Is WoW classic basically dead? I just recently checked out both Wrath and Classic era, and they both just seem lifeless.

And because there's no trading, gold selling doesn't exist, so bots don't exist, twinks don't exist and nobody can be carried to 60 in any way. Everyone is actually playing the fricking game. It sucks that you can't group or trade at all atm, but all that needs to be done is add limitations to it rather than prohibit it and it'll be perfect

People werent going to play classic era forever, its just not the current fomo thing anymore. You can only run molten core so many times. And we all had major nostalgia goggles for tbc/wotlk, they are only about raidlogging, and were always going to be. Without an influx of new players like there was back in the day, there's just no incentive to do old content. "You think you do, but you dont" wasnt true about classic vanilla, but it was about the xpacs. But blizz was backed into a corner, either they let classic era stagnate, make classic+ (never happening lol), or push forward. It was destined to die the same way retail did.
HC is bringing some attention back to era, and there will probably be a small revival every few years with fresh servers. But it's never going to reach the same peak. Classic was a lightning in a bottle situation.
Pretty much this. I didn't even bother going back for Blizz classic because I already got my fill back on Nostalrius. It was a great time, sure, but once the nostalgia wore off and I got tired of the same old shit at endgame (not to mention how goddamned long everything takes because now I have a job) I was tapped. Same with Wrath, played many private servers beforehand.

do you have a source for that? Last I saw, vanilla had the peak playerbase of classic, with spikes at the two expansion launch dates, but dropping off and remaining largely stagnant during the actual xpac. I'm willing to admit i'm wrong but gonna need to see some data.

The biggest issue with it is that it doesn't solve the problem of gold selling (which is the issue just mentioned above), it simply monopolizes it.
You're trading real world money for in game currency that can buy you instance runs, gear, mounts, etc.
My point is more that gold seems to be worthless and getting endgame is so piss easy that you'd be investing a massive amount of money to buy something nobody gives a shit about.
Most players I know have been sitting on massive piles of gold long before tokens came out despite not buying gold themselves.

Wrath is definitely dead. Literally nobody gives a frick about ToC/GC, and even Ulduar lost its charm pretty early. Only question is where will Blizzard go from here? Cata or something else? Either way they're gonna frick it up.

Everyone is waiting to play official hardcore Vanilla servers. The limitations set by the addon hc community are fricking stupid because it's hard enough to get to 60 without dying. I got a hunter to about lvl 14, then Activision announced they would do official hardcore servers. Tons of people dropped the stupid addon hc mode to wait for an actual fun hardcore mode where you can actually enjoy the game with the simple rule that you cannot rez.
Taming Mangeclaw with a sliver of health on hc was quite thrilling. There is a big community that wants FRESH and official hardcore servers have a lot of people chomping at the bit to start again.

I played the frick out of classic. I got bored and quit after fully gearing in T1 TBC. It was lightning in a bottle and I’m so glad I was a part of it.
I hope classic vanilla still exists in 5 or so years or some good pservers because I’m fully burned out of WoW/mmo’s now. Did the whole Nost to Light hope or whatever pservers. Played nearly entire duration of vanilla etc. I love the game, my favourite game of all time. But I need a few years to rekindle the desire.

Classic gays have always been a small group. The simple fact of the matter is everyone involved liked the idea of being able to play old expansions, but don't really want to play old expansions. Actives plummeted after 2 weeks.

Get the breadcrumb quest that tells you where the camp with a bunch more quests is. It's like, less than 5% of quests that don't have a clear path to send you to them. Because they are optional third party addons that were not released with the game. Most people have levelled 30 times to cap. The average classic player isn’t a moron who can’t find quests at lvl 40 and quits.

legion did a lot right, mainly content-wise, but it also introduced or ramped up some of the absolute worst systems. the real lesson blizzard should have learned from legion is that giving each class and spec a lot of unique content is fun, not that AP needed to be carried forward two expansions or that endless systems are a good idea in general.
for my money, my favorite expansion was probably mists. the only problems i had with it were pandaren, warforging being introduced, and the slow start the expansion had. everything else was great, although timeless isle was lightning in a bottle and blizzard spent several expansions trying and failing to replicate what made it fun.

Classic vanilla was basically a new private server. Same experience I got on lights hope or nost, without the threat of losing my characters spontaneously.
TBC and Wrath have largely been disappointing. TBC was the most boring raiding I’ve had to endure, and Wrath is the most coddled raiding with blizzard holding the hands of the playerbase with increased ilvls, class buffs, and ignored bug behavior. Imagine your tanks dodging twice as often as they should and dks machine gunning bosses at 14k dps for half a year before you acknowledge it. Dogshit company.
