It’s a great game, but it is a bad version of RE4. It’s all pretty graphics, and ruined the entire gameplay & feel of the original.
It's a mediocre TPS, and if it didn't have the Resident Evil 4 name attached and game journalists didn't want to get gamer cred by pretending they like the original, it would get the mediocre scores it deserves. The original has better gameplay, better horror (though neither is especially scary), better art direction, better everything. It's just that zoomers can only comprehend a single control scheme so they will never play classic games until companies update them to that control scheme, regardless of whether or not it makes sense for that particular game.

This is something that struck me. I started playing it last week and while I am enjoying it (though nowhere near as much as I did the original) it really is butt ugly which surprised me because REmake 2 looked pretty good.
It's as bad as any other remake, simply extra insulting because I'm sure we all love the actual game a lot lol.
It's objectively a much better video game than the original, but it lacks the soul.

Those player counts will even out within a year, and within 2 years no one will be playing the remake because the audience for it will have moved on to whatever Capcom's newest flavor of the month is at that time.

It's getting the typical inflated paid reviews that lots of games have in recent years. The Batman Arkham games got similar scores and those games are shit.
It is a little bit longer because they added a few filler rooms, which are really bizarre and just feel like blatant padding. The pacing/flow of the remake is awful, where you'll have a high octane action section with some shitty survival horror puzzle the next second that brings the game to a screeching halt. The original had a few puzzles but they were used very sparingly, but the remake tries to insert them all over the place for no fricking reason.

True, and I agree that they butchered the pacing, but Adas DLC alone showed how much they cut out from the original like the cablerailway to the mayor, parts of the castle like the belltower, the underground part before the minecart section or the D2 tongue thing boss with the falling containers

Every criticism of the remake is just met with moronic insults like this. No one in their right mind looked at RE4 and thought "this is ok, but it needs stealth, crafting, RDR2-style movement, and more logic puzzles". The remake does nothing to justify its own existence. There's nothing new it brings to the table that justifies remaking an entire game for. It's just a shitty cash grab with shoehorned in mechanics that are only included because they've become popular in other games recently.

I haven't played 4 for obvious reasons, but 2 was an absolute atrocity. 2 is like gaming's Dawn of the Dead moment. Entirely different, entirely worse and somehow more beloved.
