Highest rated game of the year, best selling game of the year, most perfect scores in history, fastest selling exclusive in history. Seethe more and go play bg3 you neck beard.
Everyone unanimously agrees the game is a rehashed glorified DLC thoughever

>Highest rated game of the year
Are you unaware of the existence of BG3?
yes
Zelda has more reviews than BG3, and therefore has a 'higher' score than it as a result because it has more 10/10's.
...are you forgetting that NOT only was BG3 released on multiple platforms but...it also has a 96 on BOTH????
I think it's combined reviews and score is 152, which is only like 1 behind Zelda if I'm not mistaken
>tried to charge
I'd say they succeeded.
Absolutely incredible game. Enjoyed it so much I didn't want it to be over, so I wound up putting hundreds of hours into it and getting it 100%.
Loved it. GotY for sure.
I put off the final fight in both botw and totk because I didnt want it to end and the main games were so fun and massive. Still have tons of sidequests to do in both and still finding new things.
>look at all these koroks I haven't found yet
You know you can still play these games after the final fight, right?
I'd argue you should probably put off fighting Ganon until you accomplish everything else you want to do in these games.
Definitely not goty. You're just a slop consuming zoomer frick

Why does OP keep making this thread only to argue with himself (this is his post btw ) for hours at a time?
They did the exact same shit with botw too

Do you not see the irony of saying this yet making this exact same thread daily? You literally can't stop discussing it.
Another incredible entry that shows exactly what a sequel should be. Familiar yet every aspect is built upon and every area is changed.
Glad nintendo brought zelda back to being a goty level thing instead of just being an average to mediocre game like it was in the gamecube/wii days.
>Glad nintendo brought zelda back to being a goty level thing instead of just being an average to mediocre game like it was in the gamecube/wii days.
But didn't you say that even the worst zelda is better than every single other game in existence? You yourself said that Skyward Sword was better than Half Life, Quake, Deus Ex, the enter Elder Scrolls series, and any other series to ever exist. How can that be "mediocre"?
Schizo post
>The fact that all discussions of it dried completely up a month after its release
You've made 6 TotK threads today
First Zelda game that bored me so much that I stopped "exploring" at one point and just went to Ganondorf to beat it. Like holy shit, they had so much chances to create a living world and it's still just a sandbox with monster camps.
Erica, yous subhumanity is showing.
>The fact that all discussions of it dried completely up a month after its release
welcome to how things normally work
Tears Of The Kingdom is an astonishing achievement in game design.
One of the things which blows my mind is you can enter a Lookout tower and be instantly shot into the sky. Immediately you can see the entire expanse of the world, the draw distance disappearing over the horizon - without a hint of a loading screen.
That is fricking insane. I can't even go from room to room on my spaceship in Starfield without a loading screen. How in the name of Christ did Nintendo manage this on a toaster tablet?
And this technical wizardy barely registers on the player in amongst the incredible immersive dynamic systems and ridiculous complex attributes of Link's abilities.
It's easy to say that if another competent talented developer was given a decade of R&D and a bottomless pit of cash, they could turn in something similar. But no way in fricking hell would they ever get it running on a Nintendo Switch.
Tears Of The Kingdom is not only an outstanding fun and immersive video game, it's also a towering achievement in game design and coding mastery.
TLDR: People who don't like TotK are infantile morons who have terrible shit taste in video games.

>One of the things which blows my mind is you can enter a Lookout tower and be instantly shot into the sky. Immediately you can see the entire expanse of the world, the draw distance disappearing over the horizon - without a hint of a loading screen.
That's literally bog standard and I don't know why you're acting like it's revolutionary. Like how is that different to getting into a plane and flying into the sky in GTA (which you could do 20 years ago), or getting hit by a giant and being launched into the sky in skyrim
You're only confirming that you do not have a fricking clue about video games.
And TotK's map is about 5 times the size of Skyrim, including multiple levels of skies, surface and underworld all seamlessly connected.
Incredibly impressive for the tiny Switch and that only barely scratches the surface of the coding wizardy TotK offers.
I literally said it. GTA. You can hop into a jet, fly into the sky and skydive wherever you want at way higher speeds than you can in totk. Technologically it's not that special.
Like if you want to praise it for ultrahand or something, I'll give you that. But being able to go into the sky of an open world is normal, it's not new.
You cant make the jet in gta. There is no volcano to sky dive into. There are no sky islands, there is no underground, there arent even any compelling indoor areas in general. It's nowhere close.
That's not what I'm talking about anon. I'm talking about this
>One of the things which blows my mind is you can enter a Lookout tower and be instantly shot into the sky. Immediately you can see the entire expanse of the world, the draw distance disappearing over the horizon - without a hint of a loading screen.

