Is this the most slept on recent Namco game on Ganker? Sure the story takes absurd twist after absurd twist, stuffing as many scifi tropes it can. But the game itself is extremely fun to play (unlike Code Vein) and it has a lot of good characters.

>extremely fun to play (unlike Code Vein)
baity mcbaitington not so subtle
also i enjoyed scarlet nexus and will be playing it again soon probably
Code Vein was only moderately fun. Scarlet Nexus is extremely fun.
I enjoyed Code Vein more than Scarlet Nexus. I can't even bring myself to finish Kusone's route because she's dumb. Also, the ending is lame. The best part of Scarlet Nexus's story telling was in the DLC.
I think I like Scarlet Nexus more because it is an action game like DMC or Sekiro than a slower Dark Souls like game of Code Vein. And if Io was accessible earlier to join the player I might have a higher opinion of it.
SN's combat eventually became a chore of just waiting for abilities to cooldown then spaming them. The beginning bit on high difficulty was quite challenging and fun (it took me multiple tries to beat BFF and Kusone "boss fights" as mc early on), but as you level up, it just becomes how fast can you take down damage sponges? I got so bored of it i set the difficulty to lowest half-way through kusobe's route so i can blast through the combat.
CV was challenging throughout because you'd get fricked up if you're not careful for the whole game.
The only reason enemies seem like damage sponges is because you're using the wrong strategy against them. Seriously every enemy has some strategy around breaking them quickly, and you just have to learn them. That reminded me more of DMC. And late game cooldowns are a non issue unlike early game since you have access to twice as many abilities, but I do agree in general the cooldowns do keep you from going complete cuhrayzee.
I feel like there was little reason not to activate all your powers at once in boss fights.
Well there could be some kind of utility you need like going invisible or hypervelocity so you hold to those, but yeah boss fights were pretty hard in SN so you go all out.
Invisibility had a lot of potential but it came across as quite lacklustre. Clairvoyance felt sort of the same way until you started bonding with her.
Hypervelocity was fricking KINO though, combined with Kyoka's cloning it made some pretty good popoffs.
It always seems that Kasane is hated when normally in JRPGs weebs cling on heavy to the female MC. They really fricked up her character.
Clairvoyance was great if you also equip that one plugin that extends your perfect dodge frames and focus on dodging.
Same. I completed Yuitos side and just didn't give enough fricks to bother with Kasanes story.
Code Vein was fun from start to finish.
I thought Scarlet Nexus was pretty good, I haven't played Code Vein to give an opinion. The main gameplay was fun as frick but I do hope if they do a sequel with Kasane they make her play more like Yuito. Her daggers are just not satisfying.
Kasane's feet in the next game.
I loved Code Vein and hated Scarlet Nexus. Still I'm sure that SN is getting a sequel because Bamco is infatuated with it while pretending that CV never existed.
Really liked the combat system and cycling between different skills and abilities, but my god was the story utter dogshit. Didnt even wanna do a second playthrough as the other character because of it
The combat system was fun (and I really loved how autistic Kasane was), but not being able to cancel animations in a character action game is pants on head moronic. You're busy combo'ing an enemy, see a projectile coming your way, there's NOTHING you can do to evade it in time. If the game was actually hard, it would be dogshit.
Yeah, that really ruined the fun so often, the game has a lot of potential, next time unlock all the abilities sooner and get more enemy variety.
I liked it. Played it last year. Best ARPG from Bamco, for sure. Don't get the hate for the story - sure the pacing feels rushed and it won't win any awards, but I thought it made sense and most characters were at least decent.
I'd imagine a lot of people played Yuito and his story is missing like 30% cutscenes and the hot girl is antagonistic towards him for half of the playthrough, seemingly for no reason, and then the ending doesn't make sense because again he's missing so much critical info.
IMO, the game would've been a lot better if Yuito's route simply didn't exist. It kind of feels tacked on anyway, as the story all revolves around Kasane including the sequel hook.
t. played Kasane first and loved the game
While yes they did need to handle Kasane's drama better, she really a non-chrismatic character that really drains the life out of her scenes. Yuito made for a much better protagonist.
definitely not, Kasane's autism was endearing and her relationship with Shitter was good.
