Pokemon The Movie was the first movie I saw in theaters as a kid and I lived in Minnesota so I was unbelievably excited when they mention it and Vikings (I thought they were refering to the football team)
The early pokemon movies have such a unique tone compared to the rest of the franchise.
I wish we got more pokemon games that matched the writing of the movies.

I think a big part of that has to do with the way the color grading of the movies is much higher quality and conveys a wider range of atmospheres compared to the usual anime
At least for the first 3 movies, Shudo wanted them to have themes that adults could appreciate because they would obviously have to go with their kids to theaters.