It's acting like its revolutionary when it simply isn't
you can't be shot instantly into the sky in gta where you then find content to explore. It's emptnowhere close.
Erica, that cope isn't working.

>we'll spend over half of our 6-year development time on this stupid physics engine nobody asked for and we won't integrate it into the game in a truly unique or meaningful way like so many other building games do, it's there for you to make twitch or tiktok clips so that you can generate a free marketing campaign for us instead
>we will give you an even worse worse story that's completely incoherent and told 100% in flashbacks because you'll still eat it up

This. It's why TOTK should've let you skip the intro cutscene with Ganon. It's non-interactive and there's no way for you to influence it. It's practically snoy movieshit.
>It's why TOTK should've let you skip the intro cutscene with Ganon. It's non-interactive and there's no way for you to influence it.
Its completely interactive. You have to PLAY it. Any other video game it would be a cinematic opening cutscene where you can put the joy pad down and make a cup of tea.
TotK let's you PLAY it. Your favorite gsme is laughable pathetic dogshit compared to Nintendo's masterpiece and the fact you cannot cope will always be hilarious to me.

Bro I know a guy who was telling me that Zelda would become irrelevant and obsolete in '86 once the normies realized how much better Ultima and Wizardry were.
There's just something about Zelda that causes fanboys of other fantasy brands to seethe.
>There's just something about Zelda that causes fanboys of other fantasy brands to seethe.
I wonder why....
You know Arthur, instead of replying to yourself in a blatant display of samegayging, why don't you answer my question here:
Because Zelda used to be the flagship and spearhead of game design, now it's the posterboy for assetflips and 100s of the same 5-6 generic Ubislop quests dotted around a map.
You say this but you completely fail to acknowledge that the BRAND HAS ALWAYS BEEN DOWNPLAYED LIKE THIS.
You'll still see people today seething about Wind Waker's artstyle or the 'Ocarina formula,' or even how Zelda II plays nothing like the first.
Pretending the new Zelda is bad is nothing new. We call it the Zelda cycle.
Except Zelda has always been mediocre. That's why BOTW had to save it from stagnation.
>Pretending the new Zelda is bad is nothing new. We call it the Zelda cycle.
That's really the issue, there is no "new Zelda", TOTK is a lazy rehash/DLC expansion that somehow took 6 years.
It obviously didn't take 6 years. They spent 2017 working on the DLC. Tears of the kingdom started in 2018, lost a good amount of dev time to covid, and was likely pushed back to fill out 2023 as Nintendo delayed the next console to 2024 for a multitude of reasons. I'd guess about 3 and a half to 4 years of dev time went into it.
>I-it was because of c-covid!!!!!!!!!
Elden Ring stared development after DS3's DLCs in 2017 and managed to release in early 2022.
Also it has x10 more weapons, spells, enemies, bosses and dungeons in the first 1/3 than all of TOTK.
Elden ring, like totk, had the benefit of being able to build off of botw. The physics and creation in totk alone is enough to make it take longer to make.
BOTW and TOTK just use havok physics.
Elden Ring and TotK are not even similar games, comparing their dev time is moronic. Elden Ring is barely an open world game. The open world in that game had very little effort put into it while most of the game's content was in linear sections. The open world in TotK is the main feature of the game. And it's much harder to make open world content than linear content because you need to account for the player going in any number of different directions by flooding the world with content. You can see this in the number of mini dungeons where Elden ring has like 40 and TotK has 150.
ER has 90 unique bosses, 8 huge main dungeons that are x10 bigger than any of the temples in TOTK, 60 mines, catacombs and caves that are way bigger than any shrine.
all false.
You sound trans, btw.
>ER has 90 unique bosses
"unique" as in 20 bosses are some generic looking guy with a sword who attacks in mostly the same patterns but slightly slower or faster with slightly more or less attacks in the pattern. Relatively few of the bosses are legitimately unique, maybe like 20% at most.
Yes, they are.
90 unique bosses (out of a total 160) with at least 10 attack animations/combo each.
Literally as many as DS1+DS2+DS3 combined.
And only 1 is copied from DS, the Asylum demon as an homage.
Unlike TOTK that copied 70% of enemies, bosses/minibosses from BOTW.
>10 attack animations/combo each
all of them shared or only slightly tweaked.
Between the 90 unique ones no moves are shared.
Only the rest of 70 bosses that reskins use the same moves.