It was endearing when she wanted to see if Yuito would make a good match for her sister so she autistically interviews him. She was not endearing for the rest when her personality caused needless drama.
If Yuito has no personality, Kasane has negative personality. She's just quiet, doesn't really say shit, shows little emotion like a true autist. And the female autist protag is getting pretty tiring. Look at Lavi in the Kiskei anime from last year, literally the same character as Kasane and just as awful while sucking out the life of every scene she gets serious in. Yuito might be have been done countless times, but it's because his kind of character at least lets a fun story unfold.
Hanabi, stop posting.
Yuito literally has no personality, he's just a generic shounen self-insert. He's polite and wide eyed in every scene, always does "the right thing" and so on. You've seen this type of character countless times.
Kasane was much more refreshing. I'm 80% sure that Yuito's route is a result of executive meddling and the game was meant to have Kasane only originally.
Maybe that was also it for me, played as Kasane first.
True, Kasane felt like Sasuke - just a moron being strung along. Although Yuito was way too cool about Kasane murdering his dad.
Only character I didn't like how was handled was Kasane. She just needed to fricking talk to Yuito for 1 minute and like 10 chapters worth of drama about not only if she actually killed his father but why she was also trying to kill him would have been cleared up. Instead she just autistically keeps rushing in. And Nagi, he was also annoying though I get it wasn't "his fault" and was due to brainwashing.
SN would have been a much better game had they just focused on FMC as clearly the plot mainly revolves around her rather than her brother.
Instead of wasting resources making u play the game twice they should have just stuck MMC levels in with his sister were the plot meant something like finding out who stabbed his father etc.
Most of MMC story felt like bloated filler with the pointless story or levels about his mind controlled ex boyfriend. Other levels just felt totally pointless and did or added nothing.
FMC story made her out to be extremely autistic and at times borderline moronic
The real solution is that they should have told all the chapters at the same time and just switch between characters like DMC5, if you ask me. Kasane's lack of personality does make her seem like she was supposed to be a self insert, though.
Kasane has way more of a personality than Yuito.
She literally has negative personality. She's an autist.
Have you actually played Kasane's route? Her being autistic (as in having trouble cooperating with other people) is a big plot point, and she gradually gets better as the story goes on. She has some actual character development unlike Yuito.
Yes, she goes from being standoffish with no personality to just laid back with no personality.
This basically.
Shes mega autistic at the start and even by the end still has a lot of issues.
Her brother by contrast just felt like a plank of wood with his stupid behaviour and how he did stuff
>unlike Yuito
You are literally displaying the same shit that FE:3H generated in that everyone judges the options they didnt pick off the one route they did play
I did both Kasane and Yuitos route (big fricking mistake, game is not worth it) and both experience a lot of change.
Both Yuito and Kasane are self inserts with very shallow personalities. It's just do you want to play as a girl or a guy? That's all it is. Anything about Kasane being more shallow or Yuito being a plank is pure cope from people not aware of their own bias. But if you are aware of your own bias then more power to you.
You're delusional if you think that Kasane at the start of the game and the end is the same person. Or you just skipped all the cutscenes.
I feel like you can say the same thing about Yuito. I really don't see why everyone is so caught up into which self insert is better, it's just do you want to play as a guy or girl.
Seems like If people dont really want to play as the opposite gender then nothing is really going to force them to. Not even extra plot. Games that do this dont really fully please either preference because one side will always be upset at 'what could have been' if the other wasn't included. most who played as Yuito dont really care for playing as Kasane and vice versa. They end up missing some extra story and their impression of the game is lackluster. Code Vein lets you play as the gender you want and experience the full game so it ends up more enjoyable.
Kasane's story doesn't really have any blind spots while Yuito's is missing a lot of key plot information, like basically all of the time travel scenes and their revelations. It's certainly a weird narrative choice.
I finished code vein, scarlet Nexus was a real slog and I stopped playing after about 4hours or so. honestly would have benefited if there actually was character creation. I could have just ignored the story and just stayed for the combat instead.
