexpected consequences?
The post-launch story hasn't been very good. At all. There was some promise with 6.1 but they fumbled pretty hard after that.
I think the main reasons are Zero being a creator's pet that induces "love her or hate her", and the lack of Eureka/Bozja equivalent while Island Sanctuary was a nothingburger and Variant/Criterion not having enough reward structure support feeling like a massive reduction in content quality and quantity.
Bozja during ShB gave a trial, two zones and 3 alliance raids, and we didn't get those extras in EW patch series, the relic grind being the most boring shit imaginable: a tome grind.
Because most shitters don't play hardcore content so they feel like the endgame is lacking. It's called GETTING FILTERED.

I don't know if it used to be better or worse, but I think the gameplay currently is extremely sterile and soulless. It's more that they removed a content type that worked with two content types that didn't but it comes down to the same thing. There's nothing to do, no grinds for those inclined towards grinding.
Variants and criterions have potential but they definitely could use some work. I'll interpret them adding the glowing tome weapons to Aloalo criterion as a sign that they did listen to the criticism of the lack of rewards which has me optimistic.
Island sanctuary was a fricking failure and I hope it will be abandoned instead of soaking up even more resources.
Ideally we'll be getting 3 variants/criterions, a deep dungeon, and exploratory content in future expansions.
I think we'll be getting exploration combat content again, but the problem with Eureka and Bozja from before will probably remain: we don't get to see them until halfway the expansion cycle.
They could announce that timesink at JP fanfest in two weeks and we won't see the first step until Summer 2025.

EW isn't dead, the problem is there is no current content that actually makes people group and do stuff together outside of maybe alliance raids on tuesdays. Not having a Bozja like area means there isn't any area for people to spend time in the game and to meet new people. I have no idea why Island Sanctuary wasn't design to be more social and rip off the social features of animal crossing or something.

You would have to go to other players islands to get access to certain animals, resources, etc.... You would need to trade with them. For example, turnips don't grow on my island, but to craft something good I need them. So I ask around for someone who does have turnips growing on theirs to visit.
Primarily provides a reason to care about what your island looks likes and would require each island to have some unique features to it. E.g some islands are in a rainy season, others in winter etc...

You farm materials to build the things to sell at the market. You just go around collecting shit to slowly develop the farm, ranch, and market. Then you schedule out the market and get EXP and those blue tokens. That's all there is to it. It's incredibly shallow and obviously suffers from a massive amount of cut content. Likely because devs were taken over to assist with FF16.

Well Stardew Valley provides tons of customization and choices about how you can build your island, and you generally just have a ton of influence over how everything will play out. There also are NPC stories to help motiivate you to continue playing. In Stardew Valley you can slowly discover how your choices can be optimized to make a better farm. In Island Sanctuary you just plant seeds in the predefined "farming area" and wait.
I wasn't expecting a whole lot but it managed to be even more of a letdown than I thought it would be.
Not being able to freely place buildings is vexing but I can understand why, but how come it took so fricking long to let you place outdoor furniture items? That should have been one of the the first features added so there would be a reason to visit anybody else's island.
Oh and of course you can't add gardening pots to the island so you're still forced to interact with the garbage housing system to grow shit. Frick you square enix.