>Between the 90 unique ones no moves are shared.
>change timing by one frame
>IT'S A NEW MOVE!
I accept your concession.
You're completely missing what we're saying. The moves are technically different, in that they're slightly slower or faster or the boss will attack 2 times instead of 3 but they are functionally extremely similar in how you approach the fight, the circumstances surrounding the fight and often how they look too. There's nothing inherently wrong with this. It's how you get 90 "unique" bosses in a game and people demand a lot of bang for their buck. But if you're specifically comparing development time it's not hard to see how they were able to make this game in 5 years while the Zelda devs struggled to make an iterative sequel in the same time. Developing a fully functional physics/building system and designing 150 mini dungeons using it is more difficult than making 90 bosses where most are functionally similar.
If you make two bosses and one is a shadowy guy with a sword who attacks quickly twice before slowing down and then attacking slowly for a third time and the other guy is a taller shadow guy with a sword who attacks quickly 3 times before slowing down and then attacking quickly you have not made two unique bosses.
>New console
We have confirmation that a new Switch game (Decapolice) is launching in 2025.
The PS4 still has games coming out. Just because a new console releases doesn't mean the old one is immediately dropped.
>We have confirmation that a new Switch game (Decapolice) is launching in 2025.
That doesn't mean anything. Cross gen always exists. The Switch 2 is obviously coming in 2024, you only need to look at Nintendo's release schedule to know that. At the most recent direct, they did not announce a single original game. They gave new details on the Peach game, and announced the Paper Mario remake and that's it - literally nothing new announced for next year. Either Nintendo has stopped making video games or we're getting a new console. And we know they haven't stopped making video games because their game dev budget has been spiking like crazy. Compared to when the switch came out, they are currently spending twice as much on development.
>They did not announce a single new original game
We don't hear about major new releases in the second half of the year.
We'll hear about new stuff in February.
You're right that they typically announce holiday games in February, however you need to keep in mind two things
First, they typically announce first half of the year games now. Pikmin 4, for example, was announced in last year's September direct. So you would have expected to see at least 1 or 2 big games announced.
Second, the biggest games are typically announced over a year in advance. We've seen this with for example Animal Crossing, Tears of the Kingdom and Splatoon 3. So if they had a new 3D Mario game or something of that scale coming in the next 2=3 years you would have expected that to be announced by now.
Mario Wonder and Princess Peach were announced in June.
You completely missed my point. My argument was not that Nintendo wont announce games at Feburary or June, but rather that they always announce games at September and have very good reason to do so in order to market games releasing in the first half of the year. Yet they announced nothing, a first for the switch's nearly 7 year life. That either means their game development is ramping down or there's a new console coming, and we know game development is not ramping down because they have been massively jacking up their game development budget. There are clearly games coming, they just aren't showing us them and it doesn't take a genius to guess why.
>They announced nothing
Wow... so they'll announce new Switch games next year... like they always do.
>Wow... so they'll announce new Switch games next year... like they always do.
They will announce switch games for the second half of the year next year like they always do. They don't typically announce many games for the first half of the year in February, because that gives them 2 months for marketing. Only shovelware gets pumped out like that. So it's fair to say the first half of 2024 will only have remakes and the peach game. So where the frick is that massive game dev budget going?
>Because Zelda used to be the flagship and spearhead of game design
Still is.
Don't wait for any other developer to make a game like TotK. It's never going to happen. It's too difficult.
Samegayging again Arthur? You need to take your meds.
Erica, your mentally ill troony cope won't save you 😉
Well considering none of them try to frick you like in BG3, I'd say it's far superior out of the two.
Nintendo just fricking loves the copy paste tool, in both gameplay, level design and even cutscenes.
Name one game that hasn't used copy paste
It's a $70 DLC, there's not much to talk about it.