At the end K learns shes autistic, stops being as bad as what she was at the start, loses her step sister, her adopted parents treat her like shit and disowned her, found out her real mother fried her own brain to save them both, learns to ask others for help gradually but only after several fricks up at the start, still feels alone at the end and plans to go to the moon for answers.
Y basically goes on about his buddy being brain washed for 40% of the game, is oblivious to the girl wanting his dick, comes from rich family yet complains about it, dad dies and shows almost no emotion vs his brainwashed friend, finds out k is his sister but doesnt seem very emotional about it, chooses to become president of his dads company at the end
You could have talked about how Yuito went from being a naive boy scout to a puppet for a government to his own man, and how he had to overcome that stuff but you don't even mention it. You just shit talk like you haven't even played his route while accusing others of not playing Kasane's route. Simply insincere bias.
>naive boy scout to a puppet for a government to his own man
Hes still naive at the end and still the boy scout he was at the start.
Still treats the girl who wants his dick like shes a ghost and friend zoned her, only became his 'own man' in government because his mother is dead, his dads dead and his brother was going to jail.
He became president by default
See, more insincere bias but this time with not knowing what the word "naive" means. Naive means to lack real world experience, and by the end of it he has experienced even the darkest realities of the world. Naive does not mean to be optimistic.
Shonen tropes isnt really for common audience anymore. Just see Boruto for example. Child soldiers and dead characters = Bad Marketing
I was honestly surprised by Scarlet Nexus. Didn't expect fight to be so fluid and fun also while lot of people shit on Kasane, I played as her and really liked the cute autist. A little too overfocused on her sister but still likeable. Biggest surprise for me last year. Only complain I have is about last parts of game where I had to abuse broken invisibility+multiplication combo for quick guard break or I would spend too much time on each fight due to huge hp pool.
Too bad it won't get sequel, I would totally play one.
I played on PS4 and the slowdowns were insane.
There was also too much rambling about the same subject over and over again.
Well, I played on (then) 6 years old PC with RX480 and HDD and it was running just fine.
>Too bad it won't get sequel, I would totally play one.
The director talked about the sequel a few weeks ago.
https://techraptor.net/gaming/news/scarlet-nexus-director-expresses-will-to-make-sequel-after-tweeting-for-1000-days-about
Even if he doesn't, at least I just hope Namco experiments more new with IPs. SN and CV feel like an oasis in an industry that only makes sequels and prequels. Even if there are things I think SN and CV did wrong, overall I'm glad they released them and I gladly support them both.
Talking about shit and actually getting it are two different things all together
>Too bad it won't get sequel, I would totally play one.
They set up the sequel at the end of the game too with the whole "going to beat up the mooninites" goal that the girl has.
Game doesn't show it but Yuito ends up as disabled in anime (is shown running on wheelchair or rather wheelbed). Pretty cruel I must say.
>try to download the anime
>mostly web rips
>but one 180 GB bluray image rip
damn shame SN seems so unpopular
I'll say that on the PC with a 3080 that there are some slowdowns (like on the main city street), but it does run mostly pretty smooth (and has a really good visual direction overall).
Gamma and Arashi is the best combo. I love being literally fricking invincible.
duplicate with either pyro or electric is a great way to proc status ailments
I wasn't a fan of the electric dude. He's actually so forgettable that I only remember that he has glasses and shoots electricity.
Same with the fire girl actually. All I remember is that she has a crush on the main dude and shoots fire.
Invisibility dude and cloning girl were pretty cool though.
Hanabi at least helps develop Yuito's past. But yeah the electric dude I don't even remember his name. But his buff is really good, and so is Hanabi's buff.
>New items are available in the shop!
Great now I get to spend the next hour buying gifts and watching some drawn out VN scenes as I unlock bond episodes.
probably my only real complaint about the game though, the actual gameplay is great, just wish those VN parts didn't interrupt it so much
I didn't like CV or SN.
I skipped literally every single cutscene. Had a good time with it.
It isn't soulslop, just because of that SC was better than CV. Soulslop and all its conzoomers must die
Wow, you're so cool you don't play popular games, only the semi-popular anime beat em ups.