It's gonna be an even longer 6 years this time lol they can't believe nintendo made goty level zelda again
Another thread, another Arthur argument completely destroyed. And it's barely been 100 posts. Normally he at least holds it together until halfway into it. Let's review, shall we?
>every other Zelda is a masterpiece, according to Arthur
>BUT the series simultaneously was stagnant garbage, which is why BOTW had to "save it"
>apparently these Nintendo games are better than 99% of all other games, but if you like any of them, you're a "fake fan"
>the intro to TOTK is 100% interactive, supposedly, and yet you cannot interact with the mandatory cinematic cutscene where Link jobs to Ganon, no matter what. if this was interactive, there'd be a way to avoid Ganon or even kill him at this point in the game. Arthur has yet to answer this.
>TOTK is supposedly a masterpiece because it sold 20 million copies
>yet he says Terraria is shit despite selling twice that, because muh attach rate. Minecraft has an even greater attach rate, but because that doesn't have Nintendo's "cinematic flair" that makes it bad or something
>game journos can never be argued against because they're always right
>and yet Arthur says that BG3 is a shitty game only liked by redditors, and somehow redditors threatened to dox the game journos unless they gave high scores to BG3, which nullifies the score as a metric of quality, if it can be influenced by duress
If you guys are having trouble with Arthur, just ask him to refute any of these arguments. He can't, and he's terrified of this fact. He will reply to my post, calling me a schizo or troony or seething, but he can't say I'm wrong.
You are wrong.
Easy, you can tell because literally everything you say applies one million times harder to animated cinematic 6 😉
Sorry Arthur, I'm afraid I won't be bumping your thread anymore, not unless you dispute

Because it's the Bioshock Infinite of the Zelda franchise.
Extremely overhyped and and complete dissapointment to fans but shilled by journos with 10/10s.
>all discussions of it dried completely up
Probably because every attempt to discuss it was filled with shitposters that made stuff up like it being a gacha game, nothing was new and no dungeons
>Make a game focused entirely on exploration and discovery
>Make a sequel focused on exploration and discover in the exact same map
Bravo, Nintendo
Literally a NG+ remix sold for $70
Next Zelda will be a TOTK item+enemy randomizer mod sold for $80 in a few years.

BOTW is one of the best games ever but god i fricking hate this game. there is no art here, they literally just took literally the exact same game, same map, same atmosphere and just clumsily stapled a bunch of mechanics onto it. that is not how you make a fricking sequel to a zelda game, this is how you treat a sports game or COD or whatever. it's insulting to BOTW which was a truly artfully crafted game. actually frick you nintendo
Why are snoys so mentally ill and subhuman?
It's pretty obvious why. Sony panders really hard to the leftist crowd. Nintendo is based in the more traditional Kyoto so they're less into this stuff and Microsoft is getting fricked so hard they cant risk making people mad so Sony is the main one going after the freaks. Spiderman has a fricking Ukraine flag in it. I guarantee you if it came out during 2020-2021 they would have had Fauci appear in the game.
People would probably talk about it more if it didn't have such a dogshit story. Even loregays don't want to talk about TOTK
>80% repeated content
>20% new stuff is either a gimmick that gets annoying after 10 hours or just straight dogshit
what is the point of this game?
normalgays and autistic schizos love doing the same thing over and over
>what is the point of this game?
Breath of the Wild 2: The Quest for More Money
Zelda is the new Pokémon. Release half assed slop because it has an autistic fanbase that will buy every single game even if it's shit
Not even Pokemon (yet) has dared to make the leap to $70.
>Not even Pokemon (yet) has dared to make the leap to $70.
They have though? Pokemon Sword put 0 effort into the base game then required you to buy the $25 DLC to get the real experience. I'm sure Scarlet will be the same but now the DLC is $35 so it's a $95 game. And that's if you buy one version, a lot of Pokemon fans buy both.
>what is the point of this game?
The building system, the 150 mini dungeons, tons of sky islands and caves, a bunch of new side quests and the depths. There's definitely $70 of game in there.
>150 mini dungeons
>le epic quests
>TONS of sky islands
>definitely $70 of game in there
Name me those other games releasing with 150 mini dungeons. Because neither Skyrim or Elden Ring even got close.
I don't care about 150 slop dungeons.
>building system
cool technically, but you are NEVER appropriately rewarded for using it given the amount of time it takes to make things. i.e the korok things give you just two seeds.
>the 150 mini dungeons
just shrines again. tiny little puzzles that are okay but never enough to be satisying
>tons of sky islands and caves
far too repetitive. there's only a handful of sky island templates, and they lose all novelty by the time you're done with the central hyrule ones. the caves and wells are even worse since they're all the same with a couple of exceptions.
> a bunch of new side quests
probably the most enjoyable part of the game but the writing is pretty frustrating
>the depths
even worse than islands and wells/caves. the same initially cool concept copy pasted 50 times over an entire map, they get boring extremely fast
>cool technically, but you are NEVER appropriately rewarded for using it
They *require* you to use it in the shrines. Most shrines are built around the ultra hand system, it's the fundamental gameplay system of TotK.
half the shrines don't require any real use of it since you can just use ascend or find some other way to halfass it with 0 effort compared to spending ages awkwardly building stuff. even then the content and rewards for shrines are very boring and predictable, it's always just a small puzzle with the same reward at the end
I will agree that health isn't a very satisfying reward, but stamina is an extremely useful reward both making you stronger at attacking and better at traversing the environment.
*le yawn*
the issue is less the utility and more the fact that you know exactly what you're going to get before even entering. progress towards health/stamina upgrades and a chest with an extremely minor item in it, if you're lucky. basically nothing in this game world is surprising or new after the first 10 hours which is really my main issue with it
Yes, disappointed with Nintendo and anouma
>Arthur
Is this the new boogeyman Eric is trying to establish since the Darren psyop failed miserably?
I was really fricking disappointed that there's only like 12~ islands of any substance in the sky. And the remaining ones are tiny copy pasted little specks
I'm a bit pissed off at the story. because the first thing I did in the game was climb to the sword memory on death Mountain where zelda considers sacrificing herself to become a dragon. Then I went to the light dragon's head and find the master sword, and then immediately jumped off it's head and flew to the storm islands above faron and unlocked mineru. This all in the span of like 2 hours, I didn't know any of it was connected but it basically spelled out the entire story to me.
Apparently doing the sword and mineru things first locks you out of a bunch of story content and quest line called "On the trail of the master sword" , and also locks you out of the the ring ruins in kakariko to dispel the storm, and also the entire game's story becomes boring because everyone is constantly asking "where's Zelda? Where's the master sword?" But I fricking knew the whole time. Super lame
so is literally the only appeal for this game on Ganker based the idea that it "heckin owns" Sony fans?
Yes Erictroony. The purpose of my life is to epically pwn all snoys and worship Sloptendo games
>$69.99
people paid $70 for this rehashed crap that you play on a handheld device?
cool console war schizo thread, but how the frick do i beat melissa while getting every non-respawn key item
>The fact that all discussions of it dried completely up a month after its release
Anyone who thinks this is a reflection of a game's quality is a shitposter at best and at worst legitimately moronic.
It really needs to be addressed more how moronic that metric actually is.
It's really not in this case. BotW generated discussion for a long while after release, and not just because of its DLC. There's merit to pointing out how TotK had pretty much the opposite happen with its post-release engagement despite its sales figures.
No, I was there. I remember how people spent the first year or so denying the game was good in order to push Horizon Zero Dawn instead. Exactly like what they're doing now with BG3.
Similar things happened to Metroid Dread and Animal Crossing New Horizons.
meds
>I remember how people spent the first year or so denying the game was good
I would think those people were vindicated after E3 2019 then, because the TotK reveal trailer got people to finally start admitting that BotW had problems and wanted TotK to address them. And now the prevailing opinion after its release is that it "totally obsoleted" BotW.

Blatant samegayging aside, this is just using the same line of logic of LE SALE NUMBER GOOD AND LE METACRITIC BIG THEREFORE GAME BEST. Just in a way that facilitates a conclusion that you're uncomfortable with this time.
Well it IS a bit mystifying when the initial reactions (which were all totally genuine) were "uhhhh Nintendo how the FRICK did you make this game?????" and "every other video game dev is totally stumped about how TotK was possible", only for this amazing immaculate miracle game to just... lose its relevancy quickly.
youre the most shameful thing your mother put out
it's actually crazy that they made this game. i was skeptical on release, I still bought it because I enjoyed botw and wanted to enjoy the sequel despite my hesitations. I played the game for probably a few days and haven't touched it since. it's just the exact same fricking game and more importantly it runs like shit. if they could have improved the performance once they tacked on all this additional shit I might be inclined to play botw 2.0. the entire game is now even more graphically intensive because there's the added layer of being able to move anything on top of a game that already performed poorly just makes it so unenjoyable. also seeing emus playing the game at a higher framerate, lmao. Nintendo really can't fricking cut it in this day and age it's legitimately pathetic.
t. a gamer who just wanted to play a fun sequel
Everyone talks about the Switch's power being so far behind the rest of the industry in general, but nobody wants to specifically talk about how that's been starting to take a noticeable toll on even Nintendo themselves and their partner devs over the past few years, with them starting to hit a wall on performance.
